MP Acct ID Gen w/Windows ME Failed! DA we need some help he

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Stinger if you took that as a flame you should get some thicker skin, there is much worse out there. I did not intend it as one nor did I insult you in anyway. I am suggesting it is a problem with the 9x kernel this doesn't mean it is a winME only problem and there is no way they could've tested every possible combination of everything in beta. It's just NOT possible. Nobody is against you, everyone wants a resolution I am simply stating your fixes are skirting the issue and won't truly fix the problem. I will leave it at this and when a patch or fix is released we shall see what the problem was. If I am wrong, so what then I'm wrong, I think you are taking this way to personally. Your argument of it being tested is a moot point, what software DOESN'T have bugs? All software is tested to be compatible it doesn't mean the software is perfect.

Thanks for the useless info stinger.

It wouldn't be such a trivial matter if you were the person that didn't have his Multiplayer Account ID generated.

Maybe you should read the entire thread, and other threads regarding the same issue, before you go tearing into a thread on your crusade to help the "less fortunate".

As a mod, you are definately a wonderful example for all of us little people. I want to be just as arrogant as you when I grow up!

Have some compassion and go do something useful.

tried creating a user account and reset the registry to firstrun 0.
No love.
Ah well.
Back to single player.
The one thing that sucks is when I finally can play MP, I'm going to running around in a junkheap while the rest of the world is in Stilletos.

Doesn't anyone reading this have a sense of humor? Jeez people. back the truck up off my be-hind will ya? And I don't see anyone with any numbers in your hands so you're just going to have to back to the end of the line please.

If you think I'm arrogant, you haven't met enough people in your life yet. There's real pros out there, I'm not even worthy of having my name spoken in the same breath as some of them...but I appreciated the gesture, really.

Notice the smiley faces with a wink...for all those who do not know internet lingo, that means I'm kidding.

Maybe I should rename this thread to something more appropriate and on topic like...
"Hey, let all rip into someone that is actually trying to help"

At least then it would actualy be "on topic."

I find nothing humorous about your dry sarcasm regarding ME not being beta tested. It is amazing how once a game is published it is always perfect, ready for play and never requires patching. I'm glad we live in a world where games are released when they are finished and have been properly tested.

I'll say it again, you wouldn't have such a "who cares" attitude if it was your game that wasn't working properly. You, too, would hate having to scroll through thread after thread after thread, and having to read wonderfully insightful posts, like yours, that are totally off key.

I applaud your efforts, but they are going in the wrong direction. And when somebody points that out, you don't need to get defensive, you don't need to get sarcastic. Maybe you should just let it go, and get on the same page as the rest of us.

As a moderator I believe it is your responsiblity to read through the threads. I figured that you had read most of the threads on this topic and would have something useful to contribute. Or perhaps a link to a thread with more information on it.

When someobody tries to offer you insite to the problem and you blow them off with sarcasm, do you expect people to laugh and think you're cool?

You really impressed me, let me tell you.

I guess I'm just still in shock when people ask for advice, receive some offer for help from someone, and then that person gets drawn and quartered for even opening their mouth to help. I'm done making anymore attempt to help people on this site anymore. I've never met such a group of ungrateful downright spiteful people in all my life. Notice no more winks??

At least I made an attempt to help, more than people are receiving from anywhere else. Find help amongst yourselves for all I care anymore.

2 plus years of helping people without asking for so much as a simple thank you...right down the tubes, congratulations everyone. I've got much better things to do with my teim and many other places to be more appreciated for my knowledge and efforts than to waste one more second trying to help anyone around here anymore.

I'm not the local Comp Tech anymore...find someone else to rip to shreads. I wish them well. But treat them like I've been treated and they won't last long either.

Thats how you came off to me the whole time, maybe it's your style of writing but it seems like you feel above everyone else. People did try your fixes they didn't work. Merely stating they didn't work when it's the truth got you that worked up? Your still suprised, this is the attitude everywhere on the internet, I sometimes don't post help either for the same reason. But you have to get over it, everyone has better stuff they could be doing. I feel you totally disregarded the information in my posts and either didn't read them or dismissed them as flames or attacks on your person. Which they weren't written to be, I was merely adding to a discussion and attacking the facts.

auxout, I would really contact Microsoft Support over this issue! Please tell us what the result was from that!

As I posted in a previous thread I don't have this problem! Nor do I have a 9x kernel machine to mess around with. I posted in one of the first threads started on this issue for a friend to see if anyone knew how to fix it because my friend had the problem on an ME machine. Seems alot of others do too. I am sorry if you or your friend feels he is being attacked, but it seems to be a much deeper issue than just this thread. I did not write any post with the intent to flame or attack the person, I'll reiterate I'm just trying to attack the facts of the problem.

OK, since i started this thread i should be the one to end it.

I read the first 3 replyes (that came after one day) and i found no useful info. So i tried re-installing the game (thrid time's a charm ). Well, it wasn't. I still coudnt play multiplayer.

But one day after big surprise. When i came home, my brother was playing the game... in multiplayer. I asked him, how the hell did you do that??? He said somethig like: "I just installed the game" (In XP). So... the account id gets generated in XP but not in windows ME. Interesting. I even managed to play it in ME multiplayer with the id generated in XP.

I think its pretty clear that there is a but with the id generation in Win 9x. You guys shoudnt flame Stinger that much, after all he was only trying to help us (Thanks for trying Stinger). New CDs from microsoft wont do the trick, i think. What you can do is try to install windows XP... and generate the key from there or ... wait for the patch.

TEch support results- nada.

Did the online support...got one answer which was the canned first line support - check the read.me check the FAQ on the site.

As I said in the thread earlier, I then copied this thread to them, and everything I tried.
Been 3 days now, not one other response.
Look, I develop for a living, I KNOW my way around code and PC's. I have seen something like this on our own software, key generator deciding not to generate on some systems. And we have it easy. We build the PC's we know the OS, mother board and all components involved. Stuff slips through the cracks. But we fixed the issue immediately. Of course people pay upwards of 40K for our system...But then, we only have 20 people, including QA..not like M$ which basicly have Seattle..and DA, just looking at the credits have obviously more manpower than us.
Not once did I get on the high horse of 'Digital Anvil Sucks' or the 'Games should be perfect.' It's software, stuff happens. I would like a response of some sort from M$ or DA, or at least news of a patch. The game's longevity for me is in the multiplayer and if that is hosed on my home system then after SP it will be regulated to the 'could have been cool' catagory on the shelf.
That said, I am enjoying the game...could have used some more random mission types, but I'm sure they will come from the community or from an expansion. Of course if there is an expansion and I still can't play MP then...well...no soup for them.

Note- Trying to keep on topic....
I've seen how threads get locked around here when the 'flamewar' starts.
So guys keep it down will ya?

I'm not trying to flame anybody if it comes off that way I'm sorry.

That is interesting that it works on xp and not ME, it would interesting if someone would run regmon and see what the game looks at or in ME's case tries to look at in order to generate a key.

This is just speculation, if you're having problems generating an MP unique ID under 98/ME, please try this out and let us know.

More info on 98/ME profiles.
For '98 AND ME users, here's how you enable user profiles. This would then force you to login as a specific user and would create a unique profile for the user:

Step Mouse actions
1 On the Start Menu:
Point to Settings.
Select Control Panel.
2 In Control Panel:
Double-click the Passwords icon.
3 In the Passwords dialog box, select the User Profiles tab.
4 Select "Users can customize their preferences and desktop settings. Windows switches to your personal settings when you log on."
5 Select OK. (it may ask if you wish to reboot at this point, go ahead and reboot)

Then reboot, when it comes up with the login box, DO NOT CANCEL IT, put in a username, you can leave the password blank. Don't forget your usename, Freelancer and other apps will save settings (and save games) under your profile, so you wouldn't want to login and not be able to find your savegames or bookmarks.

Reinstall (if necessary) and try to generate the unique ID for MP.
