Alpha Server 24/7 Announcement

Want help in running a persistent server? Want to setup a gaming session? Look no further!

Modding wars,
Modding lags servers, period. If you are modding on a server in any way shape or form and the rules say no modding you are cheating period. The rules are made by the sysop/owner and thats that. This guy should be banned from all forums and any games he is found on the minute he appears in any way, shape or form. Arguing or reasoning with this type personality just encourages them, ignoring and just plain getting rid of them will work. Unless drastic action is taken and soon, no new players will come in to play after some bad experiences and looks like the older players are getting tired of the immaturity of the cheaters. Please get radical on these kinds, WAY to many games are being ruined by these griefers as they are being called, Re: Comp. gamers and Compter games Mags.

What is so hard to understand about the words "No mods." That doesn't mean, no mods...except whatever "little" ones you want to use. It means no mods, period. Is humanity really that dense? I don't care whether you think a speed mod is trivial. When your ship can travel different speeds than mine but shouldn't be able to, that's a problem and a cheat. Plain and simple. Go to Calgary or some other server where modders play, heck try Alpha Centauri 2 if its up, that one's a modders' paradise.

Heretic: you are a disgrace to honest freelancers everywhere. Mod-cheaters, you included, are what have caused the creation of KOS (Kill On Sight) lists --- and, by extension, the accidental or even malicious placement of innocent normal players on such lists.

I am such a player: a strictly non-modcheating player accused of using cheats and lumped onto a KOS list with the likes of you:

On Alpha Server 24/7 awhile back, I was wrongfully accused of cloak hacking, among other things, by a certain individual of the AE clan awhile back. They claimed they'd sent a person to ascertain if I was indeed hacking, then they went and said that they would tell that person I was indeed cheating and that I should play along!!??? Throughout the incident, the person behaved in such a way as to have me believe they were the admin. Then I discovered later, they are rumored to be withholding the Admin's email address from everyone else. No wonder they were acting with authority, although I wonder why they accused me in the first place -- FLMM reports all mods disabled. I even restored backups after that to make 100% sure!

Now on Browclopsia I'm trudging along in my Starflier, hauling my goods, im about to dock when I see an AE member enter my radar range. Suddenly, he opens fire and annihilates me with his Rhino's turrets with no provokation. He informs me I am on a KOS (Kill On Sight) List for cheating and hacking on Alpha Server 24/7 including speed mods and cloaking. They even said I was speed modding on Browclopsia earlier that day, which is IMPOSSIBLE, I checked FLMM for active mods right before connecting, since I'm now completely paranoid after the incident on Alpha Server (even though I wasnt modding in either case).

I never use mods on unmodded servers and I am very careful to disable a server-required mod, such as Freeport 9's, before I shut down my computer after I'm done playing for the night.

Normal nonmodders like me: If you do not wish to be wrongfully accused as I have been, do not go to Alpha Server 24/7. Period. Once someone points the finger at you, you're screwed, and in my case, I've got an entire clan that will shoot my ass on sight for something I didnt even do, the members of said clan not even knowing that their own clanmate(s) are liars.

I won't change my name as one of the AE suggested...I simply ask that AE removes my name from their list, that they reevaluate whom should have the responsibility to maintain their KOS list, and most importantly that I can be viewed as an honest player again before this problem spreads.

Gregster2k, out.

(needless to say I dont know where to contact that clan to tell them personally)

The AE on Alpha Server are not the same AE as you'll find on Browclopsia,
[AE Ms_AkiraLee has the Alpha Server admin's email, won't share it, and is quite the feminazi, she has the admin's ear and frankly has been misusing that privilege.
That reason as well as the presence of mod-cheaters is the reason why I tend to avoid that server now.

Well, heretic, we could launch a mod assault on their server its on my visited list too, i could cloak nad uber hull/shield and u could set uber modded nomad lasers to come out of detroit debris field and we could just have a hell of a time

Post Mon Aug 11, 2003 7:32 pm

Well, the problem has been resolved, anyway. I spoke with some people and, after their investigation I now am back where I belong: off the AE clan KOS list (whew...). The person(s) responsible for this mess are now on MY personal KOS list >

Client mod cheating should only be used on servers whose admins openly DO NOT CARE AT ALL about what their clients do and run on the 1.0 version instead of 1.1. These servers are generally considered "bad" because nobody polices them, but in my opinion, they should be the modders' paradises --- why? cuz none of the normal players go to them (and if normal players do, they are nuts!).

Seriously, modders: if you cant resist modding even a little, then go all-out modding on some server that doesnt care if you turn Manhattan into a Liberty Dreadnaught and the Starflier into a flying human. But if a server is policed in any way, even a little bit, DONT mod, people. It ruins the fun for other players.

For example, I have a game called Red Faction which has a modding problem but is policed by admins on the nomod servers. There are also Mods Nofly servers, which basically say, you can do whatever you want to your game but you cant make yourself able to fly. Unlimited bullets are OK, damage mods are okay, but flying isn't. Such servers are testing battlegrounds for players to test their own l337 modding skillz against others'. After these servers sprung up, the modding problem in normal RF servers decreased quite a bit.

I feel FL needs servers like these, servers that specifically say "we want modders but NOT normal players," servers that are safe havens for modders to go to so that they dont ruin the game for other people. Rather than kick them out of the entire FL community, people should give mod-cheaters a few servers of their own so that they don't have to keep randomly harassing servers that do not permit mods.

No non-modder is going to be impressed by a modder's skills unless they like having server lag and instability. Yes, your liberty dreadnaughts and kusari gunboats are pretty cool, modders, but we don't want to see them on OUR servers, so go show your fellow modders something that will shock them, rather than try to show off and impress non-modders who instead of going "oh wow," will go "you suck."

P.S. Sorry for the long posts :-/

I met Gregstar2k on Alpha Server 24/7. Incase anyone else still doubts his credibility, I believe him to be truthful and not a cheater. I played with him a few hours and he gave no hint of cheating and offered unsolicited remarks against it.
Ms Akiralee has not been successful at withholding the admins email, unless this one is incorrect or he has changed it. [email protected]

Skylar, I'm sure you are being sarcastic.

I too have met Gregstar2k on Alpha Server he's a legitimate player and a decent guy.
Reg there's not much point in disclosing the Alpha admins email, he's made it clear he's not interested in hearing from users and has threatened to change his email if anyone bothers him.

That's fine. What a strange admin that dude is. Very anti-social. He is kinda like Saddam Hussein with his character deleting skills. Saddam killed his neighbors in groups, and this dude takes out entire clans from what I have heard.

Edit: It is ashame because the resources and equipment are available, but the admin makes them unreliable with his banning/deleting practices.

I don't know about you guys, might just be me. Does it get laggy when there is over 40 players? Otherwise this is great server.

Post Wed Aug 13, 2003 3:29 pm

I believe it does get laggy with over 40 players, but that is pretty darn good to be able to handle that many. I was on once when the server was pretty laggy and full. I dont' know for sure, but I think the admin kicked half the people off to cut down on lag.

40 players is a solid player base, only Seattle can hold more than that stabley. I wonder why the admin doesn't make the max players 35 or 40.

Post Thu Aug 14, 2003 7:29 pm

Because he's a numbskull, a computer exec who probably slapped this program on to the company server then walked away from it.

Indeed --- the admin of Alpha Server has scared me. It's gotten to the point where upon dying in Omicron Gamma and exiting the server at the death screen, I returned to find myself in that weird bug: I was on malta, omicron alpha, but according to the server chat list I was in Omi-Gamma instead...I was afraid to launch, fearful that the admin would see a sudden jump from Alpha to Gamma and ban me for what is in reality a Freelancer bug... LOL =P

Regulator: I was present when that occurred...
