Hello guys and girls!

It has been a long time since i last posted, but ive checked back here to see how the FL2 / SL2 threads were going along, and what evidence to support the sequels.

Judging from all the mod downloads on the servers and how the community is pitching in to keep FL alive I personally believe that the future of FL lies in future mods. Although the Freelancer Fire in my had long since died out. I do hold on to hope that a sequel or expansion (with content of a sequel) will arrive.
I agree with stinger though, it will be a long wait.

There are a lot of rumours on a FL sequel, but I'm sure DA will not announce ANYTHING before they are quite sure they have a release date they can keep! Anybody remember how FL did in this department?!?!?

don't ever mention that *grumbles* got delayed by a year or so if memory serves... da they wrote the book on cocking up release dates, almost as bad as duke nukem forever, which seems to be taking, forever, ah well

Would I love to see a Freelancer sequel? Absolutely.

Do I think there is going to be one? No.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic or anything, but I personally feel that there will be no official sequel to Freelancer. I agree with whoever it was that said the future of Freelancer lies in the mods. There is an obvious community fan base for this game that will continue to add and improve upon it with mods and ships and what-not.

I could be wrong. Hopefully I am. But I would bet real money that we will never see Freelancer 2.

Hello Folks!

Before stating that I work for Microsoft, allow me to also disclaim having any connection with the Freelancer project or the Acquisition of Digital Anvil. As an old techie however, if you place www.digitalanvil.com into your browser you are redirected to the Microsoft game aspx. So, I would have to gather from that, that MS has indeed bought DA. But, that's not a bad thing; MS has oodles of money and is probably in a better place than DA regarding resources to make a sequel... which I hope it does.

As for it's lack of popularity, I think this is largely because of the lack of publicity this game got. Marketing is everything and MS is great at marketing! If there is a FL2, you better believe we'll hear about it in advance. Though, games do come out throughout the year, many wait to release in October or November to take advantage of the seasonal buying trends.

However, for the record I haven't heard anything. But, that isn't a surprise even for an MS guy like me. There are tens of thousands of people working for this corporation and the departments are sometimes like their own little city-states. This autonomy helps to generate a more creative edge in an otherwise enormous company culture.

But didn't MS rush DA to finish FL prematurley? (apologies if i am incorrect) Almost certainly I think they wanted a sequel, I mean, we have to kick the Nomads in the butt reall hard right?

Adnrew, can you spy for us? I mean i will pay you for any inforamtion, in FL dollar of course. How much you want?

Seriously, MS indeed great at markting but there is something i learn also about you people: MS wont invest unless they see real outcome out of this project both strategic and by income. Their strategy is taking a grip over everything, sort of domination in particlular field. So the question is whether they see anything in our little(or not so little) community of space flyers? Do they think it will promote them one step closer or make them great income?

By acquiring DA they stated: yes we think there is future here.


If i had to bet on FL2 i'd say there will never be samething as we know, there should be expantion pack already as easy money for then but they didnt released it why? Maybe becouse FL failed in practice. So if they were doing anything now it will probably be FLO (online version).

Bugs and stuff.
Making sure that leveling up works the way it should even whit the serverpatch installed. probably taking out the race and completing the unknowns and some of the omicrons. and making NPC's a bit harder to fight.
to name a few.

patch?, better cheat protection, especialy the thruster mod cheat would be cool, but i aint gunna hold my breath waiting for M$`s "official support".. so i guess its 3rd party server and anti cheat s/ware

I would have to confirm it again but according to the last time I did research on DA they were disbanded shortly after Freelancer was released. That is why the 1.1 patch came from Microsoft not the DA team. I hope I'm wrong.

The reason i dislike Microsoft for games, is they dont like mods or people modding thier games, look at mechwarrior 4, the only thing moddable is adding new skins. I fear they might make Freelancer 2 the same way which would be devestating

If they make a FL2 more complete than FL was, then I don't care about the modability. For that we have this one.

Ok. Some of you have said MS is great at marketing products.. MS didn't market FreeLancer one measly bit. They wanted to put it on XBOX as well right, but I haven't heard anything about that project either.

FL was their red headed step child that nobody loves.

and DA died. The founder of WC is probably retired and just wants to enjoy his millions left from the WC era.

I loved FL for the first few weeks I had it, but it could have been so much more. They should have focused on a more believable experience.. IE moving jumpgates to the poles of the solarsystem to provide parallel lanes that dont converge, thus providing access to every solar in the system without converging. That was my biggest beef with the game. Secondly, the edge of the sirius sector seems so desolate and unfinished. Maybe they wanted it that way.. but it seems like a few systems were just half assed and thrown together to give us something to do.

I think we were lucky to have FL at all. Were lucky that its moddable. They only released FL because they said they would.. and not dare to alienate some of their precious customers in this area.

nah, the reason they continued it was because it had been in development for 5 years, and they wanted to seel it seeing it was nearly finished

The hopes for an FL sequel are probably not near as good as one for Wing Commander {WC}. The fan base for WC has generally been strong ever since the DL add-on for Prophecy was last made officially available. Ever since the rumors of Privateer on-line was bandied about. There are some MODs out there being worked on but breaking the source code by these dedicated fans has been daunting. At least FL is more easily MODable. At least FL is expanded by MODders which has brought to it much of have what MS left out &/or FUBAB.

So, hold not thy breath for either a FL &/or WC game, add-on or expansion. Sad as it is and much as we want not to admit we must that their demise is right and well sealed.

It is hard to soar with eagles when you fly with turkeys.
