Why dont WE make a freelancer 2?
This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!
Well it will be new universe as time changing things. Well i just using the same docking ring, planets, universe and just make tons new addon (like; new base textures, planet textures, new ships, new base sort but heavy delay on new base meshes.) and change the coordinates of everythings. So is like completly new.. FL things just all "flat". Mine version would be real space. So every planets, sun, bases, and more would might be up and down.. Erm i cant explain that well but you might understand the point. Those system requirements are the minimun of running my version smoothly. Well, is not finalized yet so might change. I currently...... lazy to work on more, coz took too much time. I will work soon, so LESS TIME FOR ME! Dammit!
EDIT: If only someone can donate money and supports my living cost and i able to work on until finished xD

If it's a race that is similar animal(as for aliens with animal related characteristics, I dunno), it might be a bit unrealistic

A good example might be the Phinons from Dykstra's War- a purely operant intelligence that evolves no tech of their own, they pirate it from the civilizations they destroy. I think the psychology behind the intelligence would be the key to keeping it from being another ' gorilla suit with a diver's helmet' type of alien

Briefs on Freelancer: The Next-GEN
The Spacecrafts:
- New spacecrafts you can fly, all have new mounting points up to 17 gun mounts is possible. All new looks as promised it will be real Next-GEN!
- Some rare spacecrafts is not sold at anywhere. You can aqquired from "SOMEWHERE" (exp; abadon base or wrecked battleship in warfield sort). And can only aquired
once in your life-time.
The WarField Equippments:
- New weapons promised to have real-life reaction/effect looks. Shield projection will have new reaction/effect as well as missles and topedos.
The Universe:
- Complete new universe for you to explore, hunt rare/top-ended enemies for a rare drop, search for high-end tresures.
- New universe is promised to be xXx-LARGE. As each system will be 1.5-10.0x times larger than Freelancer's New York system. And hell lot of things to discover.
* Each system solar will be scripted; like a square box with scaled large size in a system to see all things in space are not "Flat". Which bring things more realistic.
The Houses:
- New universe, weak houses got dispatched by other. New houses born, fallen houses reborn for revenge. Organizations has made changes to thier mind.
- All houses have thier own new ships/weapons invation. Deal with em and try em out.
The Story:
- The universe is changed by time to time, and will be told why the universe is changed. Story missions is planned. As the Nomad's innovation of intrusion. (Mission scripting need to be studied before confirm.)
The Info:
- All ships, bases, jumpgates, rumors, weapons will have new info. And promised to be real staticsfaction info. (Doesn't include commodities)
The Unchangeable:
- Sorry to say there's no way to create new character and sequel at the moment. But in space sequel seems possible.
The GameEngine:
- From the original Freelancer game. There's would be some normal ASCII changes.
The Sounds:
- All new music on each system, including bar, combat, there will be some slight changes to some guns projectail sound. All music files will convert to slight higher quality and file size as small as possible to save space.
*Note all above not finalized yet. There will be addon or removal. That's pretty all my basic briefs.

The Flight Engine: It should have the ability to fly yo ship with a pure twitched based method in first person just like starlancer. However, I would highly recommend you take a look at this flight engine(and download the demo) and see if you can mimic it.
Once I get my rotation system working, I'll help out a little.

LOL i owned StarShatter in full version. I didnt complete the game though, not that fun and shooting just like nightmare. More like the 90s PS games, too much unrealistic.
BTW, the space system is set like to an envioment and is based on computing we say, square cubic sort. Since its not a land. There's no end of the edge.. If you play O.R.B you'll understand as the intro of the game starts a computing images of loading the envioments. Well is much like real. somehow is an old game but very graphical just like EVE, but bad engine that host too much processing power.
I tested a few systems and works nicely. Now the alpha test is over. Time to output real things. I'll have to start collecting enough basic resources and structure em. Plan the scripting as well.
I wonder what blackhole really doing these days.. xD
