Why not just add minable areas? Re-creating the game is great, but if you also take advantage of the FL's engine to do stuff... That's even better.

Question: Are we going to have Steltek Weapons? I'd love to get my Centurion decked out with LVL2 Steltek guns...

Stryfe:

I haven't made the lod models yet. Its not a big problem to get them in though.

Centurion has 4 weapon hardpoints, 2 missile/torp/tractor Hps and 1 read turret.
Stannum, what hardpoints are available on the Centurion? i have 4 level 6 guns on it at the moment...

IMO, we should stick to the original ship prices. In privateer it was just a cool happening when you could finally buy a better ship.

I've already done a ****load of stat hacking. I'll post it up in a minute for you lot to look at <G>.

Regarding speeds, I like the really fast cruise engines. It fits with Wing Commander, where ships can open their ramscoops (which scoop up hydrogen fuel from space) to maneuver better, or close them to go faster. I'd keep the trade lanes, though. Useful for navigation.

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 2:40 am

Ah, Privateer...I remeber playing Elite and I liked it so much I got Privateer from Toys R Us.(Only ones that had it for a cheap price) If it were not for Privateer not working on my XP, I would of never heard about Freelancer. I can't wait till I am playing Privateer again with a 10000x better engine, graphics, sound, and tradelanes!

BACKSTORY
---------

The year is 2681. Eleven years has passed since the destruction of the Steltek drone and the death of the Retro movement. Shortly after, the Empire of Kilrah surrendered to the Terran Confederation. But out on the frontiers, in the Border Worlds where policing is scarce, little has changed. Piracy is more widespread than ever, joined by ex-Kilrathi warriors turned raiders. The economy is slowly recovering after three decades of total war. But out on the frontiers, there are a surpluses of brave pilots, and an economic boom that brings dangerous work. Anyone with the right ship and enough guts can make a killing ... or die trying.

Confed
Drastic cutbacks in military spending has forced the once-mighty Confederation Armed Forces to curtail their operations in Gemini. Despite the threat of Kilrathi attack being higher than it has ever been, the only active base in the sector is Perry Naval Station.

Pirates
Years of lax patrolling and focus on the war has stimulated the rise of massive pirate cartels. Despite the best efforts of the militia, the groups are far too well entrenched. The best that can be managed is containment, and with pirate links to military contractors a commonly whispered rumor, their task is only more complicated.

Militia
After the war, the RIF forced many of the Confed's best pilots into civillian life. As celebration turned to confusion, many found solace in the bottle. Others joined sector militias, doing what they do best. These are mostly skilled veterans, older than many of the proper military types, and just as deadly despite their older equipment.

Kilrathi
Once a proud, honorable race, the destruction of their homeworld and death of their empire have relegated the Kilrathi to a race without a home. In the chaos of postwar, prominent clans turned against each other in a bitter fight for superiority. Those lesser hrai who did not have the resources to compete turned to piracy in the border worlds. These Kilrathi have a grudging respect for the humans who bested them, and their mutual hatred of the Confederation has united them in an uneasy alliance with the pirate cartels.

FLYABLE SHIPLIST
----------------
(revised 2003.099, incomplete)

Pirate Talon (replaces Starflier)
This civillian version of the Talon offers decreased protection and a weak loadout in favor of a drastically larger hold. Although a favorite of pirates and other heavily armed organizations, none of them fly a Talon solo.
Speed 80
Aftburn 200
Weapon 4/Lvl8
Shield Lvl3
Hull 3500
Cargo 45
Regen 30
Price 11,000

Tarsus (replacing Liberty Rhino)
The Tarsus was one of the first truly affordable forms of personal interstellar transportation in Gemini. Now manufactured by the Tarsus Corp., this venerable starship has seen a revival in recent years, even being put back into production in 2678. As a fighter it is mediocre, as a transport there are better offerings, but no ship offers the same value-for-money.
Speed 60
Aftburn 120
Weapon 3/Lvl8
Shield Lvl6
Hull 3600
Cargo 150
Regen 35
Price 50,000

Hornet (replacing Civillian Hawk)
The civillian version of the ex-Confed warbird, the Hornet is a placid flyer popularized as a trainer. Its cargo and armament are mediocre, but it is possessed of a fantastic maneuverability that makes it popular among first-time flyers.
Speed 80
Thrust 120
Weapons 4/Lvl8
Armor 1600
Shield Lvl6
Cargo 30
Regen 40
Price 220,000

Hellcat (replacing Civillian Falcoln) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
The mainstay of Confed during the TKW, the Hellcat is now a popular offering among bounty hunters. Unremarkable but dependable, this ship is frequently seen among the rock miners of Fariss.
Speed 84
Thrust 240
Weap 6/Lvl8
Armor 1600
Shield Lvl8
Cargo 35
Regen 45
Price 403,000

Demon (replaces Bounty Hunter Piranha)
This specialty ship was created by bounty hunters, for bounty hunters. Fast, maneuverable, and heavily armed, it is the only ship most professional "cowboys" will fly.
Speed 90
Thrust 240
Weapons 5/Lvl8
Torpedo 1
Hull 4400
Shield Lvl6
Cargo 30
Regen 35
Price 66,000

Centurion (replaces Civillian Eagle)
A favorate among bounty hunters, the Centurion is finally beginning to show its age. Still, its maneuverability and armament, compared with a relatively spacious cargo hold, still make it one of the most sought-after rides in Gemini.
Speed 100
Thrust 200
Weapons 6/Lvl8
Turret 1/Lvl8
Shield Lvl7
Hull 5000
Cargo 50
Price 325,000

Galaxy (replaces Bretonia Clydesdale)
A merchantman first and a fighter second, the Galaxy can still hold its own in a firefight. Her cargo hold is the largest for a ship its size, and it is surprisingly agile as well. The ship's only major fault is its slow top velocity, which often forces a Galaxy to fight where other ships could dart away.
Speed 60
Aftburn 150
Weapons 4/Lvl8
Turret 2/Lvl8
Shield Lvl7
Hull 6250
Cargo 225
Cost 150,000

Orion (replaces Bounty Hunter Hammerhead)
More of a small corvette than a fighter, the Orion is still one of the most heavily armed, armored craft in the border worlds. Its weapons capacity is enormous, and her hull is stronger than most Confed fighters. If there is a downside, it is its sluggish maneuverability, forcing the ship to take most blows on the chin.
Speed 70
Aftburn 160
Weapon 3/Lvl9
Turret 1/Lvl9
Shield Lvl9
Hull 8400
Cargo 75
Cost 75,000

Drayman (replaces Border Worlds Dromedary) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
A large, lumbering space whale, little has changed from the first Drayman models. Although slow and relatively vulnerable, its cargo capacity is unmatched by all except tankers and the heaviest Confed transports. Some independent merchants, disenchanted with its performance, have taken the liberty of outfitting it with multiple gun turrets and Tungsten armor plating. These ships often travel in convoys of up to four freighters, and are a significant threat to any pirate foolhardy enough to tackler them.
Speed 50
Accel 30
Weap 2/Lvl8
Turret 8/Lvl8
Shield Lvl9
Hull 8100
Cargo 750
Regen 70
Price 1,120,900

Razor (replacing Pirate Bloodhound) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
Built almost from scratch by the Martina Nostra clan, the Razor is one of the most commonly seen Pirate light fighters. It sacrifices protection for cargo space, but its oversized engines give it a staggering turn rate.
Speed 110
Thrust 240
Weapons 6/Lvl8
Armor 1600
Shield Lvl6
Cargo 50
Regen 30
Price 11,000

Raptor (replacing Pirate Wolfhound) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
The Raptor was the primary heavy fighter when the Confed first went to war. Nearly forty years later, stripped-down versions are available on the civilian market. As a fighter it offers a massive cargo hold for its size, but its use among pirate clans has somewhat dampened its popularity.
Speed 80
Thrust 160
Weapons 8/Lvl8
Armor 1200
Shield Lvl8
Regen 50
Price 68,000

Talon (replaces Civillian Startracker)
The standard military Talon is a decent compromise between agility and protection, though its firepower leaves something to be desired. Most Militia and InSys officers first learn to fly on a Talon, then graduate to the heavier Gladii and Stilletos.
Speed 80
Aftburn 200
Weap 4/Lvl8
Shield Lvl4
Hull 3500
Cargo 25
Price 31,000

Gladius (replaces Liberty Defender)
Named for the Roman short sword, this fighter is as ubiquitous as that ancient weapon among troops. It offers exceptional speed and maneuverability, but its hull is weaker than even the Stilleto. Its single torpedo launcher is more than enough to balance the odds among elite pilots.
Speed 100
Aftburn 280
Weap 3/Lvl9
Torpedo 1
Shield Lvl5
Hull 3100
Cargo 10
Price 68,000

Stilleto (replaces Liberty Patriot)
The little brother of the Confed Morningstar attack fighter, the Stilleto is a dangerous opponent. It carries more guns and heavier shields than almost any other Militia fighter, and it can literally fly a missile up your tailpipe before you've gotten a visual.
Speed 80
Aft 200
Weap 4/Lvl9
Shield Lvl7
Hull 3200
Cargo 15
Regen 35
Price 94,600

Broadsword (replaces Kusari Drone)
First developed during the Pilgrim War, the Broadsword has been decommisioned from active service but has found a home in the ranks of system militias. It is the largest fighter most regional forces will ever see, and the last many unlucky capital ships will.
Speed 70
Weap 5/Lvl9
Turret 3/Lvl9
Torpedo 2
Shield Lvl9
Hull 8000
Cargo 20
Regen 60
Price 768,000

Banshee (replacing Bretonia Cavalier) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
The darling of the fledgling BWM during the Border Worlds Conflict, the Banshee is a well-loved craft seen often among various private militas. Its maneuverability and defenses are superb for a ship its size, although the price comes at decreased cargo space. Among seasoned pilots, though, there are few who would resist a chance at a ride.
Speed 100
Thrust 260
Weapons 6/Lvl9
Armor 2400
Shield Lvl8
Cargo 25
Regen 45
Price 300,000

Vindicator (replacing Bretonia Crusader) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
Ancient even by war standards, the Vindicator has found a new life in private services. It is a solid, versitile craft that can be counted on to deliver on a variety of missions, from scouting to heavy assault.
Speed 80
Thrust 190
Weapons 6/Lvl9
Turret 1/Lvl9
Torpedo 1
Armor 6
Shield Lvl9
Cargo 45
Regen 50
Price 410,000

Bearcat (replacing Rhineland Banshee) NEED MODEL CONVERTED
Using information gathered from the Excalibur Project, the Bearcat is an amazing tough, maneuverable ship with an enhanced weapon loadout from its predecessors. Seen mainly in Humboldt, it is the darling of the Confed forces that wield it.
Speed 110
Thrust 280
Weapons 4/Lvl9
Armor 6000
Shield Lvl10
Cargo 30
Regen 60
Price 1,584,000

Thunderbolt (replacing Rhineland Valkyrie)
A beloved fighter nearing the end of its operational service life, the "Thud" as it is semi-affectionatly known is a heavy fighter in every respect. Thunderbolts are commonly used as bombers, a role in which they excell.
Speed 76
Thrust 120
Weap 8/Lvl9
Turret 1
Torpedo 1
Armor 4400
Shield Lvl9
Cargo 30
Regen 55
Price 945,000

Paradigm (replaces Liberty Cruiser)
The 'paradigm of Confed destroyer escort design from 2664-69, the Paradigms are rarely seen nowadays. Spread too thin and too far, these ships can often be seen racing up and down prominent trade lanes with token fighter escort in a vain attempt to discourage the growing pirate clans.
Speed 40
Hull 26000
Weap 5/Lvl10
Turret 6/Lvl10
Shield Lvl10
Cargo 70
Price 4,400,000

well Bob, I have most of the models you need. The only problem during the conversion is: most of the models have multiple textures. This means we have to split the mesh into diferent parts and then import 'em into Milkshape.
Besides, Hornet is converted as well as Crossobw. (INI entries are not done yet).

I'll concentrate on working on the website. Tolwyn out.

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 11:20 am

here you go: http://www.scifi3d.de/fl/index.htm
as for me I'll start working on the Vindicator. See ya soon

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 12:58 pm

Excellent
Bob do you have Reshack? Im just asking becuase since your setting up the stats etc you might be the one to tackle the ship info cards, theyre in xml,

ok, Vindicator mesh is finished. Who does the whole INI editing? I have following ships for testing: crossbow, hornet, hellcat v and vindicator.

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 2:19 pm

Hmm with all of this work, and all of this information coming together very fast, I think i see a need for some real-time communication between us.
if ya want me on MSN messenger my email is
[email protected]
We also i think need to get all of our data into a common repository so we can peruse it all at once to 'get the big picture'

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 2:27 pm

this doesn't answer my question I, personally, wait for the Ships Studio, which makes it much easier to apply changes to INI files.

and yeah, we need a separate forum. I could get one for us, if you want. The other problem is FTP.

btw, my mail is: [email protected]
you can also reach me on ICQ: 110922909

Tolwyn :

If you have the ships mesh, texture etc all set up, take a squiz @ Bobs list and see if you can work from it, it has the basics there for it ( I'm not too sure )

At the moment everyone is still working on everything independantly, with the common goal being the mod as a whole,

So thats why i thought we needed to get some 'face' time so we can just discuss the whole lot as it comes to mind...

I dunno if this post is any help either .(
FTP? whats the problem with it?
