MP Acct ID Gen w/Windows ME Failed! DA we need some help he

Hey everybody. I just got the game today and i started a SP game. I wanted to try the MP too, but when i want to create my MP Account ID the game sais its invalid and it wont even generate a random id (in the readme file it says the game generates one at the first launch).

I reinstalled the game and it still doesnt work... Can anyone help me?

I dont even know how a mp id should look like... but i hear that the warez version works in mp so... what is wrong? Warez works and original doesnt?

The account is generated for you the first time you play multiplayer, after you accept the legalese and choose the LAN or Internet.

When it fails for you, what does it do?

ME is considered a 9x OS.
Anyways, can someone get an official word of this possibly being fixed/worked on? :p

You should all e-mail Digital Anvil.

They could make the first ever legal keygen for a game ;-)

It's for reasons like this there should be an OFFICIAL FORUM !!!!!!!

A Fremen dies when he's too long from the desert. This we call the water sickness.

Bad thing is Digital Anvil is now owned by Microsoft so yer stuck with Microsoft support.

Put in a support issue regarding this and got a canned response back that I needed to create a multiplayer account to play multiplayer......duh....Hello!? I don't have an Account ID generated so I CAN'T create a multiplayer account! GAH!!!!!

So I guess us people with this problem won't be playing Multiplayer unless someone generates an ID for us or they decide maybe to fix it.

Just posted to M$ tech support about this. Copied the thread to them.

Are all of us ME users with this issue?

Don't bother doing any of the following, doesn't work

Reinstalling after:
Using a different location
Whacking the registry entries
moving your save games
praying to god/godess of choice.

Fun day fo 6 or 7 reinstalls. Back to SP for the time being.
Kinda funny that the first product I have had real problems with on ME is a Microsoft product

You are new here aren't you?
Uh huh.

I hope not all WinME users experiance this. I got WinME on my PC at home and since i just got the game yesterday i haven't had the chance to try multiplayer on WinME yet. I've been playing it on A PC with WinXP on it. I'll try it on my comp when i get home in a couple hours and post if it works or not.

I ran into something "similar" to this and this was the way I fixed the problem.

Every time I installed a new version of the game, be it beta version(s), Gold, or retail on initial installation I got that popup window showing my account ID. I did a screenprint of each one. Thank god for following directions!

Now I used the switch feature of WinXP and when I installed the retail version of the game on one user, I got that screen with my user ID, did a screenprint and no problem, installed without a hitch. When I installed it I chose to make the game available to all users too.

When I went to the next user and tried to start the game I got that same account ID screen and thought that was weird (different ID) and made another screenprint and then hit "create." Well, it said wrong ID. So I quickly unistalled the game, and went back through the exact same steps. First installation WAS the same ID I saw before on the first user on the first install. When I got to the 2nd user it did have a different ID than the other user so I simply erased the ID, grabbed my screenprint from the installion on the first user and bingo, it initiated just fine.

Somewhere in this post is probably the answer to the problems people are experiencing.

In addition, this was right on all the screenprints:

I had the same problem in Windows 98 SE. But my system is dual boot, so I executed the game in Windows XP, got that key and entered it in 98 SE. Now it works.

The bug seems to be related to all 9x (including ME). The question is, does it affect 100% of 9x users ?!
