Red Dwarf

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I'm not saying I like anything with cheap laughs and I'm not saying I only like cheap laughs, I like a mixture, infact more often than not I dislike them. Sometimes cheap laughs can be done in a very crass or unamusing way but I think RD strikes a nice balance.

Like the thing with the cat in Backwards at the end. It is obvious what happened but they don't spell it out for you, it's the expression and the walk that tells you what happened (if you hadn't already guessed) and that's what I laugh at.

True Zone, and if it is well done sic. Simpsons, then it's ok, but sometimes I just get sick of it. A lot of modern comedy is based on cheap laughs in my opinion. Oh well, what can you do? Stop watching, I guess.

I'd go as far to say that some modern comedy isnt based on laughs at all. I hear there's a prize for anyone who can spot a joke in Friends. it's unclaimed so far. well apart from the acting which is a joke. or is that a tragedy? who cares, it's tot-cr*p anyway.

@Duriel, are you sure they're going to make the movie? They've been saying that for years. They even had script readings and storyboards, but to no avail, because those were at least from 3 years before.

What's this about an RD movie? Do you have a link from an official source for us?

Post Sat Jan 17, 2004 9:48 pm

@Esq The Official Red Dwarf Website, just look under movie news or movie deck, something like that.

BTW, Amazon.com isn't allowing me to checkout so I can't preorder Red Dwarf seasons 3&4.

Thanks, SS. Mmm, I wish they would provide some plot information. Oh well, maybe in time. I just hope the film doesn't become one of those "straight-to-video" affairs. That would be unfortunate.

Another Australian! What's that now, 9?

I just read the updated news on the Official site and saw the most recent news (after a year of not having anything) for the movie. Apparently the producers are looking for stages to shoot the film in. At the moment they're looking at Australia's sound stages. But this doesn't still give me much hope.

Why doesn't it give me hope? I have worked for 20th Century Fox and they invited me to their studio to have a personal tour. Before I went, the first thing I did was get all the information I could about the place and what I came across were rental prices for each stage they have.

A stage is a stage, you don't need to go to Australia to see them. You look at how much it will cost per day, figure out your construction time, your filming time, your deconstruction time and the cost of transporting necessary people and equipment to and from the stage whether it be Shepperton down the block or Fox Studios Australia on that big island next to New Zealand (when was there an Old Zealand or just a Zealand?). You look at numbers and costs.

The news feature of a producer going to visit a stage sounds like them trying to maintain some amount of emotional fervor in the fans so they don't forget about Red Dwarf or the fact they keep wanting to make a film. Maybe I'm just cynical.

I wonder why they are filming in Australia? Mmm, maybe it's for the ambience, nah, it's the BEER! Seriously, because the Australian dollar is so high, it is less economical to produce films here in Aus, so I'm curious as to why they chose to film here.
