Well, I would, Stinger, but I can't stop playing long enough to paste a billion rows of smilies.

Just got done playing the demo for about 3 hrs

Good:
- Mouse control is great!
- The info you can get on the fly through your map is very nice.
- Attention to detail...
ex1: Got a little to close to the sun and you start to get effected by the corona.
ex2: Police checking ships and comm chatter between ships.
ex3: Weapons fire looks fantastic!
- Nebulas/junkyards look nice and fun to navigate when going fast specially the badlands.
- Character animations look nice.. gotta love the female LT .
- Menus are layed out well and there are always descriptions on mouse overs

Neutral:
- I know its a demo but it damn sure costs a lot to fix that rep
- Would be nice to expand onto your holds... kinda like IWAR2.
- Some of the background gfx in the stations/bars look a little dated. I maxed out all the options on my 9700Pro and it didn't shape it up. (But i'm being picky)

Bad: (I know a lot of this is happening because of your rep)
- I love combat so I am not complaining. But for the people that don't love too... You get attacked an awful lot. I have to admit freelancer looks very nice and I just wanted to soak it in and explore a little. Those dame ROGUES!
- Some of the lines the NPC's use get a little old.
- I don't know if I was using it wrong or just never had the right ships or structures selected but... (p) Hailing. Didn't seem to work???

This demo is very nice and I don't plan to go home after work on the 4th until I have my copy. Guess my wife won't have a husband for a bit... she'll have a freelancer Yeah!

Oh and if you talk to the right people... they will give ya the location to a lost liberty patrol Little hint its in the badlands!

For those people who really know the game or are playing the gold cd's I have a few questions:

- Is there any devices you can purchase for the ship to bring down your radar signature?
- I know we can tractor in cargo and ship items. Can we tow or tractor in people as well?
- And will we find any places in the universe to explore where there isn't a lot of people shooting at you?

Ok message is long enough back to playing FL!!!!!!!!

There's something more in the badlands... so keep looking.

I've played the demo for about 6 hours now and i think i have pretty much discovered most if not anything that was to find (most of the time i was exploring). Now i long to get into the other 50 systems to earn more money and to fix my rep with those freakin' rogues.

I have to admit that the tradelanes are pretty save so there is not that much combat but i would have liked if exploring wouldn't be a battle fest as well. And here's a question for Freelancer veterans: are debris fields, asteroid fields and nebulae in every system hideouts for outlaws and other scum or will there actually be some more relaxed exploring opportunities?

The Demo kick ass, very smooth with everthing turned up 1600x1200 32bit. It swithes back to desktop very cleanly.

I've been bounty hunting and cruising around awile just picking up stuff from roques. Recently I decided to do a little trading. There's a problem with the demo that I hope is not in the retail version. It's not a big deal. When I buy items from Pittsburgh and I max out the quantity and hit buy, the game kicks me out to the exit screen, then back to desktop.

Next time I just bought a few at a time until I had max quantity. Took payload to Fort Bush, maxed quantity to sell then hit sell. Kicked me back to exit screen and to desktop.

I'll be checking for this in the retail, and sending a bug report if it happens.

I just won't be maxing out quantity with the scroll bar now.

This is just a BAD experience I've been having (only twice).

UPDATE: My mistake. I read a thread that the demo quits before reaching Level 2. That is what happened. Starting a new game.

I played for about 4 hours last night and I am thoroughly impressed, I had to take a step back to start with as I know so much about this game. So I looked at it as a person who had never seen or heard of FL before and then came to the realisation that those people are going to be blown away by this game.

The mouse control is certainly a novel way to do combat and I find it a lot more difficult than using a joystick but it's also a lot of fun. It's certainly a new skill i'll have to aquire.
I can see what you guys were saying about 3rd person, life is a lot easier in that view, though I do find myself skipping back and forth. Im still not quite sure which one i'll stick to.

The one thing that really bugged me (and there may be a way to do it) but I had to sell weapons and then buy them back at an inflated rate to get them fitted to my ship. Is this how it is or am I missing something???

There's a small little square in the upper left corner of the picture showing what weapon is fitted into your hardpoint. Click that, and it'll free up the hardpoint. Then find the weapon you want to put it, and click the square on that.

@Mustang
Try pressing the yellow thingy in the upper left corner of ur weapon icons. This activates them (if there's a place they fit in )

Edit: Ya, Bhurak, that's exactly how it works (*wipestearsoutofhiseyescozAGAINsomeone'sbeenfaster*)

Thanks go to Mad Dog for hosting this pic!

DarkOne,
You can tractor in people in life pods,,,it will come in handy in some missions

The "estimated" waiting time was about 40 mins...but it was more like 1hr 40mins. Not only that, but early in the download, my computer started acting all funny and I had to restart it...only to be put back in the queue again. It was gratifying when I finally got it.

The graphics look pretty good, but at first they didn't seem quite right. I think it's because the textures are "washed out" or something. (it was on 1024*768*32) I hope it's just like the UT2k3 demo where the the texture quality was reduced to minimise the demo size.

From what I've seen, it looks and feels like DA have done EVERYTHING to make the controls/interface as simple and user friendly as possible. When I first activated the "free flight" mode, it seemed a little difficult to handle, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

To summarize...it looks like FL really does meet most, if not all my expectations. I was going to put off buying it until I got my new computer...but it plays just fine on this one, even on highest settings. So now I'm thinking of pre-ordering it.

Finally, thanks DA for bringing us such a great, well made game.
