Freelancer Plot is Retarted!

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

If you can't even spell the word you probably don't know what it means.

Post Fri Apr 04, 2003 3:34 am

tasiin, if all your replies are this short and unhelpful, its no wonder you've posted over 300 times and made it to flight commander

maybe i should do the same thing and get promoted

Sometimes a short answer is the best.

I'm not spamming, I just think he's an idiot and I'm entitled to my own opinion.

Having aliens in the plot doesn't make it retarded... it's what you do with the aliens. Not going to criticize the plot (there're enough comment on that already), I would just like to point out other sci-fi plots that involve "aliens"...

- Alien (One of the best sci-fi of all time for obvious reasons: aliens!)
- Contact (Jodi finds out her dad's an alien )
- Men in Black (Tommy Lee Jones... oh wait he's human)
- 2001: Space Odyssey (Gee...)
- Planet of the Apes (yup they're aliens... hee hee)
- Starwars (Ah Jar Jar... DIE!)
- Startrek (To boldly go... where every alien looks human... in bad make-up)
- The Thing
- Wing Commander (The cat-bear things... Kilrathi or something?)

I'm gonna stop here since over 90% of sci-fi has at least an alien of some kind, and some of them are good and some bad... so aliens are definitely not what make a story dumb.

ok .. i just have to speak up here .. .... i feel the topic is just to get our minds thinking.... wouldnt it have been better to just leave it as a human element? could they have done more with the plot without aliens? its a little cheesy and cliche.... the reason most of the movies you listed were hits, is because most of em were sorta ground breaking plots involving aliens ....

the basic plot used in freelancer isnt exactly ground breaking ... its just like bodysnatchers or puppetmaster .... (not the one with the freaky puppets .. but the alien one!) .... its nothing new. its been done before .. countless times... aliens inhabiting human hosts. the odds are against us. we are going to lose. suddenly we discover some miraculous weakness, that the aliens in all their immense ability could not stop us from exploting, and hey presto! aliens go bye bye!!!

are you guys all saying you didnt find the ending somewhat dissapointing? even more dissapointing is the fact that trent didnt even make a move on Juni! hahahahaha ... Juni is yummy

anyway ... regarding your alien movie list ... ahem...

- Alien - GROUND BREAKING STUFF! Also it was part horror part sci fi ...

- Contact - errr no .. her dad is NOT an alien! the alien took the form of her father so that she could comprehend and adjust to seeing it... it was quite an anti-climax actually

- Men in Black - Tommy IS an alien! hahahahaha kiddin ... i think the premise of a secret society protecting us from aliens is a pretty kewl concept ... AFAIK, this was ground breaking too ....

- 2001: Space Odyssey - erm ....its not an alien is it? wasnt it a computer that became self aware? ...

- Planet of the Apes - no they arent aliens! in the original, they just evolved and eventually took over the earth... in the mark walhberg remake, they evolved from the chimps and apes that were on Mark's mother ship....

- Starwars (Ah Jar Jar... DIE!) - i couldnt put it any better! hahahaha ... but the new episodes 1 & 2 suck ass ...

- Startrek (To boldly go... where every alien looks human... in bad make-up) hahahahahahahaha ... not exactly ground breaking, but the concepts spark interest ...

- The Thing - oh yeah! .. u hit the nail with this one! hehehe .. but notice this and Alien have the same concept? sci-fi horror! .. works for me though!

- Wing Commander (The cat-bear things... Kilrathi or something?) ... errr ... can anyone say star trek klingons meet fur balls? hehehehe .... but it was still a good attempt ....

all in all ... the plots in the movies u listed were pretty new at the time .... unlike the plot in freelancer which is soooooooooo overdone ..... i guess its not really their fault either... its just harder to come up with better plots and twists as time goes by ....

gee .. i seem to be rambling .... Tassin ... i take back my words ... sometimes a shorter answer is better!

OK..so the storyline IS a bit too much used . . . lemme add to the list, E.T and SIGNS... both had aliens, but based on earth, and they were weird ppl in weird make up... not too different from star trek...AND babylon 5..i was hoping for a really original one, like those in cartoons, but the most i would have taken was an oversized head, but the signs alien is all just a guy in a bathing suit that went in the colour mixer... and taiin, i think i'm doing better...

presently, my world is upside down, so if u do not mind, u'll have to tok to my a$$

Germans being the bad guys is an overused plot device as well...

Yea, in real life too LOL.

The plot for Freelancer was pretty standard SciFi fare. The cutscenes were well done, and the acting was.. not stellar, but overall I liked it.

Would I have liked it better if the story was better? Oh yea. But I don't think we'll see a real good story in a computer game for a long, long time yet.

Re: Sol destroyed or not ?

Quote from NeuralNet: They fled for the stars, away from the final spasm of war that swallowed their first home in fire and then in blackness.

How would you think the "blackness" is meant when not sol exploding was the reason for blackness ?

Just my 2 €cents

Americans with the best technology? Why? What, did they store their bank accounts securely within the sleeper ship?
We made the best technology from scratch before...makes sense we would do it again. We did more in 200 years than Europe did in 2000...heh heh

Sadistic, I think it's quite believable. A lot of Americans don't know why we are kicking the **** out of Iraq right now
Oh, thats easy. Because they are a potential threat to us and the UN refuses to enforce it's own rules.

Him: For the sake of grammar... it's retarded. Not "retarted".

You: That would be uh... "spelling" not "grammar".
HAHAhahahaha...omfg thats funny.

If you are going to criticisze someone else, guess you better make sure your own sh!t is correct too, heh heh

heh heh heh, I'm beginning to love this thread.

Methinks you've proven his point.

Yuppy now this thread has turned into a political discussion...

As for American technology superior to European, where do you think those "Americans" came from? Mars?

And the post about "originality" from the films I listed, did you even read the first paragraph? I said "it's what you do with the aliens", meaning originality comes from the story teller, not the aliens.

And really, there's nothing original left in outer space anyway; everything that can be imagined, has. Stellar phenomenons, extraterrestrial civilizations, human expansions, space chimps, and even giant vacuum cleaners (see Space ball)...

The only truly original ideas can only come from us, as we are the only "things" here, retards and "retarts" alike...

At least that "spelling" was correct.

Me: We made the best technology from scratch before...makes sense we would do it again. We did more in 200 years than Europe did in 2000...heh heh

Ha ha ha no.
Sorry to pee on your parade, but, yes. I'm afraid we did =(

I couldnt help but notice there is no European or Japanese computer market that isnt based on American technology...Or that we have the best military technology...I'm sure it's just a coincidence tho heh heh

"As for American technology superior to European, where do you think those "Americans" came from? Mars?"

Earth. We are an amalgam of all races and all cultures. Therefore we transcend all races and all cultures. If being European was enough, Europe would be the superpower instead of us.

We are the (militarily) most powerful, most advanced, wealthiest nation the earth has ever seen. We are also the most diverse culture the Earth has ever seen. Hard for me to believe that is a coincidence.
