MP Acct ID Gen w/Windows ME Failed! DA we need some help he

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Regarding the System32 folder:
Since %WINDIR%\System is in the %PATH% variable on both OSs and %WINDIR%\System32 is in %PATH% for Win2K, it should find any .dll files without a problem. I'm betting that it's a MFC function (C++ library/dll) that is causing the problem. Make sure that your MFC ("Microsoft Foundation Class" if I remember right) libraries are up to date (try searching the MS site or Google for them).

Just my two cents...

Does anybody know when the next update is coming out they are bound to fix this problem in the update....i hope cus i am trying evrything i can think of......and i am running outta ideas.

I'm making this a sticky so we don't have any mroe duplicate posting on the subject. No answer to this problem has been provided by us, Digital Anvil or Microsoft. If there ever was a bug that got through the testing this would be high on the list!

Stinger

Thanks for Stickying the thread. I'll be checking, along with everybody else, to see when we've got a fix for this.

Post Tue Apr 01, 2003 7:07 am

ok, first off, i never paid much attention to this thread cuz i didn't have this problem. however, after having to reformat my second comp after my father tried to 'fix' a problem with the printer... (not even gunna get into that )
bingo.. same problem. no mp id.
i tried to access my first pc via my network, and quickly found out that i had no ipx protocols installed.
after installing the ipx and re-installing. it worked!!!
maybe it was a fluke and the first install didn't work properly, i don't know and don't care.. i can play now! but at this point.. i figure any help at all will be.. uh.. helpful

now onto the rant!

as i said before, i hadn't read this thread as it wasn't an issue to me, but after reading it now, i'm surprised Stinger is still trying to help!
Here is a guy trying his best to help those who are having problems.
even if it doesn't work, he's doing more for you than any tech support has so far!
so what does he get in return? He get's **** on! heaping mounds of ****!
him being a mod doesn't mean he has to give you your bottle and change your diaper. hell he doesn't have to help at all! all he HAS to do is enforce forum rules and try to keep things organized. some ppl are happy doing that, but Stinger goes above and beyond and actually gives a damn about ppl on this site!
Maby other sites would tell you to go to hell w/o even trying to help whether you asked nicely or not

Bottom Line:
Tech Support is paid to help you.. and they haven't done dick for you so far.
Stinger takes time out of his day to try to help, whether it works for you or not, show a little respect, and you'll get it in return

oh.. and by flaming me for what i say here, you pretty much admit to flaming a guy who's trying to help, which turns your post into the same **** you've been flinging at Stinger

...Just a random thought from a random mind

Post Tue Apr 01, 2003 5:58 pm

Ok.....off topic but how much did Stinger pay for you to say this?

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 2:55 am

How about the people in need just thank the people that are helping them and make everything ok? Then we can all find a solution to the problem as one big friendly unit.

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 10:07 am

@Carnage.. i suppose you could say he has "paid" me with help.
with his knowledge base, he's pretty much become the go-to guy for tech support. is he perfect? no. but ask the countless ppl he's helped and they'll tell you he's been great.
of course, seeing as how you've only been posting here for about a week and a half, i wouldn't expect you to realize that

FYI, Digital Anvil has been made aware of this problem with Windows ME and they are looking into it as you read this. We're asking for a little patience, if anyone can come up with a solution, I trust they can. I'll keep this as a sticky until we hear word from them.

Hello all =)

I figured i would let you know about my Microsoft Customer Support result since I seem to have gotten help. I know it sounds wierd that MS would actually help someone with this issue, but they did. The support rep name was Yogi, and while he did take a week to help me he did send me a MP ID to use. By then a friend had generated an ID for me so i could play on his server, but they did help me. So I suggest you do what i did.

What did I do?

- Go to the Freelancer website.
- Click on the Support link in the top right hand corner.
- On this page you should have the option in the lower left if I recall to Contact a Customer Support Rep. Make sure to have your Product ID handy. You can get your Product ID by putting the Freelancer CD in you computer and the screen that pops up after it Autoloads should have the Product ID in the upper left hand corner.
- Now I used what is called Microsoft Online assisted support. You will need to setup a .NET Passport if you do not already have one. You will also need to enter you Product ID or MS will want a credit card for the $40 fee that they charge if you do not have a Product ID.
- Once you are in the system you will have to give them a basic description of what you issue is. I choose Other as the problem type, marked that it happened every time, and explained that Freelancer was not making a MP ID so I could play online. Now I suggest you mention your OS is Win 98 or ME (what ever you have) and tell them that the MP ID Utility in the Start Menu says that <NO MP ID WAS FOUND>. I did not and had to tell them in a second posting which made my wait for help longer.
- Once your info is entered you have to wait until a Customer Support Rep reads and responds to it. They e-mail you that a response is availible when ever a new one is added. It look alot like a forum when you open all the correspodence.

I told Yogi about this forum and linked this thread for him to read. I also summurized some of the info for him in my second post incase he did not read this thread. This thread had great info and allowed me to explain exactly what seemed to be causing the issue. That limited MS to having to answer to my exact problem and I feel is why they did not send a canned response twice.

Thanks to all the posted here. If they will not help us, then we will help ourselves.

Hope my info can assist you all =)
