Independance War 2: Edge Of Chaos?

Earth & Beyond

It's interesting no one mentioned this game yet. Many aspects of DarkStar One, such as expandable/growing chasis, are directly taken out of this first true MMORPG made.

DarkStar def best choice by now... too bad no MP tho

hard to find a game that matches FL

and yes going for an older game or which has already a strong community makes no sense

HOMEWORLD 2? no the fanbace is cr*p, it has loads of modding pertentual, along with its prequisits, no decompilers required for ini, its all in plain text, just need a .big extracter (plus a .lua extracter for hw2)

its perfect for those rts space peaple,
the REASON it failed miserably is cause it wasnt advertised...
half of the peaple reading this thread dont even KNOW this game,
and therefor ilustrating my point,

its such an EASY game to mod, but i think a freelancer mod for it would be awesome (imagine baltimore shipyard hyperspacing in...)
and mass-produceing defenders and patriets,
choosing each loadout individualy...,
the posibilities of this game are endless...
just take 3 seconds after reading this to inspire yourself with wave-after-wave of defenders in 5-amount delta formations...
and dreadnaughts turning to broadside to fully comliment the guns

I would say Homeworld 2. It's has a epic storyline, many features for modders out there and a nice multiplayer.

Dark star one is good,I vote for it.And by the way IF I AM NOT MISTAKING there"s MP in it.

Post Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:30 pm

No MP listed anywhere for it, something that important would be in 'features'.

EDIT: Went on their forums, it's a 'maybe but no promises' for MP.

Wasnt there a poll that said something about AoE 3 and it was about TLR covering it? As I remember the medium coverage option won.Plus its a Microsoft game and I think we should stick to Microsoft games.

Post Tue Dec 13, 2005 5:45 pm

Why do you guys want to stick to Microsoft games? Aren't they the people who shut down Digital Anvil? Killed off any chance for Freelancer 2? Staged the hostile takeover of the independent studio before that, resulting in Freelancer's delayed release and reduced content, as well as transfering its other projects elsewhere?

It's not that Microsoft didn't release some good games. To say that what LR cover have to be Microsoft only and nothing else suggests the kind of loyalty which the huge monopoly really doesn't deserve. Consider how much Microsoft screwed Digital Anvil after the takeover, it's just strange to see Freelancer fans hold such a high opinion of them.

As for suggestion, consider StarWolves. Pretty good for a space based RPG.

There's also SpaceRangers, but I've never played it. Looks okay though...

dagger, without Microsoft Freelancer WOULDNT have been released, cause DA was losing money rather quickly I believe.Plus Microsoft sponsors us-I think.

Post Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:40 pm

The rendering engine and most other aspects of Freelancer was already completed when Microsoft ate Digital Anvil. Had it been released on time, Freelancer would have delivered the influx of cash DA needed. Instead, Microsoft took over DA, exported most of its titles, and stalled others like Freelancer for "restructuring." At least they didn't change too much and ruin it completely.

Anyway, another space sim that haven't been mentioned is Tachyon: The Fringe. It's kinda old, but with so few titles in the genre, we might as well consider it.
