Time to play...Name That Movie!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I haven't seen Napoleon Dynamite yet. Will I like it? (you know what I like, is it my bag?)

Rec - much as the Duke often distoibs me too, some of his fillums do stand up to critical scrutiny. The Searchers is full of visual treats and directorial insights, such as the famous cabin-doorway scene at the end, or the excellent self-deprecating The Shootist. The Duke was a lot more more than the hammy method-actor he's often belittled as being, although many of his opinions and actions leave a lot to be desired, being non sequiteur even while he was still alive.

I like Westerns too btw

What movie was this quote in?
What character said it?
The Actors real name?

"What the hell do you mean "cowardly blacks?" They died on your side, didn't they? And who the hell do you think is coming to wipe out your little command? The Grenadier Guards?"

and no using google, thats cheating :p

a lot of people that didn't like it have told me that you need to be mormon and had to have grown up in mid-western USA. Fitting both criteria, I loved it. My wife doesn't think that it is funny at all (she's not from the mid-west) and a friend of mine laughed til he cried (he doesn't fit either classification). I think that it depends on your taste in humor, the mood your in when you watch it, and who you watch it with.

It's very subtle humor almost dry... Hey, you Brits might like it, being dry and all.

was it something I said?

oops sorry topher, didn't confirm things for ya. Yeah, it's Napoleon Dynamite, and your guess about the girl was right.
It's your turn to put forward a quote!

I happen to be one of those Brits who enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite although i think a large part was identifying bits of myself and old school friends in that movie more than anything else. I'm sure it'd be even better if I'd grown up somewhere like that.

continuing with connections...

"It's chilly outside, it's Chili inside. It's a regular f***ing Chili fest."

Post Fri Dec 09, 2005 4:49 pm

that's from a Travolta film, Swordfish or Get Shorty but I dunno the connection with Napoleon Dynamite; I'm guessing one of the actors or one of the writers?

Post Sat Dec 10, 2005 7:29 pm

Taw/Topher, that's from Get Shorty Great flick...How about this quote...

Pottersville! I mean Pottersville!!!

Here's a fun one, same line in two differnt movies. "Cry Havok and let slip the dogs of war!"

name both, if you can. Differnt genres as well.

General Chang, played by Christopher Plummer, "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.."

however the quote is originally from Mark Antony's oration over Caesar's corpse in the Forum, as written by Wilyarm Shaekspaere in his play "Julius Caesar" i.e.

"...And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial."

rather well portrayed by Charlton Heston in the late 60s film version; has anyone been watching Rome on HBO though? superb series but very very raw and fierce, bit too strong at times even for my jaded tastes.

Post Mon Dec 12, 2005 6:12 am

Here's one for your consideration. A quote from the movie...

"Good man.Nice man.Very, very, sick man."

The actor has appeared in films from great to horrible to somewhat outre

You got one Taw, the other was Will Patton aka General Bethlahem, from The Postman. And Costner returned the quote at the end of the movie.

Post Mon Dec 12, 2005 11:49 am

that's not a line I can imagine costner saying, he doesn't have the voice to make it sound threatening at all.
