Starwars......

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

You dont HAVE to like the new films just because its Star Wars. Theyre poorly scripted, dialogue disasters, acted by professionals who could do so much more if Lucas doesnt put all his faith in ILM as opposed to the guys on the stage. I Can and HAVE talked about Star Wars all day and hope one day to add to the expanded universe one way or the other, but i wont and cant defend Lucas's cock ups so far. Anyone who has read the EU knows about the MAW instalation, about Bevel Lemisk and Grand Moff Tarkin and know that the Geonosians dont know ****.

ya see, I'm the complete opposite. I don't hate episodes 1 & 2 the same way that most people do. To me, they're perfectly interesting additions to the star wars family. There seems to be a trend to shout them down, when all in all they're no better than the original if you look at them close enough. The only thing that makes A New Hope stand out from the rest of them is that it was the first of its kind and groundbreaking for its time. If you actually watch it again with the thought of critiquing it you can hammer it from all angles. Alec Guinness did everything he could to avoid being associated with it - even after it became the biggest grossing film of all time.

What comes down to is this - and I can't wait for the flaming to begin - George Lucas is a second rate director that had 3 good ideas for films - star wars, indiana jones & labyrinth. He's doing today what he did 25 years ago for 1 good reason and 1 good reason only - because he can't direct for **** and has realised that the only way he can make money is to continue what he started almost 30 years ago. And fair play to him for doing it. For christs sake he's pencilled in to do another indiana jones in 2005, all we need now is "return to the labyrinth" and he's milked the lot.

Don't get me wrong, I love the whole lot of them, on a number of different levels, but I don't see the point in slating something that is so blatantly exactly the same??!! Yes I agree there are some pretty major flaws in the new films, but there were in the originals too - we're just blinded by the whole excitment that we experienced the first time around. Would you prefer that he didn't make them? I for one can't wait for the day when I get take a day off and run all 6 films in sequence back to back....granted though, its likely that most of my tea breaks will take place when Binks is on the screen.

I know I'm gonna get slated for this, but frankly I couldn't give a ****.

me'sa tink you'sa don' likee ol' Jar-Jar, Meestah Grommee..

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 11:58 am

Jar-Jar ruined Starwars. He's so goddamn cheerful all the time...

@ arcon .... about the maw installation
ive read the books (wicked)
but one thing i could be wrong so forgive if i am lol

i read somewhere the books no matter what happened in them were just fictional lucas always said anything that goes on the screen will be his

which is a shame cause the maw installtion would have been great on film what with all the wookies they save and the sun crusher .... now theres a ship to outdo the eagle lol

and whos seen the mass mistake in a new hope when the storm trooper walks in to the door .... the bit where 3p0 and r2 are in the control room in the deathstar..... funny as hell to watch lol

have you ever used your light saber to open a bottle of Bud Light???????

yeah lucas has control of the films, but its like he's saying "**** you" to all the fans and authors who write the EU when i blatantly contradicts all their work.

someone should put a restraining order on Lucas, stay away from star wars.

For the record the banging of head by a stormtrooper is said to be intentional, to show how stupid they are. Which i think is bollocks but there you go

I agree! Kill Jar-Jar! Who will join with me? *Begins polishing Heavy Repeating Blaster*

As for ships, I agree. The Z-95 is awful, even the R45 Starchaser is better!

personally if i had to choose a ship id go for the naboo starfighter like pretty smooth ... but im gonna be a sheep and say yes i would love to have an xwing lol

have you ever used your light saber to open a bottle of Bud Light???????

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 3:51 pm

naboo starfighter, what a piece of shiny junk. the X -wing, a-wing and T-wing are real threats, but against TIE advanced or TIE defenders, or even assault Gunboats - not a chance. X-wings are snacks for Tie advanced. the A-wing is the the only hard kill (i hate those things) and a Defender will still drub an A-wing.

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 5:28 pm

yes jar jar.......what a nightmare.....in the first series we had han solo with his witty remarks and r2-d2 and c3po for comic relief.....both of the droids were in the episode 1 why invent a new character that sucks when you already have the two that nailed it home?? I think young obiwan did okay for the witty remarks in han's stead though.....which of course was great in the first films because of the banter between han and old obiwan...... it was almost like a passing of the torch of sarcastic reason......

anyway they seem to have learned they're jar jar lesson in episode 2 as he was a marginal character only.....and lo and behold c3po and r2 take the reigns again.

3 should be great.....I'm looking forward to the massive space battles that gave me such of a chubster in the originals...

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.

are you kidding. I dont know if everyone picked up on this, but if Jar-Jar had been lynched back after Episode 1 then his even more important blunder wouldnt have happened.

He's the goddamn fool that gave Palpatine Emergency powers, thus pretty much securing the mans future as Emperor.

As for starfighters.

I dont care what you say Taw, me in an X-Wing could run rings around TIE or A.G. you decide to turn up in. No matter what, i always go out in the X-Wing.

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 5:51 pm

Palpatine would have got emergency power anyway....Jar-jar just made it easy....come on he's the emperor.....currently fooling the entire galaxy including the jedi order into thinking that he is a nice guy! if it wasn't Jar-jar it would have been some other low-brow senator, hell he's got what 1000 or so to pick from, and you saw how quickly the entire senate got behind jar-jar when he suggested the proposal it was almost instantly unanimous......

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.

ohhh pleeeasssseeeeee in an X-wing? grant you theyre good tough ships and can take a beating, theyre a good all-rounder thats true. but much as i like to agree with you, you're so wayyyy off the mark on this one. in a Tie advanced or Tie defender i will eat you for breakfast with sugar on top <yawn> X-wing boys, all glamour, no substance. dam I'd handicap myself and do it in a Tie interceptor, just to give you a fighting chance. and I'd still win.

if you said an A-wing i might be concerned. if you said a B-wing i'd be bothered about finishing you off at all because those things are tough. but an X-wing? make sure you've got some backup and plenty of it 'cos Uncle Taw plays his SW sims for keeps and not that Gamecube Rogue Leader kids cr*p that me nipper plays. XW v TF/BoP, choose yer ships at dawn. i play you non-stop until you acknowledge me as da Man and you're crying "please don't hurt me daddy, that's the 36th ship I've lost in an hour.."

pah. X-wing.

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 6:48 pm

HAHAHHAHAH I have to agree with Taw on this one.....Tie defender eats x-wings for breakfast brunch lunch supper dinner and tea and midnight snack and at birthdays weddings barmitsfas and funerals.......

no contest.

interesting side note......the tie defender also does supriseingly well against BF-109s......

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.
