MP Acct ID Gen w/Windows ME Failed! DA we need some help he

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

I just read this thread *phew* and I must say, I'm glad I didn't get WinME. My nightmare was getting flserver to run on Win2k - no joy. Yet it took 2 hrs to set up from scratch on WinXP. This is a long story, look here .

I have found that flserver also generates it's own ID. It is in accounts.cfg in the Multiplayer directory buried under <user id>\My Games. It looks to be the same ID size/type used for MP play, somebody should try it.

I am going to theorize. The ID is a number randomly generated hex number that is very big. Since there is zero link to other FL installations and MS (I have Zonealarm so I know {usually} what is going out) that number has to be made in a vacuum. Therefore an infintesimal chance exists your ID will match someones else but oh well. What I am getting at is guess the ID! It is possible that certain IDs are not allowed (like only certain product keys are allowed for Win OS's) but again, someone could try it if they are left with no other choice. If CrazedMoon is right he has discovered a registry location for the ID and a place to put the ID if it can't be placed in the program. Just some theories...

Before you ask I will tell. I'm not a cracker or hacker. I do know a thing or two about software and Windoze systems. By the way, Stinger keep up the good work!

I have the same problem as alphaomega, except that I am running XP, and when I try to join a server a message pops up and says that the server does not recognize my ID.
I printed out my ID so I know I have one but until I can get this fixed I have no way to play Multiplayer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did'nt have any problems with it generating a multiplayer id- I run windows 98se (XP users have it so easy- but older machines like mine it's still better gaming on 98se).. here's what I have installed in case it might help anyone out getting the game to generate a key

ie 5.5 sp1
client for microsoft networks
dial-up adapter
nic card
ipx/tcp protocols only
Primary Network Logon: Windows Logon (instead of client for microsoft networks)
File and Print Sharing
Share Level Access Control

the only problem I had was with the sound not being played sometimes during cutscenes.. found it was being caused by the nemo codec pack v8 I had installed awhile back.. uninstalling freelancer and then the nemo pack- reinstalling freelancer- then putting the nemo pack back in fixed it
