Ideas for Freelancer 2
This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!
Didnt see this covered in the post post. And I havent read threw all 14 pages.
The one thing I couldnt stand about freelancer is that, no matter how many missions, or how many ships you kill, no faction ever got stronger or weaker. In SP I would like to be able to fight for a side long enough to see some results.
And I would love to be able to buy stations/large cruisers and be able to customize them. Entire new level of gameplay. And along with that you would need large scale fights if you had beef with another faction.

fair enought then black hole copywrite is a ***** init, how ur plans cumin then and do u think i can b a beta tester i love the sound of a secon freelancer ive bin thinkin bout it on and off for the last few weeks. one idea i belive would work brillently is if ur able to buy moons and convert them to become bases and areas of ur own teritory with ur own faction and aliie or enemies this would work so well on it it could b part of ur story line that u work ur way up in untill u take con trolle of it and maybe juni can comand a different faction and there could b either rivalry or b allies against the terren empire ot the don'cavosh (dono if thats how u spell that but still)

If i ever do make this, and its looking very bad now, because i have not recieved the graphics engine and there's no way in hell i'm making my OWN graphics engine, it would not actually be a continuation of the FL storyline, or be noticibly related to FL in any way to avoid copyright issues. IT wouldn't even be called FL2.
The problem with making a MOD, however, is that many of the awesome ideas in here, such as randomly generated systems, faction movements, dynamic economies, ability to buy a base, ability to colonize a planet, all that stuff cannot be done with the FL engine, its just completely impossible. Which is why FL2 must have a custom game engine.
Again, i will not speak of my plans for fear of retribution from the community. I will tell you that its lookin baaaad now.
Unless some fellow programmers joined up

Awww...I'm not a programmer, but that is bad
So its looking like we can't make FL2. But, alas, we can go on and make spin-off mods and stories for ever and ever. I swear though, if I ever meet someone from Microsoft Games....
I'll probably smile and go wow, freelancer...then murder that person for not delivering a sequel.
BTW does anyone know if there are any mods with story spin-offs from the main FL storyline? I mean anything to do with Trent/Juni/The Order etc, or even where you play a set storyline.

do u no if there is a way to make them create a sequel, pititions, hunger strikes or black male? na im jus kiddin bout the black mail. but cant we get them to relax on the copywrite so ppl can create even better modes and stuff. wot if we ask them to create the graphics engine u require black hole, so u can make it ur self and with modders that can help ya. i would help but i have no knolegde of moddin or file minipulation. i know that to microsoft freelancer was a 'financial flop' but how could it of been theres thosands of gamers hu play it and hundreds of web sites devoted to it, tis wierd that?
Its a shame the copyright on a game didnt work like the trademark system does.
If you dont use your trademark its possible to lose it.
A few years ago a company was taken to court for trademark infringment, their defence team requested all the internal (non secret) company documents.
The result was that the firm owning the trademark lost it. The reason being they didnt even use it on their own internal paper and memo.
The judge ruled that as they didnt use the trademark, they had no right to keep it.
If games worled the same way, the devs would have to keep some interest in the game (a patch here and there, a new bit perhaps, opening the source code in order to keep their rights to the game.
I wonder why they wont either release the code or actually develop the game? Could it be that they are unsure that a FL2 would make money but are also as scared that if someone else released it it could make a lot of money?
However, the money in online gaming (in the view of some companies at least) is in the big 'you pay a monthly subscription to play' games.
Would anyone here pay $10 or $20 a month to play freelancer 2 online? You could be online with 100's of people.
What would that do to the FL community? If a game was making money via online subscription I doubt the devs would make it moddable and able to work on a small standalone server basis.
I guess only time will tell. Perhaps another developer will bring out a decent game like freelancer.
