"but if you don't do anything bad then you don't have any reason to worry"
(Blaze i think you're a top bloke, but that statement is SO wrong.)
Everyone -
if anyone thinks for a second that this is designed to cut down on fraud or prevent terrorism, they're very much mistaken. the purpose of this is to enforce govt tracking and control of citizens for (and take notice of this) -
whatever the hell they want
the fact that people are willing to accept this on the basis of "preventing terrorism" shows how well the "let's stop the terror" propaganda worked in the wake of 9/11. In fact such things will do jack-sh*t to stop terrorism, terrorists work in very different ways under the "radar" so to spk. Ever stop to wonder why, if 9/11 was such a big surprise, the supposed terrorists were identified and/or captured almost straight away? why the hell weren't they caught BEFORE ffs? You should be incredibly wary of voluntarily surrendering your freedoms - do you think you're going to get them back?
is something like this going to stop another Timothy Mcveigh building fertiliser bombs in his garage? I don't think so. Is it going to make the slightest difference to an organisation with the resources and dispersion of al-Quaeda? No, of course not. So what the hell is it for then?
Crime prevention? most petty crime is committed by opportunists and people with relatively little to lose, who are alrrady part of a criminal subculture. so it won't make any difference to them. more serious crime is committed in the heat of the moment, which again is largely impossible to guard against, or by long and careful planning by people who would be q capable of resourcing/obtaining get arounds for something like this.
So what the hell
is it for then?
to control YOUR lives. to make sure you pay your taxes, pay your traffic fines, don't say or do anything *untoward* don't associate with the wrong people (people like me for instance) etc etc. Just where will the line be drawn? how much freedom are you prepared to lose before you feel safe? do you think it'll stop with this? no - there'll be some new *threat* and we'll have to surrender yet more personal freedom. until we have none left.
Never me, never. I'll be identichipped or carry an ID card over my dead body. this is back-door fascism and it stinks. Our fathers and grandfathers fought a war against thius sort of thing. if we let this go ahead, we're opening the door wide open to the police state that Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia were. it's already been pushed ajar by the incredibly ironically named "Patriot" Act. Orwell was right, this is 1984 come true
thankfully I'll be dead and gone in 30 years or so.
