Red Dwarf

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I am a little worried that the film may not capture the humour and the spirit of the series, however if the movie is done well, it will attract a whole new audience. Still, I am also a little dubious at to whether or not they will go through with the film. I don't see it as a terribly good idea, because I feel that they maybe running out of ideas and thus, the film will be poor.

So much would depend on where they took it from, i.e. which point in time? Would they carry on from where the last series finished, would it start at a point somewhere in the middle or not be connected to a particular series at all, just a stand alone with the same characters.

True. I presume that they would set it after the latest episode in the series. That way, there would be a sense of continuity for fans.

Also, it can't really happen before the start of the series', that just wouldn't work, a stand alone would probably be the easiest to write but would be the least satisfying for fans, writing it into the middle would be tricky as they're all sort of linked already anyway. Is suppose you could have one involving the rescuing of Kryten from the asteroid - inbetween 2 and 3. At the end would be the easiest to write for fan satisfaction, the trouble with all of these, as already mentioned, is satisfying the fans :p

Why thank you (takes opourtunity to go OFF topic )

Most of it's on topic, even if it did stray from time to time. At least we always got back on topic.

its even more suprising since it's in the 'off-topic' forum

yeh i agree about making a red dwarf movie, it could just end up as a long drawn out tv programme

Thanks Arcon *steals credit from everyone else*, I appreciate that . It is interesting because this is the most popular thread that I have created, when I expected it to be one of the least popular.

I wonder whether or not they will set the movie in the original scenario; you know, have some adventures with Lister, Rimmer (as a Hologram), Holly, and Kryten. That way, they can keep the formula that has worked so well, and not contaminate the latest seasons.

I suppose when they set it might depend on who was available for acting too. You can't have Hilly-Holly appearing before the end of series 2 for example.

Danny John Jules now does kiddies progs in the UK - how sad, he's in storymakers (I'm a student, that is how I know)

Now, an RD movie,I know on e had been in the piopeline for about 10 years, I also knew they were filming in OZ. I was, however, under the impression that it was in post-production stages.

Incidentally, any sightings of the cast in TV and film could be interesting, like the Blade 2, Tomb Raider and Doctors (Craig Charles played a cop) could be intriguing.

The question is; would it be wise to make a movie? If the film isn't terribly good and/or recycles the same old plot elements, it could alienate the current fans and spell and end to the series. A pessimistic appraisal, but a possible one.

Spell an end to the series? What, you reckon they might make more or do you mean it would mean people would not want to watch the earlier series anymore?

I mean that the film may not be popular, and will thus convince the creators not to make another season as they will assume that the popularity of the show has dropped.

It's been a few years since the last series and they were coming out once every 2 years or so before then... much though it pains me to say this, I'd say they'd probably stopped anyway.

Mmm, you may have a point. As I said, I think that they may be running out of ideas anyway.
