Has anyone managed to contact Digital anvil about a sequel t

@ lvxoccvlta

Wait just a second now. Your facts are a bit off.

MS didn't market FreeLancer one measly bit.
wrong , dead wrong. I saw advertisements on Tech TV, Every gaming store in the world had posters out and several gaming magazines had Freelancer featured. Maximum PC was a distributor of the demo. That's far from "measley."

They wanted to put it on XBOX as well right, but I haven't heard anything about that project either.

completely unsubstanciated this rumor was just that, a rumor and there is nothing on the horizon. Too many people have their fingers in the right places for this to come about without someone knowing about it.

and DA died.
Where do you get you info, I'd love to know.

The founder of WC is probably retired and just wants to enjoy his millions left from the WC era.
Well, that would be Chris Robert and he's far retired. This is a laughable statement... See Here

So you want to rant, that's fine. But get the facts right and you'll be credible.

I think FL was originally slated for an earlier release, and DA very much still exists... I have hard evidence on the fact, since I'm still at times in social contact with Jörg, Phil and the rest of the guys...

Hmmm.....I didn't see FL advertised at all, in fact the only way i found out it existed was from Amazon, in their "If you liked that, you might also like this..." link. After reading their review, i then scoured the 'net for all other references and reviews. It wasn't until FL had been out for OVER 6 MONTHS that my local Virgin store FINALLY put up a poster...and then they didn't even have a copy of the game in stock!

This might seem a stupid idea, but how about a petition? If Microsoft know there are a lot of dedicated players out there champing at the bit for a sequel, they might consider it a bit more...How hard can it be for TLR forum members to sign a petition, I wonder? They would need to know there is interest before they invested in a sequel......................

jus my 2p's worth...

I nod to the above post. Freelancer wasn't really hyped up at all, at least not where I lived (now living in Germany, was formerly near D.C.)

Furthermore, if Digital Anvil wants ANY kind of presence, it would be wise if they had an updated webpage and a PR team that posted regular news and updates on current projects. But that doesn't exist.. at least not anymore since DA made the move to microsoft.

Thus indicating to me, that DA is a defunct company. Sure they might be working around, still, but how are we to know? Most of us dont have personal contacts to anyone on the team. Are we not elite enough? heh

I don't want to sound impatient or anything, but it is hard to keep faith alive in a vision that was DA.. which now seems to be balancing on the brink of death.

And trying to avoid any mention of competiting games, but will mention it in passing anyway, the other *flavor* of space exploration game produced in Australia has a web presence... and is actively communicating with its fans.

Microsoft on the other hand, as mentioned above, had to release the server patch, not under the guise of DA.. why? That sent up red flags.

Who do you think you are? you buy FL and you suddenly think that they owe you something and should socialize and invite you to family dinner? personal contacts don't go like that, you know. They make a game and you buy or not buy it. No gun to temple, no further strings attached.

Fear factor, I invite you to read the entire thread, including Stinger's reply first before opening that mouth (edit: yours).

Stinger said that he is in contact with some names at DA, thus telling us DA is alive and not dead.. this was in response to (my previous claim) claiming DA was dead.

I said that (paraphrased for your literacy level), "We dont have contacts at DA to know if they are alive or not," while at the same time pointing out that their website lacks communication to its fans. This lack of communication on behalf of DAs re-affirms my original argument that either DA died, but also introduces a second point, namely, "there is no way of the average fan knowing what the hell is up with this company, since the average fan DOES NOT HAVE CONTACT WITH DA (like Stinger.)"

To restate my point again: read the thread first

I dont know why the hell you posted a reply, but from what I gather, it was an attack, and that is not very becoming of an admin.

edit: and I bought the game on the assumption that the Freelancer box was telling the truth. Did you even read the text on the box?

edit: haha

It was not an attack, more of in defense of DA. I just couldn't comprehend why lack of 'personal contacts' with fans warranted your "elitist DA" slur.

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 11:24 am

then you had missed the point of my post. Of course it is rediculous for fans to expect personal contacts at DA. That was just my way of using polemics to make a point.

Anyway. Once I can go to DIGITALANVIL.COM and read weekly updates on their projects, or participate in an online BBS of some kind, I will be happy. but until then, I am disappointed that such a great idea has been swept under the carpet.. and projects disbanded.

hm

I see. Fair enough. But I would not worry too much about it. FL did not exactly give out much buzz during development (but as Stinger pointed out, it had ample marketing). It could go either way.

Yeah you're right, I give heheh. Its still too bad though

DIGITAL ANVIL, COME BACK TO US. SHOW US SIGNS OF LIFE PLz

Well People, I have checked official release-dates upto the end of 2005 and there is no mention of a FL2 anywhere.
Not even in secured press-releases.

ADVICE:
Fingers crossed or start a campaign on the internet.

maybe we could make a petition?

Mef.

Luckily we have a bunch of insanely smart modders.

I have been most impressed with FlRebalance, Free Worlds, and TNG mod. I am utterly dying to see what comes about with the Privateer conversion!

Maybe we can create our own sequel if we can get an official "NO" from Microsoft.. at least that would settle the anticipation.

Maybe this release statemething thing you saw WAS the official "no"
