For some reason the pics. don't show for me .

When i scroll down to the second page it says "could not find the ColourSpace named 'CSO' " then it says "This file contains information not understood by the viewer. Suppress futher errors?"

Can someone plz help, it looks like a really good tutorial but i don't know if i'm doing the things right cuz i can't see the pics.

if your getting a dll error from windows then you want to try to update your direct X, restart your computer, then if it still doesnt work reinstall freelancer...

and if your getting adobe reader errors you need to make sure you have the most recent adobe reader and or that the downloaded tutorial isnt corrupt. ANYTHING can corrupt a file, try updating the reader and redownloading the tutorial.

And on a side note... GOOD NEWS, I've finally gotten my MS3D problem taken care of, so I am now able to start checking out these wonderful new tools. ALSO, I have finally taken the risk and registered my copy of acrobat so I no longer have ANY hitches or hicups (at least that i know of) that will sto me from updating my tutorial.
cheers

ok, i've got a really odd problem that i can't seem to fix.

ship functions ok, all the hardpoints work, it's buyable.

when i load the game, my textures act like they are gone. the basic color of the texture is still applied to the model though. ( ex: light gray grille material just becomes a solid light gray shading).

i've tried using the .mat file exporter i've found here for ms3d, and building one myself with the UTF editor. at this point, i'm clueless. any ideas?

Thanks for the tutorial.
Only one part I don't get. When texturing you say to divide the ship into groups. The only way I could figure to do that was to duplicate sections. But when I do this I don't get anything assigned. Could you go into more detail about dividing the ship into groups, please?
Also how do you "vertically flip" your textures.
O.K. so two things I don't get, but their both in the same area.
And, are you talking about the lower right picture of the ship when you say turn it 180 then 180?
O.K three things.
Thanks again.

no i dont mean duplicating ship parts... what i mean is like selecting your wings and then "regroup"ing them as wings, and selecting your tailfin and regrouping that as tailfin... what im saying is call the different parts of the ship as they are if its a wheel call it a wheel dont call it torus01.
Flipping the textures vertically can be done with pic2pic. I use pic2pic because all graphics i do are JPGs and it allows me to select every texture I've made at one time and convert them all AND automatically flip them at one time. But in like paintshop pro you'd find the option in one of the menu's.

if you know what view is your FRONT view then i want you to use the front view for rotating your ship.

Thanks for the answer I think I've got it now.
Do you know if there is anyway to be specific when selecting your groupings. What I mean is that when I try to select more than one face I end up also selecting facings on the other side of the ship even though I've got ignore backfacing selected and the program(milkshape) won't allow you to ctrl-click.
So how do you get say, just the wing top selected?

while that is annoying the way i do it is i hide everything but what im trying to work with and even that is tedious most of the time but once you get the area you want to work on isolated things become alot easier... and no they dont allow the ctrl-click but the shift-click... dont ask why.

I have two questions:

1. How to make destroyable bits on your fighter?

2. What are the differences between making fighters, capships and stations?

Post Wed Mar 10, 2004 7:02 am

Im sorry but i have no idea what-so-ever about how to make detsructible ship parts.

and the differences in the classes of ships are well... THE SIZE, the number of turrets and the general concept... like would a battleship have 15 million guns and only one turret? or would it have really HUGE wings? not normally. so what do you use to determin what size is appropriate? Guess and check. thats all. unless someone out there has a fool proof way, thats the only way because your ship is going to be allot bigger than what ms3d can view. and unless you are able to establish a sizing block or something like that that would be the normal size of the defender... your not gonna be able to tell just how HUGE your ship is getting.

hope i cleared some stuff up.

After many crashes and many changes I got my first ship up in space. It's white, won't move except with thruster, has sparks floating out of the shield generator and the weapons all point through the ship and float off the ship into space when I go into turret view and circle.
You've already covered the part about ship being white, and the lack of movement is probably I can fix in my inis but anyone have any ideas about why my shield generator would be constantly sparking or why my weapons would float around in space?
Not that I'm too worried I'm still just stoked that I managed to get the thing flying. Thanks for the great tutorial and all the help.

Edit: Now that I've got my engine fixed I can see the sparks are actually coming from my thruster. Any ideas?

nope no ideas bout sparkie. Never heard of that problem... less you have linked to a damaged thruster in one of the equip inis... i think they have those for the cinematics... i remember sein them... but i doubt thats what the problem is.

Note to all: I am moving to a new residence and my ISP is not available there... so until Me and my wife have gotten things under control I will not be able to accept files from anyone and I wont be able to upload the new, reformatted, revamped tutorial untill I can get ahold of a High-speed conection again. Now just because i may not be here doesnt mean that you wont get answers to your questions... there are plenty of knowledgable people here.

Wish us luck with the move and getting a connection again... This is not goodbye but a "we'll be back soon so dont change the channle"

Well it`s been a hellish 2 months... and i`m still having trouble; however, i wouldn`t even do anyting if there was no tutorial, not to mention a tutorial so splendid as DRIZZt`s... Once again man, thanx a million !
The problem i`m having vith my model, which is based on Dagger`s design (LF/has 4 guns & 1 turret/available at Buffalo), is that every time i go to purchase it, the ship is completely invisible (but i checked LOD ranges, and tried it both with 0, 2000 and Dagger`s default values, and it doesen`t do anything), the performance of computer slows down, and when i actually try to buy the ship, game finnaly crashes to Windows, leaving me with error report message. Now, i can`t say i followed tutorial strictly (but please, don`t kill me yet) `cause all my models were finished in 3Dmax and i`ve imported them to Milkshape as .3DS and NOT as .cmp, and since i made the ship really huge i only did a x3 scaling instead of x50, but still i don`t know what else could be wrong here - if you have any ideas about this please let me know. The model was originally done as a group of 3 solids (one for exaust, one for cockpit and one for entire hull&wings) in AutoCad 2000, and then i imported it to 3DSmax, where it was textured and saved in .3DS format.
