That's actually not the most recent version of the map... look to http://www.wcnews.com/loaf/wcumap5.png

And I'm currently importing the icons into the game Kind of time-consuming, but at least it's something different

sp00n:
THAT's the sucker that messed up my computer!

Update:
Quite by accident, I've installed a bug detector in the game.
For some unknown reason, every time I encounter a bug, the planets stop spinning!
And I think I may have fixed the Tau 23 bug, but I have some more testing to do.

If I don't have any more bugs, I'm going to try and get the Gemini Sector into the mod.
(Since Tolwyn wants me to wait until next week, anyway.)

damn, i #%§x'#* want to play this in multiplayer. NOW!

grmpf. ive just started playing FL again, and i just imagined how great it would be with this mod

sp00n:
It IS fun to play!

Bob McDob/Tolwyn:
Took a break, and tried adding the Cutlass.
No go!
Boots to Desktop every time!
Never even get to see it.

Also,
Can someone redo the exhausts on the Stiletto, from your old mod?
One of the exhausts is in the left wing tip, and not on the right engine.
And is there a better MAT file for the Gothri and Gladius?

Update:
Tau 23 bug is still eluding me!
It's something so tiny, it's not showing up in FLspew, or in the FL editor.

Does anyone have a list of bases that are planets?

IIRC, Refineries and mining bases are on asteroids, right?

(I'm putting together some systems when I get frustrated looking for bugs.)

@Warzog, when I posted the Banshee as a possibility I was referring to your line in your post:

-----1)Border Worlds fly the Dagger & Vindicator.
Why not have a Border Worlds fighter (which is already finished) included in the Border Worlds region?

Fine.
I keep forgetting...
It's not a Privateer mod...
It's a Wing Commander mod.

Sir Spectre: because we're not doing the Border Worlds region? While I'm not necessarily against importing the Banshee into this release, I don't really care to see ships flying around where they shouldn't be. If and when we do Gemini, they're definetly not going to be in plain sight - maybe as easter eggs or something.

edit: aaand dead.wav is up (which, unsurprisingly, is the bit from Privateer where you die). Props to Mad Hatter for rendering it out - he says he has a few more he'd like to do and's uploading to the CIC.

Also, Stannum finally uploaded his models. The Galaxy looks fantastic, but it's only partially textured, and the Orion isn't really textured at all. The Tarsus is missing from this release, he says he'll do it when he finds more reference pics.

Off the top of LancersReactors here's a list of all the planets:

Planet California Minor
Planet Los Angeles
Planet Cambridge - Oxford
Planet Denver
Planet Curacao - Pleasure Planet
Planet Holstein
Planet Hamburg
Planet Honshu
Planet Kyushu - try for Agri
Planet Leeds
Planet New Berlin
Planet New Tokyo
Planet New London - good New Detroit
Planet Manhattan
Planet Pittsburgh
Planet Malta
Planet Crete
Planet Baden-Baden - Pleasure 2
Planet Stuttgart - Agri 2
Planet Harris

Post Fri Feb 13, 2004 8:15 pm

Bob!!!!!!
Why would I want to know those?
I was referring to the Gemini Sector that we've been discussing.
A list would be easier than trying to outrun retros, pirates, kilrathi, militia, and avoiding asteroids in an attempt to find them in the game.

Also...
I requested permission to use the Banshee in our mod.
(At least, until the Gemini Sector is done.)

Also...
Could you resize that Paradigm?

And 1 more thing...
I'm doing 2 mods, now:
1) Privateer: The Reckoning mod-this version.
2) A Privateer's Privateer mod-Privateer ONLY ships.

They're basically the same, just NO Wing Commander junk in the second one.
(The 2nd one is mainly for me.)

Eh, I figured you wanted a list of possible stand-ins for Privateer locations. The bases are listed in the maps, here's a list of the planets:

Bodensee - Agricultural
Burton - Agricultural
Edom - Agricultural
Elysia - Agricultural
Erewhon - Pleasure
Helen - Agriculture
Heimdel - Agricultural
Jolson - Pleasure
Magdaline - Pleasure
Matahari - Pleasure
N-1912-1 - Pleasure
New Detroit
New Iberia - Agricultural
New Reno - Pleasure
Nitir - Agricultural
Olympus - Pleasure
Oresville - Agricultural
Palan - Agricultural
Rodin - Agricultural
Siva - Agricultural
Speke - Pleasure
Surtur - Agricultural
Trinsic - Agricultural
Victoria - Agricultural

The maps aren't totally complete, but this should be most of them.

I'll try to get the Paradigm and Stilleto done. Regarding .mats, sadly I don't have any answers - most of the textures were placeholders for such a time until better ones could be obtained. I've been asking Tolwyn to send the WCS ones (which are really quite nice, even if they aren't done in the Privateer style) but he's busy at the moment.

@Warzog along with Tolwyn & Bob McDob, I can easily see your deep love of Privateer and I share your enthusiasm for it. I still play it to this very day and the first discussion I ever joined on Lancers Reactor was a "Freelancer vs. Privateer" thread. I am so enthralled by a game that was on the forefront of its time and is exceeded by none in its fun and enjoyment!

To recreate that is an admirable goal for which everone of us here at TLR will be grateful, me above all others. You are accomplishing something I cannot at this time. So my expectations of a truly great Privateer mod lies in your hands and I have the utmost respect for that.

I have added my support and what little help I can. But I also come from a wary position knowing two games are about to be combined into one. Freelancer is a huge, enormous game which its shear content looms over the tiny Gemini sector in many ways. I fear that a mere recreation of only the Gemini sector might make your mod feel a bit small in comparison to the massive Sirius Sector. As shown by the pictures that sp00n and Bob linked, there is a much larger universe than just the Gemini Sector. And they're all connected.

Replicate the Gemini Sector exactly, no alterations, no changes from Chris Roberts' first endeavor. I completely agree with that. But don't limit the mod to just that one sector, realize that you have the opportunity to expand on what Privateer was and take the Privateer/WC universe to a level Origin and Chris Roberts never could. In the Gemini sector there will not be Border World ships, but with this Freelancer game engine a player could go to the Border Worlds and there should be those ships.

None of the Privateer or WC games had the freedom to see everything in the creators minds nor where the other games took place. You have the tremendous opportunity to exceed the creators of your favourite game instead of just copying one portion of their creativity. All the pieces from all the games can fit together seamlessly into one package like never before possible. And the Gemini Sector can be as unique a Privateer experience from the Border Worlds, or Vega as Liberty space is unique from Bretonia or Kusari or Rheinland.

You don't have to complete it all at once, but know this: you have the possibility to accomplish something, not just great, but ... unparalelled to any other mod and certainly reaching a height that far exceeds the original Wing Commanders and Privateers in scope and breadth.

Lofty goals, I know, and you do spend your free time on this, I understand. I can see the frustration in some of your posts, what I have offered as advice was never meant to intrude on the first goal of recreating the Gemini Sector, but to add hope and persuasion that it can be so much more than that.

Thank you for your hard work. I know I'll be enjoying the fruits of your passion soon, along with many who visit this site.

Bob:
Thanx!
All of the planets are in Solar.ini, so I can pick and choose what size, color, shape, texture, etc, that I want.
I just needed to know which bases were planets.
BTW-the refineries were by themselves, and the mining bases were attached to asteroids, right?

I've gone through the existing FL systems, and I've chosen about a dozen or so system.ini's that are very small (kb wise-the ones with a map_scale in universe.ini) and yet have patrols, asteroids, bases, jumpholes/gates that would be very easy to mod, and make for a smaller up/download.
Since most of the Privateer's Gemini Sector's Systems have Asteroids, I figure it'll be easier to modify ones that already do.
And none of Privateer's Systems had a Sun. Should I delete them? Or keep them?
Also, the Privateer systems were all very dark. Do the same, or add color/light?
(with Tolwyn's skins, I'd add color, and some light)

Sir Spectre:
Thanx!
It's nice to hear encouraging words.
However, I must correct an error in your post:

Freelancer is a huge, enormous game which its shear content looms over the tiny Gemini sector in many ways. I fear that a mere recreation of only the Gemini sector might make your mod feel a bit small in comparison to the massive Sirius Sector.

That MASSIVE Sirius Sector ONLY has 47 systems.
That TINY Gemini Sector has 70 systems.
And while the Sirius Sector is sprawled out, it's a pretty much linear place.
(There's only 8 dead-end systems in it, all but 1 of which can only be reached during a mission.)
The Gemini Sector is a cobweb of inter-connecting systems, and there are 17 dead-end systems in it.

I think the main reason that you FEEL that Sirius is larger is because there's more IN each system, a feature I desire to incorporate into this mod.

@Warzog, I am speaking of thruster capabilities for the size of the systems. I could thruster across an average Gemini sector system in 2 minutes. It takes me 8 to 10 minutes (Cruise speed) in Freelancer (thruster 20-30 minutes). You could probably fit 4 Privateer systems into one Freelancer system, remove any non-story trade lanes and set up inter system jumpholes to recreate those Gemini systems that only had two jumpholes and an asteroid field (Pender's Star).

To recreate Pender's Star as it's own system would seem to be a waste I think. And the best part of Privateer was feeling like you're always on the frontier, hence no tradelanes. So you need the jumps closer to your routes and destinations, thus leaving lots of open space (in a Freelancer size system).

In that extra space fit in other systems, as long as the open space distances between Privateer systems within the 1 Freelancer system is really enormous, most people would want to take the intersystem jumphole.

But that is only my thoughts on a way to accomplish it. You're probably already locked into how you're doing it.
