Time to play...Name That Movie!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I don't have much money but boy if I did, I'd buy a big house where we both could live. If I were a sculptor, but then again, no. Or a man who makes potions a traveling show. I know it's not much.."

Erm, isn't that an Elton John song?
I hope you don't mind,I hope you don't mind, that I put down in words,
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I don't know it's name, but I can sing it if you like

Post Sun Nov 20, 2005 9:12 am

Taw, those look like elton john lyrics to me....which leads me to believe we're talking "Moulin Rouge" are we not? (Mr McGregor being the connection)

ok...linking on....

"A thing of shreds and patches, of ballads, songs and snatches and dreamy lullaby!"

PS. It was indeed "brassed off" - i know it wasn't critically acclaimed, but i do love that film.

brother gromit is once again correct.

your quotes from G&S *Mikado* but the only connection with Moulin Rouge I can think of is Jim Broadbent, who did an abridged radio spoof G&S?

*do i give it him, don't i give it him, ooh its a toughy*

yeaaaah ok, I'll give you it even though you didn't get the film - i figure if you can get jim broadbent from a set of g&s lyrics but not the film, then you'll never get it.

The quote is from the wonderful little movie "Topsy Turvy" where Jim Broadbent played W.S.Gilbert, one half of partnership that was Gilbert and Sullivan. The words are of course lyrics from "A Wandering Minstrel", part of "The Mikado", which featured strongly in the film.

so, tis your turn taw...

cheers!

and in return I'll make mine mega-double super dooper flame-grilled with cheese on top hard

"Oh, I didn't call ya *dirty*. I CALLED YA *STINKIN'*! "

I want the title, the character and the connection between that and the previous two questions. and it's a really obscure 100% film buff connection

ok, you've got me there...clue?

Post Sun Nov 20, 2005 10:07 am

very small people.

still not got it? I can hear you googling! since it doesn't look like anyones going to get it, heres' another clue. The link is a scene in another Jim Broadbent film which is a direct reference to the film I'm quoting from. ah I'm gonna have to spill the beans....

Answer:-

Jim Broadbent played Pod in The Borrowers. if you saw it on the big screen like i did, you'll have noticed a scene where a little Red Indian figure is knocked off a shelf. the Indian brave is Little Bear from The Indian in the Cupboard (lovely film) and he is the savage referred in that quote i gave, which is spoken by the cowboy figure Boone who also comes to life. i did say it was a hard one!

I really ought to do one Eduardo can get, he hasnt had a go yet. Fireman Sam maybe or Postman Pat the Movie seeing as he's a specialist in films for the under-5s oh I've got it....Care Bears. How totally appropriate

FD i couldnt get your earlier one, you'll have to tell us.

I have come to bring you a country called chaos, and a government called anarchy.

some might recognize it, now only the movie its from...

Post Sun Nov 20, 2005 5:00 pm

Loc you're jumping the queue! However i think yours it that one where whatsisface is a mad irish bomber? the bloke who was in that thing with Harrison Ford, usually plays cops or roles like that. Devil's Own? Patriot Games?

A old and harder one. "I had wanted to talk to our friend the Zealot and negotiate, but the acting General has removed that option, All members of the legion are to prepare to move on ________."

This was an old miniseries, Masada. Peter O'toole and Peter Strauss 1981

i remember that! i rreally enjoyed that, although O'Toole was an odd choice for a Roman general. He was better as Tiberus in Caligula (appallingly disgusting film in every other respect, but he was perfect for Tiberius as an aged degenerate)

Blue Thunder. that's just too easy.

Post Mon Nov 21, 2005 1:51 am

Your turn taw.

By the way, I would never have got Indian in the Cupboard - I'm yet to see that one.

Post Mon Nov 21, 2005 4:56 am

The Indian in the Cupboard is actually very good, a lot more to it than just a kid's feelgood film; Little Bear makes some rather perceptive insights into questions of existence (for a kid's film at any rate)

my next quote is:

"I come out on the stage determined to make people weep. Instead, they burst out laughing!" (note to Edward - you should be able to get this one, and it's not Care Bears)

and yes there is a direct connection between the film this is from, and Blue Thunder (FD you gotta get out of the 80s! although it wasn't an arf bad film, Malcolm McDowell's hamming not withstanding, it was a mediocre tv series - but I watched it anyway!)
