@gromit i agree on thats sense mods to help u win are pointless it ruins the game...
but the only mod i would use is a mod that would change the look of my ship to a better desing than what they have or maybe give trent bermuda shorts and a hawaiian shirt lol

the only mods i think that are acceptable are those that give you better ships, not cheated or added ones, just the in-game ships that NPCs can fly, like the CSV, the transports, trains, etc.

(Forgive me for digging this up, I was just looking to see if this had been done before)

I'd be happy with just being able to customise my the style of my ship...not the stats of it or anything, just the look...

If you play unfair, did you really win???

I have to say what I like about the game is the challenge. What point is there in making yourself invulnerable. Modding is one thing. But using the Mods unethicly during multiplay is seriously weak. You gotta be one helluva crappy pilot or a vindictive SOB to need or use mods vs others or to make it so you can get the ship you want. Come on..it's not all that hard to get to where you have enough money and the rating to get the ship you want. I got my Titan in...I think it was 2 days maybe 3, although I traded it in for the superior manuverability of the Eagle.

A cheat would be any mods or hacks that gives u an UNFAIR advantage compared to other players. E.g. Advanced Beam Mod, Cardamine Spawning Mod, Cloak Mod, Speed Mods, Weapon/Ship Mods, that sorta stuff.

Modding is different. Mod stands for Modification. A modification can also exist as a Graphics mod, E.g. I use a blue engine effect than the usual yellow eagle engine. That doesn't give any advantage to me other than liking the way my eagle looks . Another mod would be music mods. I modded my Omicron Music to play as the SP Nomad Encounter music. Very nice. No unfair advantage there. Modding weapon visuals E.g. The Tizona Del Cid, u can't see it, I modded mine to be visible as a sort of blue ball. Fits in perfect

Therefore I prefer the term "Cheat" regarding players who mod for their own advantage. "Mod" would mean to me, enhancing gaming experience in a non harmful way.

lol - i just had to post, cause it means there is 6 months between my comments in one thread!!! Got to be a record....well, apart from newbie questions - think i have 8 months there.........but with about 200 posts in between

Just for a last few cents though (dunno who dug this thread up first ) - I say you should respect server admins wishes........or be banned permanently.

If they say no mods/cheats/hacks etc - then they mean it, and you should respect it. That means any mod, hack or anything else. That includes engine and other stuff. If in doubt ask your admin. After all - he is graciously providing you with a server to play on (which costs electricity, connection, and a computer) to run constantly.........and if selfishness is above gratitude......then you don't deserve to play there.

If in doubt - ask your admin. I am sure that if they don't mind small stuff like engine colour and shot colour, then they will say so, and let you get on with it. If they do - then respect their wishes and deactivate/remove those - or play on another server.

My opinion would be that Cheating in MP is the worst thing you can do in a game. Cheating in SP is robbing yourself as someone said. However, there is one cheat that I OK, and that is cheating to bypass the race mission. I know some people who have older computers, and while they can play FL, they can't beat the Race even in a patriot because their computers lag on it for some reason. From what I've noticed, the race is one of the laggiest parts of the game on older computers.

The way I look at it, if someone has to cheat in MP in a PvP, that just shows me how bad of a pilot they really are. Its thier loss, not mine. It boils down to whether you have any ethics or morals on the issue. I like to think the majority of us do. You are just going to have your minority out there that don't, or that want to see what they can get away with. Once caught, I agree with Chips, they aught to be banned from the server, permanately....

Shoot first, shoot straight, win always.

Why would anyone cheat in MP? You might as well play chess with yourself. About the same chances of losing...

Post Fri Mar 05, 2004 12:17 pm

I think we've pretty much got to a conclusion. Cheating in SP-Good. Cheating in MP-Bad.

Post Sun Mar 07, 2004 6:36 pm

what you do in SP is your own buisness. Nothing else anyone can say about it will make any difference, because the point is that if youre only playing against the computer, you're the only person who's affected.

As for MP, Cheating there is just stupid. I have done it, and I gave it up because the only thing I accomplished was to piss people off. If you can't respect the rights of the other people who want to play the real, original game, you don't belong in MP.

And, as for the Nomad weapon question, I agree that they ruin MP. Some of my friends were playing MP (flying Defenders and Clydesdales), and we got ambushed by a couple of Eagles with Nomad weapos who wanted us to pay a toll just to pass through there system. If weapons like that are gonna be used by high ranking players just to harass newbies, then they don't belong in MP either.

Actually when you play chess against yourself you lose almost every time cheaters tend to win

Cheating in SP is your own problem. I don't do it myself, it takes the fun out of it. Apart from anything else, it's a measurement of your skill, how much damage you take. Nothing like tracking down a squadron of Outcast Sabres in my Hammerhead and obliterating them -- I don't know about you folks, but odds like that make me proud when I win. I have cheated before, some games offer funny cheats, after all -- but I got nothing out of it, so don't bother unless it unleashes an easter egg (i.e. naked VDML in AoE2 ).

Multiplayer is obviously a different kettle of fish. The idea is to pit your skills against human opponents. Where's the gaming skill in reprogramming your weapons or shields to be a hundred times better than everyone elses? There's programming skill, sure, but no gaming skill.
If people want to cheat, they should confine such actions to special 'cheating servers'. THAT could be interesting, dog-fights with near-indestructable ships, etc. But they should keep out of honest gaming servers.
