Over 2 years ago I was at Wal-Mart looking at the different games they had, and just happened to notice the box so I picked it up and turned it over Hmmm Hero, Pirate, Merchant, Smuggler, You Decide. Great I thought so I read the rest of the box found that it was open ended bought it took it home and it has been the hard drive of my computer since. I paid $20+tax for it then and I am glad I did; I have had hours of play, and years of fun with this one game.
after buying a new computer, I returned my old celeron 2.0 to near-stock as a home-theater PC. (I got a deal on an xga projector around the same time) It didn't take long for me to wonder what games it would play, so I hopped on IGN and started looking up ______-of-the-years from back when the old girl was new. Freelancer was the only one that didn't make it to xbox and it sounded like fun on top of it.
long story short, I fell in love with it, bought the full version off ebay for just $10. followed by just about the best video card PCI can support for a whopping $35. and just last night I got it one of those gyro-mice. So far my "home theatre PC" has basically been a freelancer box.
freelancer converted me back from the console world close to 10 years after I swore off PC gaming. But why didn't freelancer make it to Xbox?

It's a while since I last posted here.
As a fan of Wing Commander. It was natural to move on to Starlancer and later Freelancer. I never quite liked Starlancer, though Freelancer was very good.

Back when the game just came out, my dad was reading the newspaper. And he showed me this article talking about Freelancer. And that article gave out a place where I could download the demo of Freelancer. So I downloaded it, and started to play. Holy crap, this game was much better than I thought it would be. After seeing screenshots, and reviews on the game I bought it to access the rest of the areas and ships. I probally never would have known about this game otherwise.

i first heard of it when i was reading a pc game magazine which had a section on modding. it was featuring freelancer in this issue and it had stuff like the next generation, rebalance and starwars ship pack in it. i got the xplosiv range version and was hooked on single play from the word go. a whole galaxy to play with? too cool! however, soon my attention span faded and i moved on to online stuff like halo. (love that game too) however, after finding almost all halo servers empty on a sick day, i booted up freelancer, and for the first time since i got it, got multiplayer working. within minutes i was in space heaven. i don't know if its possible to be addicted to something twice, but freelancer is pretty near that.
I was wroking Graveyard. The Swing guy I releaved and I both were into Star wars and computers.. so we talked a lot about it.
Then one day he asks me if Ive ever played the Freelancer game? I tell him never heard of it so he describes it.. Burns me a copy of his (Yup I wasa bad boy, but it didnt work)
I ran out and bought it the next payday and been hooked ever since..

A few years ago (it seems) I was playing a game called Sabre Wing 2 (a pc game bundled with hp products at the time). At that point I was already hooked on Space Sim games. So I went out looking and eventually found Tachyon: The Fringe. As a sweet package deal, I was offered Freelancer as part of the package at a reduced cost. I played Tachyon until I became frustrated with it and took a break for a couple of months, but then decided to try out Freelancer.
To say the least, I was IMPRESSED!
Needless to say, I WAS HOOKED.
I took a few days to play through the story line but gained great satisfaction knowning I actually beat the odds. It was a good feeling that I had friendly wingmen on my side. Then the open ended way the game allowed me to continue exploring and discovering things I hadn't thought of.
It's been a few years now since I first played it, but I've lost count of how many times I've played it. Going on-line for Multiplayer gave me a whole new sense of the game.
After all that, I became a member of a community of excellent people who loved the game as well as had a large contengient of modders and modelers. I was inspired to be creative and learned to model ships and became pretty good at it in a very short time. But, that wasn't enough. I wanted to do more. I began learning how to change the face of Freelancer in ways that added depth and scope to this aging game..effectively giving it new life.
I'm heavy into modding it now and still work in modeling.
I'm still working on a major conversion mod that I know sooner or later I'm going to need help with. But I've come a long way with it.
Since I began modding this game, I've discovered a virtual treasure chest of things that DA didn't have the time to incorporate into the original game. This gave rise to the sordid possibilities I could use to re-build Freelancer to the state I have it now.
I just wish I could upload my present works to this site for others to take a look at and try out. I am sure, most would agree that this is a unique conversion that attempts to pick up where the story ended.
In part, where the nomads have made a come-back, but this time with their mother ship.

I heard about it in development and liked the sound of the freeform dynamic universe. I played Elite many years ago and like space sims in general.
I remember being annoyed that in the UK we had to wait for a month before getting the game after it was released in the U.S. and I also remember being scared witless when I played the demo.
Very cool.
I played the game a loot and still enjoy playing it, but sadly its day has been and gone and nothing else out there quite offers the multiplayer experience and easy playing style that FL did.
