I dunno...
I thought that if we did it by filetype, since mods often have a few of each, it would be too complicated to track. Maybe it would be better to do it like
credits:
mesh-

texture-

inis-
(for ships)

I like it. But does that include any changes in goods.ini or where they can be found to be bought? Or are you just doing the ships themselves regardless of any surround game mechanics?

I would say the latter would be easier, but maybe leave room to have a link or links to the ini files where they are added into certain mods. Or maybe that isn't necessary whatsoever? I guess I'll just have to see how your schematic comes out.

e have you seen the registry yet? It's here.

So far it is looking great!! It'll be interesting to see how you do systems with so many files changed and added to allow them.

Oo boy I feel a little behind the game...Like I missed the battle and I come in with the big guns when all the ideas, the people, and even their squires, have been buried and forgotten.
This registry project is good, but a little late on my part .
Dunno whether I should continue.

@Imagine,

You've been carrying the laboring oar quite handily. This templates thing
has been a bit more of a struggle for me. Now I see that I misunderstood Spam's
actions.

I have not done very many ships... keep trying to see if I am missing how to do it because, basically, they have a lot of blanks.

BTW: Where do I send the templates? Do I e-mail them to you?

Post Tue Dec 02, 2003 4:01 am

ye, just email them to me, make sure you put something really obvious in subject like "template" or it will go out as spam.
Yes there are a lot of blanks. The part I'm mainly worried about is properly crediting the creators.
The other fields are things that are just good to know, and if it's not there, people will just request it to be filled in if they want to know. Then we just dload the mod and find out.

Post Tue Dec 02, 2003 4:03 am

you know what might be faster is to just put name, screenie, credits, and links in the templates you can't find enough data for in the description, then go back later and fill them in or let people who have used the mod fill it in.

Get Chips to post his stuff into your creation and you will see it have life. A lot of people look up to him and his skills as a modder. People learning how to do things may look his stuff up.

From the play Reynet: The Prince of Starfyre:

Reynet: To be, or not to be: that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the spams and emails of outrageous Microsoftia fortune, or to take arms against a sea of lawyers. And by opposing, end them? To die: to sleep; to log off; no more; and by a sleep to say we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that circuit board is err to, 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep; to sleep, perchance to dream: aye, there's the rub; for in that sleep of death what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this Lancer coil, must give us pause. There's the respect that makes calamity of so long work; for who would bare the copies and scams of thieves? The pangs of despised love, the law's delay, the insolence of office and the spurns that patient merit of the unworthy takes? To grunt and sweat under a weary life, but that the dread of something after legal action? The undiscovered country from whose work is bourn no traveler returns, puzzles the will and makes us rather bare those ills we have than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; and thus the native hue of resolution is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, and enterprises of great pith and moment with this regard their currents turn awry, and lose the name of action!

@Imagine

Sorry,

I've been goofing off instead of doing any templates lately. Will get back to it next week when my time gets freed up a little.

@SnS

You're right Chips would be a great asset to moving this forward BUT he also was one who felt that any kind of attempt at protecting credit was rather fruitless because everything is derivative to some extent just to get it to work in FL. That was one of the thrusts of his argument with R$y+e+ at one point going back to the basis of your play.

I'll ask him though. I'll post to him and see.

@Indy11, true he did argue from a point of view preserving credit is useless. But he does himself give credit where it is due. And from the point of view that it may help others in their mod making, he may do it. I'd ask him before trying to discount him.
