it was NOLF2

if anyone can tell me how i will make it available for download.

i have a sb live and had the same damn problem i am so glad i hung on to that file for the nex ttime i played nolf.

it works with nimo codec pack installed
you dont have to reboot
its great

Installing this game, will screw up your codecs preventing proper encoding of vidoes, ie the encode program crashes when encoding the sound..
Reason I think is that the codec that comes with the game, only seems to be able to do, 56kbit 33khz sound.. Where encoding a movie in higher will crash it i.e. 96kbit 44khz, or higher like 128kbit 44khz.

kakarot, you have msn or icq? or just email the file to me.

Hi, Im having other odd problems with the sound and Freelancer.

the thing is that I did the fix sound bit in the readme to the point, got rid of Nimo, puzzled that I couldnt find any of the files or registry keys mentioned in the readme, got in WMADist, reinstalled Freelancer and after a reboot gave it a go. what happens is that I have full sound on speech but the effects sound are kind of messed up.

when I play I can have both speech and effects on, and things work like a charm. however, when I start blasting at a enemy (and Ive got loads, beein a pirate) the entire game stutters heavily and the shooting shounds cracks up badly.
now, Ive got loads of cash, have no need to get more, I play for fun blasting my way through galaxies so its kind of boring running the game without any sound effects.

any ideas?

Im now dowloading the wma8-9 packages to give that a last chance go. :/

technical info
Windows 2000 SP3 (no hotfixes, hate'm)
Asus A7V Classic
Tbird 1300
768Mb Sdram
Crucial Radeon 9700 Pro with Cat3.1 (yes, Im using the one notch down on hw accel tab, works like a charm, atleast used to..)
Soundblaster PCI 64 (using STD Windows sound drivers. never had any needs to get SB specific drivers.. Yet..)
loads of HDD's and cd-roms

nothing of above is OC'ed in any way, all running on stock speeds. what amazed me is that I actually got to pull 4087 points in 3Dmark03 with that old and outdated rig

Thanks for the fix electricbrain, worked like a charm.

I get the same problems occasionally. The replacement of the codec seems to have stopped the static.

However, I still get no sound from some of the cut-scenes. Specifically when it starts and Trent speaks to the guys taking his buddy from the ship on a stretcher. Also when Trent lands on Pittsburgh for the first time and speaks to the naval officer he went on the first 2 missions with. Most of the other sounds work but some of the in-flight radio communications don't. When I take off and fly through the docking rings at Manhattan, all I get is "freelancer" and I presume it's one word of a larger speech like "You are cleared to depart freelancer".

The note about setting the priority of the Fraunhoffer codec is not necessary... in fact adjusting the priority seems to silently disable the codec??... requiring you to open it up again and check the "Use this audio codec" box. The game works fine with any priority setting as long as you have the right codec. The problem is there are 2 versions of the Fraunhoffer codec... an (advanced) and a (professional) version. They have the same exact name in the main list, but if you view the properties you will see the additional (label) tag. Freelancer seems to require the (advanced) version or certain sounds don't play. The Nimo codec installs the (professional) version and this seems to block Freelancer from installing the (advanced) version... And if you had to un-install Nimo to get the (advanced) codec installed, you can re-install Nimo without affecting Freelancer.

Okay, maybe the next should go in a FAQ somewhere.

The NIMO (and others) codec pack installs the Radium enhanced Fraunhoffer IIS MPEG-Layer 3 *PROFESSIONAL* codec, version 1.2.

The standard Microsoft codec pack installs the Fraunhoffer IIS MPEG-Layer 3 *ADVANCED* codec, version 1.9.xxx.

It is the version number that is important. The more recent versions of l3codec include support for wierd and wonderful playback options under directx, whereas the older Radium codec does not.

However, the Advanced codec will only let you encode up to 56kbps - that sucks. If, like most of you, this doesn't affect you, go ahead and kill the professional version [1.

But if, like me, you like to be able to encode up to 320kbps, this leaves you in the lurch. So yesterday I did some farting around and created a custom installer that puts BOTH versions of this codec in your system. I edited the resources so that they are easily identified (Advanced = Game-Compatible, Professional = Radium).

This installer is clean - it adds a new entry to add/remove ("Codec : Radium MP3 Codec v1.263" and it uninstalls *EVERYTHING* related to the codecs. It also sets default options for codec compression (JS/S/etc).

It works, I've played Freelancer without a hitch after the first time.

If this sounds useful, let me know (lancersreactor?) where I can upload/send and get it hosted.

[1 To kill it, search the registry for all references to "l3acm" and "l3codec" and remove them. Additionally, remove the codec settings from :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fraunhofer IIS

For 9x systems, edit system.ini and remove all lines under [Drivers32 that start with MSACM.L3 and any lines which mention either "L3CODECA.ACM" or "L3CODECP.ACM".

That is all.

When you say "encode", does that refer to ripping CD's? If not, I think I'd be safe to kill the prof mode and skip the program. Otherwise, I'd like it if you could send it to me at [email protected] so I can try this bad boy out.

So ever since I did the sound fix the game won't go past the beginning part when the five ships come up and blow the big ship out of the sky, I get a damn blue screen of death everytime. First in the demo and now in the retail version.
I can't get past that part at all. Please help

Jabberwhacky/fire, it's in the mail.

I never thought I'd say this to a guy but..
I LoVE YA MAN!
I really truly do!
Thankses!

I had the same problem as jabberwhacky and other said they have the same problem as him.

I follow the directions in this thread but they did not work so after a while i just
browsed the cd for freelancer for a while.

Here is how i solved the problem.

1. Uninstall Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
2. Reboot system

Now on the cd there is a directory named "REDIST"

3. Goto the dir "REDIST"
4. Run WMPCDCS8.EXE
5. Reboot if the installtion wants that.
6. Run WMFDIST.EXE
7. Run VCREDIST.EXE
8. Run SHFOLDER.EXE
9. Run MSXML3.MSI
10. Reboot system

11. Goto the dir "MGSRDS" in the dir "REDIST"
12. Run RDS1ENU.MSI
13. Yet another reboot

Now we need to goto the multimedia settings and check the codecs.
Please read how to do that in the first post of this thread.

14. Change Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec' to top priority

This solved my problems to 100%

My english sucks so please have understanding with spelling and other things.

I've done what Electric Brain has suggested (though I didn't have those F$&@(@#& codecs anywhere) and installed the two dowloads, still nothing. For codecs installed I've got the following.

Microsoft CCITT G.711 A-Law and u-Law Codec
Microsoft G.723.1 CODEC
Windows Media Audio
Sipro Lab Telecom ACELP.net audio codec
Voxware Audio CODECs
MPEG Layer-3 Codec (professional)
Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODEC
Microsoft ADPCM CODEC
Microsoft GSM 6.10 Audio CODEC
DSP Group TrueSpeech(TM) Software CODEC
Microsoft PCM Converter

Any ideas? I'll try anything!

Raider2k10:

I see that you have another mpeg layer 3 codec installed.
Ether disable that codec or uninstall it. Theres no need to download anytinhg.
All you need is on the cd. If you read my post before yours. i did what he told
also and i did not work for me. I found my own way to fix this sound problem.

Try what i wrote here in this topic (the post before you).

Please give me some feedback also if it works for you.
