Anyone heard about mythica?

Based on a careful evaluation of the competitive MMORPG landscape, Microsoft Game Studios has decided to cancel the Windows-based game “Mythica.” As a result of this effort, job eliminations within Microsoft Game Studios will take place, and up to 40 employees may be impacted.

Adam Waalkes, studio manager at Microsoft Game Studios, stated:

Our goal with ‘Mythica’ was to create a truly innovative massively multiplayer online role playing game. While the game looked ready to deliver advancements to the genre, after careful evaluation of the MMORPG landscape, MGS has decided to stream-line its portfolio, making fewer investments in this genre. After a rigorous review of current and future projects, the decision was made that Mythica would not be one of the projects we would continue to invest in.

We truly appreciate all the support ‘Mythica’ has received from its fans and the games community.

Any relation to us? Hard to say. Maybe Ms is re-thinking their strategy on gaming market. Maybe this is one of the reasons FLO didnt came out. again alots of maybes.
Its not an optimistic news for us, FL Fans.

I'm very convinced that DA is doing just fine, and going strong forward... So there is no need to worry.

We hope so, Bargib. We hope so.

Ohhh! Beu-tiful! Preeety! How do I blow it up?

Hey Bargib:

DA very much still exists... I have hard evidence on the fact, since I'm still at times in social contact with Jörg, Phil and the rest of the guys...

Ever tell em thanks for making the game from us all yet? - if not, please pass it on from me at least - cause this game has kept me going MONTHS AND MONTHS after all my other ones hit the wall of boredom (usually around 1 month mark, but 10 months later am still playing this )

They should be thanking you guys for playing this game for so long and enjoying every bit of it and making all these awesome mods.

Ya, like I've said before the guys from Digital Anvil have been know to peruse these forums from time to time and they are amazed at some of the talent that comes here to make these great mods. They probably get concerned every now and then when a mod makers goes over the edge and make an unstable mod, BUT everyone lives and learns and they realize if it was easy everyone would do it.

4 millions+ hits here since the game hit retail speaks volumes folks!

I haven't posted here before. So Hi Everybody! Going WAAAYY back I kept tabs on Chris Roberts when he announced SL and FL. I am very happy with it. There's 3 friends that don't play games, but they love FL! That should speak volumes. I don't like to multiplayer though, it's way too jumpy and there could be a fight going and I can't see it. I reach a nav point and but I'm getting told I'm no where near it and to get back to it... Single player I love!

That aside, is there any reason to keep up hope for an expansion or a FL2??? The story is awesome and I'd love to see what ideas DA may have to continue it. Or would it be better to put more faith in Origin/EA to pickup the priavteer series again.

Or should go and try my hand at Jumpgate?

Any word?

(Yes there's a little sarcastic humour in this post

Thanks.

I have read on German fansites that FreeLancer 2 is slated for an April release or something. Does anybody know what the source of these rumours are? Thats amazing news.. I hope they give us something tangible to chew on

Post Thu Mar 11, 2004 12:21 pm

Assuming you mean April next year, then that might fit an expansion pack release...but there's no way they're going to release a full FL sequal only 2 years after the first one.

The BEST we can expect is for them to have something working to show off at E3 in May next year. Other than that, it's just unrealistic as there has been NO official word yet about whether they're even making it or not.

And finally, to those looking in the "coming soon" lists, don't waste your time, you are NOT going to find anything. I mean until MS come out and say "hey, we're making another FL game", then for all intents and purposes, it does not exsist. And until we hear an official announcement, any info or release dates you see are most likely fabrications.

The lcxxovita guy is correct. If you go on a search in google for freelancer two it comes up with sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
much stuff but the petito problemo is that it is all german and there is nothing official

Listen here, I came upon FL like one runs up on a $20 bill in the street. What a great surprise. I watched my friend try FL and I thought, how the hell do you fly a spaceship with a mouse? The game looked so damn good and you can't play with a joystick. I said F*** it, I'm don't give a crap about this game. Then I got board and tried it. That was back in May 2003. I played Fl completely ignorant of the support it had let alone how it was being modified. I played the game all the way through the story and kept playing looking for the story to continue so how. I had only explored mabey %60 percent of the game and gave up. Came back to it 4 months later and found all in the original FL universe and was surprise that the story never picked up again.

It was great to explore find all in the entire game but i wanted more. I also wanted questions answered. That is when i found this site and it opened up a whole new universe. What fun. Ye haw. A lot makes sense now reading the posting in this forum how such a weak story or incomplete story this was. Mabey this was a half-assed attemp to meet a deadline but it would a shame not to make something of a sequel for such a great game engine. By the way it took like 3 minutes to get used to the mouse flight and I find it superior now.

With all the hard work out there to make all these mods I wish someone could bring all the best together for a grand sequel with more story. That is one thing i've noticed is that with all the mods out there no one has added to the story just added to everything else. I don't know what it takes for such things, I'm just a plumber in the states who enjoys good distactions. But i appriciate all the hard work to make this great game more fun and I'll keep playing. All you modders may be the only ones who will come close to making a sequel. If there is no profit from a sequel MS won't do anything. Thx All.

Freelancer's not clocked up significant sales, so MS aren't too likely to be interested in making a sequel

@Darktone

Yeah sure... I just saw a cow flew by my car this morning. *Snicker.

Of course you're a professor in statistic, that's how you know that Freelancer did not sell well.

For a game that's this old, still generating this much discussion through this board, was on the best seller list for 2 straight months, better than even homeworld 2. Translated into many different languages. And yet... You waltz in here and post "Freelancer did not sell well, therefore there won't be a sequel".

Are you really that ignorant?

Post Fri Mar 12, 2004 10:12 am

There was something in a topic here about it. I think it was less that it didn't sell well and more about simply not meeting expectations

Darkstone stop being the raincloud of the radio waves, there will be a sequel as it was voted one of the best games of 2003 by PC gamer it came somewhere like fourth.
