From what I have gathered from the local Babbages they received an e-mail from Corporate yesterday indicating that the FL Beta was for "Employees ONLY" and not to distribute to customers. He also indicated that he had 10 copies but not a single person on the staff was interested in giving it a try.

Arcane- I heard the same thing at my EB. I'm pretty good friends with one of the guys that works there, and of course tried to hit him up for the Demo. Apparently, as you said, its just for employees only, and the word from the manager is that he can't give out copies because of the fear that this will spread everywhere on the net. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it would make sense. Oh well, I've resigned myself to the wait too, maybe actually manage to get some work done before it comes out and I disappear for days on end.

I don't know. If they have been handing out full copies that were all meant to be tested by employees then I do beleive I will laugh uncontrolably for days on end.

If that is the case then I bet it is closer to retail version than we think.

I got lucky and got a Marketing Beta from Gamestop. So far the game has lived to expectations. I havent seen any bugs yet. So its pretty close to the Gold Version. I think the only letdown is that jobs for a particular class say Bounty Hunter are pretty generic. The only twists come from the Single Player. I dont even know if its worth it to buy the Gold Version. Since for $5 I get a stable version. The game content is complete. I think Microsoft made a blunder by distributing these disks and the lack of communication between Retail stores will defeinitely hurt the sales. Sad.

The Gamestop in the local Mall didn't have it...or at least I was told they didn't know what I was talking about.

I'm not sure what some of you here are all upset about if this demo gets downloaded. Anyone who is going to buy the game has either already bought it or won't settle for this demo as the "real thing". Anyone who will get this demo with no intention of buying the game will download a copy of the retail verson soon after it's released. I loath people that do this, but nothing is going to change the fact that basicly they have no morals and use the excuse that they don't have the money as an excuse. I've had the game on order for several months and I would llke to obtain this demo (that others obviously have). Do I have to stoop to going to the pirates to get it? We'll see.

That PERFECTLY sums up how I am feeling right now.
I have been planning on buying this game for well over a year.
Now just because there are no software stores within 2 hours of my house I "am not entitled" to play this "Marketing Demo" that "city-dwellers" have access to.

It's a real shame when you are given a choice of siding wih criminals, or going without...but in my case I am, for the first time ever, leaning towards siding with the criminals. lol!

The funny thing is that after I mentioned about copies on Kazza in my earlier post I looked online...found a copy within minutes.
But, I have been refusing to download it.
But, then again, with every person that I see posting here about the "market beta", and how great it is, and all that...it is just pushing me.

Oh well, I am playing "P2: The Darkening"...back to the cockpit for me.

Later,

PD

This pisses me off.

Here you have a game that many of us have been waiting for for many years. Now some of you have played it and can easily say, "oh just wait a few more weeks" and then some of you have more patience and can wait but myself, no. To me this is another example of a gaming company (points finger more at MS than DA) pissing on it's fans. Why the **** would you only give a demo out to employees of a software store where maybe a dozen or so employees have been waiting for this game or even know anything about this game.

Here's to hoping it gets put up for d/l.

Uhhh, most of us arean't going to be playing the storyline missions, just the multiplayer really...there's a disclaimer in the packet that came with it that says you can't go beyond a certain point...so what's the point... as for the multiplayer side it's nice definately and I feel your pain...I was searching around and just barely found one in my area...but this isn't really DA or Microsoft pissing on their customers...it was probably getting the marketing demo out to the retailers to get them excited about selling it. That's all...

Now the game is beautiful and is worth the wait, but if you do get it..like I said I would stay in the multiplayer region...save the story that won't be full of bugs until the gone gold version...

**I take that back, not full of bugs...only a hundred or so (Is that the right amount mods?)**

My 2 cents...

It's not a matter of SP or MP, it's just being able to play the damn game. Giving the option of 'getting an early feel of the game' to the retailers rather than the fans makes me feel like I'm being pissed on.

Post Sun Feb 16, 2003 7:58 am

Yeah that is kinda weird. Why would the publisher release betas to Retail store emplyees? Unless the stores made a mistake by releasing them to the public and to cover up, released a cover story. Whatever it is, it hurt sales. Some people wont buy the full game, and just play the game without SP or MP. Fact is most people play SP. Bah, I have the beta and I am enjoying myself.

This is exactly what ive been saying 3 pages ago! Thx for finally realizing the problem of this.

OK, I'm confused. The whole Marketing Beta thing has been a screw up? It was never meant to be released to pre order people?

Someone mentioned that it only goes to a certain point, does anyone know how far it will let you go before it stops? It did a full install of close to 1 gig so it seems like the whole game is there.

Post Sun Feb 16, 2003 8:46 am

I still think it's good people are playing the game, regardless of how it's obtained. When the gold hits the shelves, most people playing it now will get it because they don't want to miss out on experiencing my wit and humor in MP.

I'm taking reservations now for tours of the borderworlds. They are simply remarkable to see.

There must be something going on. I wish we could figure out whether there has been a screw-up in Software retailers releasing the copy or whther this is a planned event.

I don't know. I have to say that I'm a patient person and not having the game right now is good for work/life/heightening anticipation. But since there is this Beta release out I wish Microsoft would just make it available as a demo, with some sort of restriction, as opposed to having rumors and backhanded ways of trying to find the game.

Sigh....19 days and counting.
