that would be the very pneumatic Natassia Malthe as "Typhoid" to the equally flexible Jennifer Garner as "Elektra" in the recent film of that name. Quite what persuaded Terence Stamp to appear in this production I don't know, I can only think it was the money! yet another popcorn-fest I was blagged into going to see by my kids. Actually it wasn't too bad and the girls were very distracting to watch jumping around <sigh> Incidentally did you know that the director, Rob Bowman, also did several X-Files episodes, many ST:TNG eps, Alien Nation, Quantum Leap, and even an episode of <the horror, the horror> MacGuyver? No wonder you liked it, FD.

I see I'm going to have to give the answer to mine, I'm very surprised none of our other film buffs got it, it really isn't that hard. Roy Scheider played the character of Murphy in Blue Thunder, and he was the narrator to Mishima: A Life in 4 Chapters by Paul Schrader about the bonkers Japanese uber-nationalist poet Yukio Mishima who famously committed suicide in the 70s, very publicly. Excelelnt score by Philip Glass. ok maybe the Mishima bit was hard but Roy Scheider's work is well-documented.

Ummmm. Mishima killed himself in 1970. He was a nationalist nutjob by then. Not to say that he hadn't the makings of it when he was younger. But he was one of the few writers in Japan of his time who took pains to manage translations of his work into other languages. His skill in transferring his voice from Japanese into English, for example, was quite refined. If one were to take the time to find his titles in English, it would be a rather pleasant surprise. I understand that he was rather good at working to translate into French as well.

I know the movie from your clue, Pete. One of the few clues I've gotten on this thread But isn't it a bit outside of the beaten path? And, I don't have a clue to give in turn so I'll just shut up now.

The beatles quote is definitely from Welcome to Sarajevo...but having not seen Elektra, I'm not sure what the connection is - an actor/actress? can't be arsed to google it

Edward, I quite admire Mishima's work, in English of course because my Japanese is appalingly bad, and I've always found him a fascinating (if in many ways quite repugnant) character. very similar in many ways to Italian *patriot* Gabriele d'Annunzio.

Grom, I know it's Steve Coogan's *Parole Officer* but I don't know the connection. btw I hated that film, I didn't raise a smile once. Waste of good celluloid imho! the sprogs liked it though...
