hello guys,

Bob knows me from the Wing Commander Saga project.

Anyway, I'm going to start a Wing Commander project and I think we might unite our efforts. I can guarantee supply of 3d models, some of them were made especiall for the WCSaga mod.

I can get my hot little hands on it
The latest beta of VMware workstation will run privateer on my pc
so ive got rough sketches of Penders Star and Junction ready for me to get going on...
Its slow work
But if you can supply data that would be great, it would save me from having to trundle around all 64 systems in Privateer myself
Setting up all of the zones and populating the systems is gonna be a major trauma.
I can post what i have of the Troy system so far if you like, its really sparse, the bases are there, but basically nothing is set in stone, the positioning of the stations needs some fine tuning, populating, stocking with equipment, ships etc.
Random encounters are gonna be another headache...
LOL the list goes on

In regards to penders star, it should be nice and easy, two jumps and a nav point, i think i might try filling it completely with asteroids

Do you know of a nice 'Agricultural' Planetscape in FL for me to use for Helen?
at the moment its a clone of Manhattan :S
And that just doesnt seem right somehow

Edit : I forgot that id updated the nameresource dll for the sytems and the jump at the bottom of that pic is now labeled correctly 'Troy -> Penders Star'

I've been following this discussion with great interest. The WIng Commander games were my favorite games and I would love to see a Privateer MOD. I've been playing around with my own version of Troy. I'd post a screen shot, but every time I try to get one, all I get is crap.

Anyway, anything that I could do to help out, just let me know. I've got Privateer loaded on an older computer, so I can get nav maps without a whole lot of trouble (I just need some time to get out of the Tarsus).

I can help with the mapping of the systems if someone can give me some tips on getting privateer to run on win2k.

Other than that. Great job guys, it's looking good. You should talk to a guy on here named Xerx. He's working on a similar project and seems to be doing pretty well with the commodities. I know zilch about modding tho so I could be wrong

Add the following line to your freelancer.ini file under the

ensure that its the seventh line in the section

Download and extract the Asteroids.zip
to your /DATA/SOLAR/ASTEROIDS/ directory

Download and extract the

Systems.zip

to your /DATA/UNIVERSE/SYSTEMS/ directory

I think thats it... if it doesnt work feel free to curse my name and throw your pc out your window

Appreciate your efforts, Mr. Tolwyn. If you have any good Privateer meshes (i.e., Galaxy, Orion, Gothri) that would be a great help.

I'd always assumed Xerx's mod was a stat tweak ... more focused on the spirit of Privateer than the actual specifics

On the aural front, I've extracted all the sound and music from Priv, so the question is
1) what to do with it
2) finding someone with the massive instrument libraries to convert MIDIs to WAV

as for the music...
there was a post a while back by 'bruchpilot' PRIVATEER 1 i think hes done some of them allready, and still working on the rest

alternatively if you have winamp you could try using the diskwriter plugin that comes with it to try a direct conversion... i know it works for writing mp3 -> .wav , but i dont know if it works on .mid
but that would be a straight conversion in all of its midi err 'brilliance'

Stryfe, thumbs up.

1st of all I think you should use Cambridge as an Agricutlural Planet, as it has pretty much the same purpose in FL, and it looks alot earth-like (its using planet_earth_3000.sph sphere model, i made a planet_earth_4000.sph which has a 4k radius instead of 3k cause one didnt exist, if you want it email me or something).

2nd i got all the privateer MIDIs and I converted them to mp3 and they sound really great, I have the privateer intro playing when you land on Planet Earth in my experimental SOL system (not related to this mod, just some stuff im testing), and the music from New Constantinople when you enter the bar, really nostalgic , so if you need them email me about that too i can post them up somewhere for everyone to download.

Wow, work here is proceeding farther and faster than I'd expected. I feel a bit bad, since I can only really do stats, but I did another hack of the ships tonight. Download http://www.geocities.com/GTVConFlt/shiplist.txt, and rename it to shiplist.ini (GS doesn't allow .inis) and place it in your Freelancer\Data\Ships folder to test. I have't really had the time myself to test it yet. Here's the stats.

*Shield levels are calculated from an overly complicated formula which involves references at http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~hedgehog/, http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php? and s=e20370fee8b1bb1630f64f8abbb6d504&threadid=4067&highlight=privateer. Armor is just adding up all the sides of a ship's armor and adding two zeros at the end (except the Orion; that thing has insane armor)

*Most ships cargo are meant to be the same as their repair bots, unless they have a lot of cargo or only a little cargo, in which case I just made stuff up.
