What''s the greatest odds you''ve won against?

I quickly dismissed the light fighters from the end game when I left New York system for the first time. Of course, I was flying a Rhino at the time. My reasoning was simple, "if my Rhino, with it's shields, armor, and numerous guns, was having so much trouble surviving, there was no way a light fighter was going to last."

Since then, I've had to rethink that theory. I happened upon a Legionaire for sale at some base, and decided to try it out. The first time I was ambushed, so far from New York, I ducked, dodged, and managed to escape from a huge number of bad guys. It wasn't long before I got comfortable with my ships ability to evade. I was traveling routes populated by heavy fighters and the occasional VHF, without worry.

I've since switched to a Hawk light fighter, purely for the extra 10 cargo units it can carry. The Hawk also has slightly better weaponry available to it; and for the first time, I didn't just evade and run, I stayed and fought - four bloodhounds and a wolfhound against a lone me. I hardly took a scratch as I took out one enemy after another. I could've probably avoided more damage if I was faster with my countermeasures.

The enemy wasn't the most dangerous I've ever faced; I've fought against VHF's with my own VHF's, for instance. This was the first time, however, where I fought such great odds when I wasn't sure what my ship was capable of in combat (aside from the odd time when I just gave up the battle as lost and did a suicide charge.)

Hawks (and Banshees) are pretty darn good. And having only four weapons isn't a problem as long as they are big damage output.

If I get bored I can reload an old save and try to finish the story with a Hawk instead of an Anubis (that might be tough though)

However, they may not match up well compared to the "uber" fighters (Hammerhead Sabre Titan, which I don't have personaly experience flying).

Personally, I was surprise when I first got "trapped" in a fight with my so very slow Humpback while traying to escape a jump hole. Couldn't get away due to the cruise disruptors, and dogfighting was SO out the question. So I just pointed my ship the the desired direction, and switched to turret mode and started blasting. Well, my opponents were only outcast daggers, but they were exploded very, VERY, quickly.

So, in conclusion, maneuvrable little bantam fighters can work good, and so can blood pigs.

....multiple waves of sabre's attacking me on one side of a jump hole and another as part of a mission...at least 6 ships in each wave...

My worst fight was going up against 15 or so Bounty Hunters Lvl 20.
At one point I could hardly see my target for all the lasers on the screen.

I just barely survived that fight, but lost half my guns and all nano and shield batteries.

Hehe. I just had a fight while flying a Mule, of all things. I fought off four Mollies, only to be set on by four Corsairs as I was trying to finish the last Molley. I only had to repair my shield once, otherwise I did just fine.

This one wound up with a pucker factor of 7 for me (for any aviator types, you will understand that term).

In a LONG term effort to balance out my faction against the criminal element, I went on a hunting spree vs Bounty Hunters (as I can't get to the Xenos in NY anymore). This worked well given the outlaw status you have when you leave Liberty in SP.

So I have pounded Sheffield station again and again. The BH's are really out for me now (Boba Fett, eat my dust!).

Well I was hauling some minor cargo from Leeds to Cambridge, and at Durham along the way I come out of one jump gate and 8 of the buggers are there for me. 6 Pirahna's and a Barracuda. I am in my Crusader.

Well I popped em off one by one and just as I was limping back to a nearby space station to resupply shield bots, another 4 show up. I was down to nano bots by the time I mopped em up, and out of missles, so the last one came down to 1/2 my hull and dogfighting for quite some time.

It was a nailbiter. I resupplied (major credit expediture) but it was worth it. Still, I now never leave w/o a full 50 compliment of missles, so as to shorten such events.

Traveling from Omicon Beta to Alpha --- I must have fought off at least 6 waves of Outcast Sabers, all between 16 to 19th level. After I went into Alpha I was attacked by 10 just as I emerged! I was in a Titan with lvl 10 shields but after fighting them off I limped back to a friendly system. It cost well over 110k just to fix everything! But the payoff was sweet, I made close to 300k just in all the lvl 8 and 9 weapons I tractored in. My ship was toast, they blew off one of my wings and the tail.

Still gotta go back to Alpha and explore, but gonna hack my rep with Outcasts first, don't think I could survive that again!

Anubis ship with 6 lev weapons...that system with red hessians and corsairs fighting, i don`t remember the name...gone on wreck discovery, attacked by both fractions for about 8 waves with 3-4 fighters...at the worm hole there was a battle with 4-4 corsairs and hessians, i`ve killed all ... gone to the corsair base battle with 6 corsairs legionairs..win...made mistake and enter through the omega41 jump gate and there 8 centurions were after me..escaped back...and flee like hell with 6 brand new legionairs after me, finished the run with 1 single line of armor no nano, no batts, no missiles, no mines, with the ship almost destroyed and a great experience...that heavy thruster was my best investment

I once took out 8 Mollies with a Defender...
Then 6 Corsairs showed up and I hauled a$$ for the tradelane...

has to be the time when i went into omicron beta with my sabre, never expected those outcast sabres to chew up my shields so quicky, replenished them and whacked up about 6 waves of about 6 each before calling it quits and running back to a friendly system...but sold of the weapons i tractored in for loads of cash

Has to be the time I was in a trade lane from Fort Bush to Planet Manhattan.. and decided to visit the restroom. I came back to 2 hull bars and no shield. Still managed to fight them off though... in a patriot! oh.. and it was 5 Xenos scum sucking dog breath worms I had to deal with (one had been clobbered by the cops)

lvl 15 in a cruisader doing a lvl 28 job in the tau-31, came back whit a burning ship whit no wings and no tail. (blowing up about 25 outcasts daggers and styletos, and a a station)

The reward was worth it but I had to spend most of it into repairs.

I think I have to give credit to my exploits on a multiplayer server... A friend dared me to take on a level 10 mission fresh off, thinking I'd quickly get slaughtered. He accepted the mission, grouped me, then left the group and I, on my lonesome, having bought only a justice blade mk2 and a magma whatever mk2, while keeping one of the justice blade mk1s you start with, took on the who knows how many liberty rogues (i think 4 waves of 4 of em?) to make a fat load of cash that instantly got me a much better ship...

Try some of the far Omicton sectors when you are hostile with Corsairs. You come out of a neutral base to face 8 Titans. They often take out your shields before you even get control of your ship !

one titan

in a starflyer *g*

22 titans, a hammerhead

15 hammerheads, and about a dozen titans in my little eagle ... though cost me 10 bats. damn those bounty hunters.
