The Cheat Debate

Bad me for bringing it up, but I wanna take a poll. Do you approve of cheating on SP, MP, or both. Why or why not? Plz Reply.

I don't approve of cheating at all, in fact anything that gains you an unfair advantage just proves that you need help to play.Only acceptable mods are if you are on the modded servers for TNG1.60 etc (which is what i call modded or modding!). People might moan about having to start over, but that is the most fun bit. Fighting your way through the rankings and levels, flying whatever ships you can afford, let alone equipment for them.....scavenging guns etc.

Much more fun than selling couple hundred guns, making 100mil, buying an eagle, equiping with nomad lasers/cloak, getting uber hull and other stuff, sitting at manhatten day in, day out waiting to just shoot anyone that appears. That just shows a lack of immagination, interest, sponanivity, ethics, personalitly etc etc etc (add about another 10 blaringly obvious problems those people have....).......SAD

Cheating in Multiplayer is very bat ethics and a complete disregard of other players' game experiences. If you cheat, you just doomed yourself.

Cheating in MP is robbing others, cheating in SP is robbing youself.

ther is a difference between "cheating" and "modding". cheating is altering the game for your advantage, say you want an uber-sheild so you never die so you can constantly pk others without taking a scratch, thats cheating. modding, on the other hand, is altering the game for your entertainment and curiousity, see what its like being invincible (not so much though, ruins the fun of battle) or turning invisible (would like to try that sometime, ill wait until our good friends from modders-ville finally decide to stop pking) etc etc etc. i have no problem with modding, it makes the game more fun and challenging, cheating ,on the other hand, just ruins it for everyone.

Knowledge is security... anything else, well... good luck

my answer is Here so has been covered before

Why cheat? Most people only play the game until you've clawed your way to level 38, so what's the point in skipping it all? I think mods are fine in SP, but just after you've beaten the storyline and it's just a question of credits to the next level. In MP, it gives you an advantage that no one else has, so, it's cheating. Unless everyone has it (example, next generation servers) it's cheating. Call it what you must, but it's still cheating. Which is a shame because some of the stuff these people have come out with is really really cool. --- RR16

I could understand someone modding a server to give a wad of credits to start with- it's a MAJOR turn-off to have to play through again if your favorite server dies. Or, for that matter, a balanced conversion mod(or even a mod that doesn't add or take away anything, just balances the existing game), or perhaps one that puts in battleship encounters...those are all fine. Hell, I'd even agree with someone using a mod for a freighter or train(I mean, they're so unbelievably weak unless people mod the files for them beyond what's needed to be flyable).

Cheating, on the other hand...that's just plain disgusting. FL's higher-level equipment could almost be considered cheating already, IMHO. Cheats are used almost exclusively by instant-gratification freaks, who want nothing more than to see things blown to atoms by their hand, and don't give half a damn about everyone else. THOSE are the people that should be shot on sight.

I will aid them when I can...if they give me a percentage of the salvage from whatever they frag along the way. Hell, they were even so kind as to sell me a ship after one of my jobs with them, and I've been flying her ever since. But god help them if someone puts a bounty on THEIR heads, for I don't care who I hunt for, as long as their live capture(or untimely death) can get me enough credits to buy a decent sized mug of my favorite drink."- A Freelance Bounty Hunter.

My 2cents...

Cheating in MP is wrong. It gives you an unfair advantage and alters the design of the game. Because it affects other players, it should not be allowed, imho.

Cheating in SP is up to each person. Obviously many people think this ruins the game and ends up "cheating yourself". However, I think this is purely objectionable. Each person is going to have a different outlook on cheating. One person may find they enjoy the game much more when they "cheat". This could be because it removes some factors of the game that the player finds a "hinderance" to thier style, while another player will argue that those "hinderances" are what makes the game enjoyable to play in the first place.

At any rate, I don't think any one person can ultimately decide if SP cheating is right or wrong or fun or boring. Each person is going to view it differently. I think the most important thing is that each person enjoys the game. If that means cheating for one person, so be it. At least that person is having fun. While someone else may argue that the "cheater" is robbing themselves of the true game experience, the "cheater" would argue that they are having more fun cheating than playing the game the way the designers intended it. Some cheaters prefer to think of it as "thinking outside the box" or expanding the "limits" of the game.

Anyway, I ramble. To sum up: MP cheating is bad. No one player can decide what is fair for everyone, so the rule has to be to stick to the original design. SP cheating is up to the person playing and can be neither right or wrong. A person is allowed to play solitaire any way they want and it's not up to us to dictate what is fun and what is not for someone else.

Yeah.

You might notice I never actually included my opinion of SP cheating. Rather, I am trying to show everyone can have a different opinion about it, and everyone can be right in their own...er, right.

Ok, that's enough.

on my first adventure on to a server, i was please to of been met in orbit by someone whos name now escapes me. he gave me a hand by donating some guns to me giving me money for a slightly better ship. then letting me accompany him on a diamond run so i could level up and get some credits. on the first trip all was well. but when we finnished it, we met up with some others on way through who decided to join us. problem was i still had a coal fired boat when these lot had top of the range stuff. now we were met with serious amounts of bad guys. and i was flying in formation with 6 other lads. problem is im on dial up so my lag was horrific at this time.i kept having big pauses on my computer while the server was destroying me. one of them told me to go to lancers reactor and get the mod manager and the uber sheild. which i did then i went back so i was flying with them and surviving this time. so we carried on for a few more hours. then we went our seperate ways. by this time i had a decent boat with decent guns. i removed the uber sheild cause i didnt need it anymore. so if it wernt for cheating i would not of known about lancersreactor. as it is the server disapeared one day and i aint seen it since. it was called startopia. anyone know what happened to it?

Okay, so almost everyone hates Cheating OR Modding MP, but I have another question.

I really want to use this mod where you look different online. I launch the mod and join a MP server and try to launch to space. But, as soon as it tries to load, it loses connection. I thought it was just that mod, but it happens with all my mods. When I deactivate the mods, it works like it use too. What's wrong with this? Does FL Server have Anti-Mods things?
