Ideas for Freelancer 2
This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!
Another one:
The ability to build your own weapons. Buy some wiring, emitters, a barrel, etc. Then you could have a sort of minigame in which you put them all together. It wouldn't appeal to everyone, but those who have the time would be able to construct some serious hardware. Perhaps also the ability to take apart weapons and have a look at them, see how they're constructed for ideas.

I know, how about you just incorporate all the best bits of lots of different games so that you have a completely interactive universe in which you can run around killing people, then jump in a car and race someone to race cash, then go to an arcade and play some pointless minigames, then go to the airport and hijack a plane and hold the hostages for ransom, with this money you can then buy yourself a spaceship and go and take over the universe and once you've colonised it and made lots of money you can come back to earth and spend all your money, however then a race of aliens attack, who you are forced to deal with and you make even more money out of this, and of course you never die and so its an endless universe for you to explore and then land on other planets and singlehandedly kill everything on the planet and make more money before joining an army and leading your troops to victory on countless occasions and then.....
**Sarcasm Off**
You do realise that this is a space sim as opposed to anything else?

1. Once you have completed the single player game, one should be able to enter 1 of 2 different multiplayer environments: one for dialup and one for broadband -- mixing dialup with broadband introduces unacceptable lag to MP servers.
2. eliminate all "timing" weapons like the Nomad Cruise Disruptor in the Top Freelancers mod -- cut down on lag this way.
3. the multiplayer environment should become a better income producer for Microsoft so that we can look forward to more FL development without waiting 2 or 3 years between editions. You do this by:
a. free access to basic level multiplayer servers running FL 2 MP ver. 1
b. pay a fee or subscription and you get to download successive MODs made by MS FL staff adding story lines, changing ships, equipment, missions, etc.
c. there will be, of course, an independent group of MP servers that spring up around "amateur" mods -- which can be bought and paid for by Microsoft and incorporated into their Pay-Mod service, thus encouraging and benefiting the modding community while getting the bugs out professionally.
I suggest the income producing way for Microsoft as a realistic way to give MS an incentive to maintain their investment and interest in the game and to commit to continuing to expand its horizons and support the FL community.

ok well a few ideas, not sure if they're covered but there is a hell of a lot of posts to this!...if they've been covered sorry. But the list must go on..
1- When landed on a planet; maybe have it simlar to FPS..maybe not to go around shooting but just to explore different parts of the planets. Also traveling in "cars" during this would be cool
2- similar to 1 but being able to fly around the surface of the planet. Adding to this would be being able to buy buisnesses on planet and make some extra cash from them.....i know it would be huge but i can dream can't i!
3- Planets orbit th stars, that way you never visit the "same" system and have to compensate for different planet orbit...this will screw up the navmap a bit!
4- Forget jumpgates! being able jo have a ship equipped with "jump" engines so you can just jump from system tto sytem where ever you are...this one needs some more thought...say buying or "aquiring" new coords from people on planets or from ships destroyed.
5- IF...and i say if, you have the ability to buy Cruisers or destroyers being able to tractor in whole ships and selling them or returing them to whoever hires you for the job....this one would work well with the wingmen one, that way you have ships that can disable the target ship.
6- this one is small and i know it's been attempted but asteroids that move and are unpredictable...make those asteroid fields a little more dangerous.
7- This is mainly a beef i have with the current game...NO AUTO LEVELING! and being able to coast...i never understood why you slow down in space...maybe ni the nebulas but not in space....
8- GRAVITY!
ok i'm done...for now. I know if all the suggestions that are cool were put into it that the gae would be about 10Gb...but who cares it's worth it!

if anyone still looks at this, why dosent someone actually MAKE A MOD using some of these ideas? huh?
i have a titan that dose 4914
dmg with one hit from everything
except for the turret,and torpedo.
your right, nomad wepons are cheap. but not the ones you find in hidden wrecks!:p (if you
looked at my easy money thread,
i got this after only 2 runs, and i
also paid a guy to hack my rep
w/the corsairs)

2 points i havent seen mentioned so far (though i didnt read the entire thing)
-flying in atmosphere, give a cool new environment to play in
-customizable character, choose girl, boy physical feats. and maybe even class?
If you ever reach total enlightenment while drinking beer, I bet you could shoot beer out of you nose.

Well from what I can gather looking on both this forum and many other online forums the Game its self didnt sell to well, therefore this would lead to MS not doing a sequel to it.
Eg EVE although I havent played it personally the future for this type of game completely online were you have to pay to play €150 a year I believe. Therefore allowing the expansion of the game as you go along. With the a fore mentioned game there are over 5000 systems to choose from etc and many of the wishes of previous posters on here.
Although with MS anti trust case looming in the USA.Which looks like it will go the way that Standard Oil did, resulting being broken up and sold off. Does this or will this have an effect on the development of such a future game?

Not sure if it been said, but theses are my thought.... Some (most of it had been in one game or another, but if thats what it takes...)
- other races.. Humans are not the only ones out there
- Jump drives, for the small 1 - 3,4, or 5 K jumps.... Use your C engines for anythig else.
- New weapons classing. The (fancy names is cool, but some times simple is a good thing.
- Energy bomb's, (just like in the original Elite) it's that last ditch effort, 1 times use bomb that hits everything in a huge area. Gives you a chance to run before more show up...
-Better tracking with the missles.... Come on, they can turn around and come in for a 2nd pass....
-Flight controls CAN be done with joystick ( I prefer mouse, but lets see what sells)
-Smarter AI.. A novice AI pilot, I should hope, would not attack a Elite pilot unless he has a lot of back up.... makes senceto me. Would you step into a ring with Mike Tyson... (Pro Boxer)

1: some kind of a mine launcher that works like a gun, but sticks to the opponent
befor blowing up.
2: a system overide beam to shoot at opponents to make them crash into their freindlies' ships.
3: wrecks blow up when shot to much.
4: a custom ship/weapon builder.
5: ability to create your own fraction.
6: codenames should be sold/avaliable at "secreat weapons factories" that you can get into only by: a. being in realy good with that respective fraction. b. breacking in and stealing them(NOT HAVING THEM ON A SHIP WITH THE PROPIBILIATY OF LOOSING THEM IN THE EXPLOSION!!!).
thanks for listing!
