could you program the AI to send out "raiding parties" of a sort to go and invade liberty space, etc? Planet Manhatten: ATTACK!

In a word: yes. As to how... basically, you can program a zone to have an Encounter that has a low probability of of occuring, causes the spawned objects to target selectively (say, Transports first, Freighters second, Fighters third, Stations fourth, etc.) and spawns a large number of the ships, using custom Formations that cause the "swarms" to use interesting swarm formations.

So, yes, it can be done. Easy? If you're using Toolkit as a base, yes. I could probably code up something like this in Toolkit in an hour or two.

Here is one I have been working on. I'm almost done with it. Just gotta finish the textures and add the hardpoints.
What I would like to do is make the pods at the bottom detachable and have others for sale in the game. I haven't had much luck coding this. If anyone would like to give it a try please let me know. I know it's been done before with the in game cargo crates. The idea is to have the pods as a new commodity such as 500 MOX per pod, and make it only purchaseable if you have the ship that can mount the pods. I don't see any way of doing it in the freelancer engine but maybe someone else knows a way. Let me know if you have any Ideas or need the model to try it out.

wow cool can't wait for the mods
i know i said i was going to take a break from modeling but i'm on vacation and board so here's one i made today it's a cargo ship perspective view
full side view ignore the colors that was just to help me keep some small details seperate

Now that's not bad at all. I could see this being a series type ship. You could have just the ship with no pod, with one pod, with two pods, and heck make a square one and do a train thing.

All it needs is a descent skin and it would be a really nice ship.

skin granted it's not the best and it needs some fine tuning that i'm just to tired (it's 10:56 pm as i type) to do right now but let me know what you think i'll post a revised version after i tend to the livestock tomorrow

Looking pretty good. I did notice that red line crossing the grey. It might not show up in the game but just for precaution you should select the verticles that are close together there and choose "snap together" then "weld verticles". this might help to get rid of that little line. Other that that it looks to be coming along quite nicely. As for the livestock, I don't know if you were joking or not but I grew up that way and I know exactly what you mean. I use to get up at the but crack of dawn and do about 1 1/2 hours worth of chores before eating breakfast and getting ready for grade school. That's some way to live but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

no joke, five beef cows and thirteen chickins but this farm dosen't operate like that only my mom gets up that early unless we have work then it's five thirty for me (she drives a school bus i watch the kids annoying brats, )

back on topic that red line is part of the windscreen it's not lined up right i'll bump it around a little later when i have time i've got to go spread cow manure now

I'm working on new Faction sets for the Toolkit Mod, to fill out all of the empty spaces and boring, same-old-ships-I-blew-up-yesterday problems with FL... without just adding random ships that aren't in sets, like most mods have been doing. This is the Light Fighter of the Red Hessians set. Check out that polycount

Sweeeet. The intakes and exhaust line up really nice. You left just enough room to add some grates inside the intakes. Can't wait to see the finished product.

i wouldn't mind flying that one around
i did some revising on my cargo ship and moved the cargo pods off the back that line disapeared when i welded the red glass to the nose cone this ship would be cool in game to replace the small train as npc and be buyable anyway heres the link

Here is one I just finished up. I'm really proud of this one. It is based on an earlier model I made but was too high poly to use it in freelancer. It went from over 15000 faces to just over 1000 without losing the sleek look. The model had to basically be redone from the ground up. It was well worth it.
