Red Dwarf

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Having just watched all of Season 1 on DVD just the last two days. I have to say I am quite impressed by some of the thougtfulness that went into making Red Dwarf. The episode Future Echoes had some terrific planning to keep track of the future and present interaction. That scene with Lister trying to talk to Rimmer who was talking to a no one, then the whole circumstance repeats ... absolutely well done! One of the best discourses in the entire series!

The Me2 episode was also pretty well done, but I was surprised mainly at how fluidly they made the two Rimmers work together. They jumped and paused and talked as normally and naturally as we would to anyone else. It is funny thought that a simple little edit in the Screening Room made it appear the wrong Rimmer was deleted. But who cares, the scene flowed better without that extra seat jump I saw in the deleted scenes.

The only real low point in the 1st series is that stupid "Returning of Cloister" to the cat who lost his faith. It was poorly acted and a bit too preachy. But the garbage pod was the highlight of that episode.

I'll have more comments when I finish Series 2 again. I'm gearing up for the release of the DVDs of Series 3&4 in February.

@Arcon, after just noticing it for the first time.

Wow! That was a roundabout compliment, thanks Arcon.

the url i put in the earlier post contains all the info ive got as for a dl of it i only just found out it existed

I've known it has existed for some time, I use to be a frequent poster on the usenet forums for Red Dwarf and there were some who had found places to download the American shows of Red Dwarf. At the time I didn't have enough space on my HD to get it so I didn't bother, but now I wish I'd at least kept the link.

Anyway, it is available and unlike the Brit version, Kryten is on board from the very beginning, which is bad in the sense you then never get to see the Kryten episode. However, since the show didn't last anyway, that doesn't really much matter. Still it was poor thinking on their part.

I saw a couple of Red Dwarf shows, but never got into it. Then again, I missed the beginning and didn't know what the aitch was going on. I've since been told the story line and might give it a try again some day.

Speaking of nutty sci-fi, I presume everyone has seen Blackadder Back and Forth, with Baldrick's wooden time machine ... that works! Who needs a tardis anyway.

Muahahahahahahahahaha! 3 is already out, I got it for christmas. I love this show and will be accumulating the DVD's for various presents although I'm going to have to ask my parents to get me series 4 instead of Easter Eggs this year!BBC2 has been showing reruns aswell, I'm not sure where they started, I only realised about 3 weeks ago but they've been showing one episode everynight since then. It's episode 6 series 6 tonight (at the very early time of 11:00! [or is it 11:30..., it's usually been on at around 1am) but unfortunately it stops there, they're not doing 7 and 8 for the moment.

One of my favourite episodes is Queeg when Holly is 'banished' The number and lengths of the laughes he get's at the end from the audience is testament to the genius of this episode

When I finally get seasons 3&4, pretty soon, I'll see all of 3 for the first time ever. Unlike you Brits, I have not been so lucky to get consistant programming of Red Dwarf at any time here.

BTW, the first episode I ever saw years ago was "sdrawkcaB" on public broadcasting. Despite laughing myself silly I didn't see any Red Dwarf for another 5 years, but never forgot it. When I finally did see it again, I was actually taken aback by how limited my memory of it was. I didn't remember any of the main characters being black and I didn't remember Kryten whatsoever. At first upon seeing the show again, I thought they had added a new crew. But it was only the fact I just couldn't remember seeing one show 5 years ago at a young age.

The same thing happened with me and Star Wars. I never remembered Harrison Ford playing Han Solo, but I remembered the movies quite well. It wasn't until later when I knew who he was and saw the movies again that I linked the two in my brain.

You have to keep rubbing it in, don't you SS? You bastard!

What did everyone think of the "latest" (at least here is Aus) episodes? You know, the ones in which RD is recreated by the nanobots along with Rimmer and the Captain, etc? I have only seen a few episodes, but they seem pretty good.

Rub, rub. Seriously though, when does the series come out down under?

I have no idea. RD is played on the ABC, and they are rather sporadic in their releases of the new episodes. I'll probably see some new episodes when the rating season kicks back in sometime after Feb. Dang!

Aren't they out on DVD? That's to what I was referring when I say I'm finally going to see 3 in its entirety for the first time.

Have got 1,2 and 3 on DVD, and been watching it ove Chrimbo on BBC2 in the British Isles. It is my favourite sitcom in the world ever.....

I want to know one thing... Why Americans almost always INSIST on remaking British sitcoms, when the british just re-run American ones. Do we understand more jokes than our American cousins, or do you insist on trying to take the credit for Brit genius?

Just run our versions, surely someone out there finds them funny - THEY'RE hilarious (incidentally, so are Friends, Cheers and Frasier, so I'm not a complete anti-American)
