New Tool - Freelancer System Editor v0.3 *UPDATED*

Here you can find the postings on the different editing utilities found for Freelancer

Post Sat Jan 29, 2005 5:25 am

Hi PsyCadelik,

Super work, well done and keep it up for those that need your utilities.

There are some wishful people out there, aren't there! I know you're not in a position to tell them so maybe I can give them this hint:

If you don't know what it's for guys, it ain't for you - so leave it alone!

Asking for stuff that you will never use or that take the utility beyond what it's meant to do is just a waste of the designer's time.

Don't complicate it for the guys that really need his help and time.

Well done Psy

thank-you for answering my question Psycadelik. good luck on your future progects. Now that I know that this is only a system editor I can look elsewere for the info I need.

Blessed Be to all those that still dream of the flight to the stars.

Well, I have looked at this editor but have not used it yet. One thing I did notice was that my mod does not show up in the editor .

It might be a good idea to make it possible to get mod data into the editor. That way the product can be used with existing mods.

If there is a way to do this then I must have missed it. This brings up another little problem. The interface needs to be more user friendly. I see that with version 2 you have already been working on this.

Generally, this looks like a fine start on a very useful tool. Thank you for your effort and keep up the good work.

I did not want the program to load any game or mod files automatically,
that could have caused some real problems.

The program uses a duplicate of the original universe located in the program's folders.
ex: ../Freelaner System Editor/Universe/Systems/Li01/..
including a universe.ini

You can open any system ini file ex: "Li01.ini" and edit that system.

Pay attention to the directories in the program. And do you wonder why you
have a system called "Psy01" ? hehe

This program looks great!

A few things that might need a fix when you gonna make v0.3:

1) The program seems to show the system at a fixed 1:1 scale. If a system is larger in the game (E.g 'NavMapScale = 0.8',), some parts aren't shown.

2) The program seems to show ELLIPSOID zones as if they are circles, which they're not, and only shows two fields for the size properties, while there are 3 values needed ('size = 18000, 9000, 12000')

Hi Blackhole0.

Umm - know what you mean!

How about a compromise that would help everyone out - would you look at writing an editor for bases etc instead of systems? See above.

Just a wishful thought!

hmmmmm... Well, i WAS going to include a base editor... of sorts... in my system editor... so yeah i guess i'll go check out the INI files . Maybe Psycadelik will be generous enough to pop it in his program.... he'd probably have to execute a SHELL command in order to run it as a seperate EXE.... Hey Psycadelik, what're you using to make this editor? VB6? C++? .Net? i use VB6.

AAAAIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! WTF IS IN THOSE INI FILES? Uhhhhh heh.... i seem to have encountered a minor problem.... the base files have a line of unreadable code, (which always starts with "BIN", and even if i can work around that i hit a brick wall in the room INI files. They are a MESS.... 4 to 5 lines of strange charecters (unreadable code) and then lots and lots of jumbled up words. If you guys want an editor, you gotta tell me what the ruddy h*ll those bits of unreadable code do (i can handle the messy words, its just that... well... they're messy!).

Blackhole0 : I wouldnt mind including it if its good enough And im using VB6.
(the forms/modules or a exe)

Moonhead : Thanks for that report, ill do my best to include a mapscale option,
and I already fixed the ellipsoids and the 3 values. thx

I also made a generator, where you can specify the number of planets and stars, and the related zones will be generated as well.

REALLY? SWEET! This is great! now i can just send you my source code and you can plop it into your project. Just give me credit . I'm making progress on the program, so far i've gotten the basic interface down. Its not that hard, whats going to be hard is supplying the user with useful editing tools

EDIT: Oh hey, that also means i dont have to supply an icon! *hallelujah song*

I found some bugs:

If you click on an object (base, planet, etc.) the X and Y coordinates are there... but there are no X: or Y: (X: 61238 instead of 61238)

If you move the mouse over the objects ... the coordinates wont be shown.

I think there is a bug in the fog color.

Sometimes the object behavior and object reputation wont be saved correctly.

And at last ... the object X coordinate is not in the middle of the object width.

Please sort them out.

Whoopie! i just got something to work! (specifically, i got it so that it can open up to 11 bases at a time, i could make it more, but who would want to open 11 bases?) now its on to the file reading..... i'll have a beta out by saterday! (if i'm lucky)

btw....... does your system editor read in all the system INI files that EXIST? or just the normal ones? you should enable it to read all of them that EXIST... (hint: use the data in the UNIVERSE.INI to figure out which systems to open)
