Getting a class 10 ship in 2 hours and 49 minutes

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Getting a class 10 ship in 2 hours and 49 minutes

Warning - this info will destroy MP freelancer for you. If you do this, your game is basicly over. You can go anywhere, kill anything. This is posted mainly as an example of how flawed the economic engine of the game is. The following was done on an open server, with PvP on. No cheats were used whatsoever.

00:00 Launch. Destroyed Cargo dumps. Don't waste batteries or nanobots, just let your ship die if caught.
00:10 Sold all weapons and nanobots. Purchaced 20 light arms at Detroit Munitions Departed for Montezuma base. Nothing in Liberty is agressive anymore.
00:22 Arrived at Montezuma. Sold Light arms. Bought 16 Carmadine
00:35 Arrived at Manhattan. Sold Carmadine. Bought a Rhino and Hfeul
00:39 Arrived at Detroit Munitions. Sold HFeul. Bought 80 Light Arms
00:51 Arrived at Montezuma. Sold Light Arms. Bought 60 Carmadine.Got jumped outside, but easily outran the rogue ships
01:01 Arrived at Manhattan. Sold Carmadine. Bought Hfeul.
01:03 Arrived at Detroit. Sold HEfeul. Bought 80 Light Arms
01:11 Arrived at Montezuma. Sold Light Arms. Left Empty. Total banked: 163k
01:20 Arrived at Mactan base. Bought Dromedary and 132 Carmadine. Got jumped again, and had to use 11/12 shield batteries, but escaped.
01:31 Arrived at Manhattan. Sold Carmadine. Total 198k. Bought Hfeul.
01:34 Arrived at Detroit. Sold Hfeul. Bought Light Arms. Total: 206k
01:43 Arrived at Montezuma. Sold Light Arms. Bought Carmadine. Total 353k
01:52 Arrived at Manhattan. Sold Carmadine. Bought Hfeul. Total 587k
01:54 Arrived at Detroit. Sold Hfeul. Bought Light Arms. Total 595.
02:27 Arrived at Malta. Sold Light Arms. Total 941k. Bought Sabre.
02:49 Returned to Malta with 4 nomad guns, 2 class 9 guns, and enough cash to buy a class 10 shield. Game over.

Does this make me a good player? Hardly. My first kill in the game was a nomad. I was able to manipulate the faction system to keep myself virtually unattacked for most of the game. Any moron can pull this off. Even you.

Montezuma Base - Cortez

Blitz! That’s exactly my point.
But when noobs are wasting time with difficulty 1 missions and then see you on server with Sabre after couple of hours - you are CHEATER because they are only Lv. 4.
Plus If you give somebody big money to let him buy good ship - he's CHEATER too.

People should slow down a bit.
Otherwise they can get ban because they are too good.

This is one of my main complaints with the game. One of things that kept Diablo II so interesting even though at it's heart it was an entirely simplistic game was that there was always something more to get, some cool new item to grab or a new level to gain. Frankly, the only thing that keeps me playing Freelancer after I hit level 38 on any given character is player vs. player combat on multiplayer servers, I usually end up just starting a new character after a while and doing it all over again.

I really hope DA plans to address this in a patch, some trade runs could be made to be less profitable, ships could cost more, and it wouldn't kill them to add a few new interesting weapons in hard to reach places.

I also think that perhaps the single player systems should be "unlocked" and rebalanced for multiplayer servers, there are some interesting things in there and it's a shame to keep it out of the multiplayer experience.

I am currently attempting to make a mod for my server which slows down player advancement greatly.
Lower pay for missions.
Lower prices for cargo.
Higher Prices for ships/weapons/equipment.
Tougher staring reputaions.
Etc...

I am hoping that other, with more skill, will be able to add new items and such...my skills are meager and more suited to the more monotnous job of changing large volumes of data. LOL!

I think the problem is that people are treating this game like it's a no-subscription MMORPG.

Freelancer is at heart a single player game, MP was never said to be its main feature, it's just a diversion. You can't really expect the game to be as balanced as a true MMORPG. Believe me I would love for FL to be a true MMORPG, but for the $49.99 that I paid for it (and that's the only amount I'll ever pay for it) I don't really expect anything more than a good single player game.

I think the solution is to change the leveling calculation so that it is not completely based on total worth. It could also be linked to total flight time, number of DIFFERENT bases/systems visited, number of missions COMPLETED, etc.. I think it shouldn't FORCE you to do missions, but if you ONLY trade in 2 or 3 systems (like above) or ONLY do missions in 1 or 2 systems, it will take 10 times longer to level... I seriously think it should be so damn complicated we couldn't figure it out. Only by exploring, trading, visiting lots of systems, perfomring missions could you level quickly and you would be absolutely sure of WHEN you would level up.

Just my 2 cents.

pyrate dredd: you want some help or play testing? i would be interested.

i believe there is alot of modding potential in freelancer for those willing to try. i personally cant wait until somebody finds a way to mod ships =) cause the current ones are almost all butt-ugly.

i aggree with most people, though. after some 40 hours of play, both single and multi, it does feel easy and unbalanced. i beat almost every mission of the single player on the first try.

it would probably make more sense to start neutral with everyone and then have harsher penalties not so much for helping one side as hurting the other side. Like if you go on a mission to atack outcasts maybe you go red with them, much harder that way.

He's right anyone can pull this off... in a multiplayer game with friendly fire turned off.

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 11:30 pm

He said friendly fire was turned on, and if you do this at night, nobody will be around to stop you within 3 hours.

And remember: Friendly fire isn't.
