I like it--as long as it remains me and stormtrooper vs. Codename. Anyone else added in and I don't think I'll like it so much anymore...

No an equal force may well consist of slightly more house ships than pirate ships, plus you'd inevitably encounter a battleship and then you'd be in trouble. But the fact is, this game always always will end up being stacked in favour of the houses at the beginning and whoever kisses their ass if we don't try and develop a system. As for not being a pirate anymore.

Doesn't it strike you as slightly odd that after centuries of conflict between the pirate groups and the houses, they suddenly come together? People should start actually playing the roles to a degree in regards to the factions they selected. Part of good roleplaying is often putting your own self interests below that of the rest of the game. And what we want in this game is to achieve a balance. As long as the classic pile on of all factions possible to houses, houses annex corporations, houses form massive unbeatable alliance, then slowly peel off one faction at a time exists, it was pretty much sheer luck we avoided that last game. This game might as well be a fan fiction. But if we make an effort to try and RP this well, it will be the best CYOF to date. Otherwise there will be a few huge and quick wars and the game will be over.

@ VD: Considering we own the Sigma's I don't think that trade will work.

@ Codename: Thanks for the support I agree with you along the Xenos-Daumann lines, but instead of making a Xenos an NPC lets give it to Stormtrooper since he started with the least. Make Xenos and Bundusch an alliance to help him out.

One more thing chess, pirates aren't always underequipped, the Outcasts, Hessians, and Corsairs in the game were the best equipped forces. Pirate craft at all levels were better then the equivalent legit craft you brought. (this isn't to start an VHF arguement again, but there was a reason that the titan and sabre cost the most)

Another benefit of a more lax arms race is a increase of market for trade. People should trade what the lack in, just for the sake of doing it, when it comes to extra money. Corporations instead of building fleets could build trains and transports. We could say have a reward for profitable corporation. This would let all three faction types fulfill their role.

Yeah. (I've changed my opinion on Titans, btw. I really like them now)

Another thing--don't dissolve the league. If you don't want to get involved with Rhineland, that's alright, but we are a functioning threat and body of power in Sirius. Why do you think Codename got so worked up about us forming the league? because we are powerful and a threat. I know with the new battle system it's not necessary, but still, we strike fear into the hearts of every legit faction operating.

Look at it this way--now no ship dares enter into the Omegas or Sigmas unless they are friendly with the League. Why break that monopoly into smaller factions?

@ Jacob: is the grace period extended up to and INCLUDING December 26th, or is that the first day we can attack?

I don't like it. I like Jacobs way better. It just sounds too complicated. Unless someone breaks it down for me.

All right, if you choose to do a hit and fade attack. It isn't a battle to the death. Its a battle for x number of turns. This would be done to slowly wear down a base instead of overrunning it.

For example before you say:

I attack with x number of LF Fighters Freeport 4

In this you say I attack with x number of LF Fighter Freeport 4 for 4 combat turns

You don't take the station but you kill ships. It lets people have a chance to survive. I won't lie, this degrades the dominance of the house in the game. But it lets pirates actually act like pirates and corporations to act like corporations. In other words its an actual roleplay instead of a statistics game.

*spoiler*

Let me give you this analogy to why this is better, Freelancer you fight the Nomads and Rheinland gradually with your band of heros. Well wouldn't from a military sense, it be better for them to throw everything they had at the Osiris in one battle and wipe the Order out. But that would be a pretty dumb game. Its the same way in this. House leaders should play their role as house leaders not all wanna be Napoleons out for galactic domination. Corporations and Pirates should not be mini-houses, but allowed to do what they do, trade and steal. The military juggernaut at the moment is the only angle people can play right now. The way I propose you can actually ROLE play.

While all that is fine and dandy, what makes you think Jacob will aggree to it. He made that battle system for a reason

Thing is, the hit-and-fade system doesn't change the battle system; it expands the battle system. We're all able to behave in ways that are more accurate to our factions.

Post Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:29 pm

1. What makes you think the bounty hunters are weak. The corsairs and outcasts are fighting major multifronted wars. No houses tradelanes are what I call secure from criminals so that doesn't speak much about them either.

2. If your so resistant to actually playing the role of a pirate. If you didn't want to be a pirate why did you select it. Just become head of Daumann, you can fufill your corporate sychophantic goals their. What goals? Domination of all of Siruis. Last game ended without a single PvP battle being judged because these huge battles create nothing but objections. When people have only in mind their ultimate goals, they miss the vital roleplaying aspect.

Post Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:33 pm

Now, now, lets keep this civil, people.

@ Chess - No one's saying you did the wrong thing. I sure as hell am glad you decied to takeover/become Daumann. Now we just need to move to the logical conclusion. You either integrate fully into Daumann and give up the Xeno bases or revert to being the Xenos. Your choice. (Though I would suggest you stay as Daumann. )

First off its not just me, currently we have at least 3 behind my proposal you have two. Roc I'm guessing would probably prefer my proposal as well. No actual rule is changing just one way of doing battles is added on. The system isn't mandatory its merely encouraged. If you want to launch your nice oh so fun single battle wars if you want. Since I'm the one who's going to be judging most of the battles it is going to help me.

The only possible objection I can think of. Is if some people have dreams of a super alliance that they think automatically lets them win the game.

Post Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:38 pm

And, admittedly, those things are silly. Alliances are good. Uber Mega Death Alliances of Destruction and Doom can suck the fun out of the game pretty fast.

Post Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:42 pm

I said I would dissolve the League. Yes outlaws allied at the beginning, but we sure as hell needed to be a lot more than the houses. If you want to attack corsair strike force that is in Xenos's turf do so. I won't hold it against you. I may start raiding you also. But I wouldn't wipe you out.

Chess look I speak from experiance. Major alliances only gain one thing, a standoff of word trading. If you want one ally go for it. But having two camps helps no one. Xenos as I recall is an organized crime syndicate, its not after legitmacy anyways.
