HISPANIA is what the Romans called the Iberian penninsula - Spain and Portugal.

Do you know where the hispania is? well i tell you. In omicron alpha Behind Planet malta's moon you will find the Hispania debris field. The hispania is actually owned by the Outcasts. The Outcasts found cardamine in the grass on malta.they eat it.The they had a disease that geneticcaly mutated them. The kusari,Liberty,Reinland And Bretoinian systems dident want this "Disease" so they started a war against them. Its true you know. Click on Malta and then click Information. You'll fin it there. Good enough?

WOW, I never knew that there were also Corsairs on Malta besides the Outcasts.

oh sorry got the name wrong.

Actually, I suspect that the Hispania carried mediterranean cargo.

Why?

Well, first of all, the base names. Malta and Crete aren't exactly spanish.
Second, they appeared to have done the same with Bretonia and Rheinland - according to the story, the Rheinland carried germanic cargo, not just german - Bretonia carried people from the United Kingdom and the surrounding lands .

I guess you put it right DarkHydra.

Post Thu Aug 14, 2003 11:06 pm

well DH maybe not on the last example (I'm just showing off and being pedantic so you can call me a t**t if you want!) The Bretonia only needed to carry folk from the UK itself to have the ethnic mix it had, for our country is actually called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for it is still ours. The Irish on the Bretonia didn't necessarily have to be from the Republic. In fact that explains better the Mollys' rebellion I think, gives them more of a reason to fight "the fekkin' Brits" I did a bit of time in N.Ireland so even though it's all just speculation about fiction, I think I'm right.

Admittedly the Rhineland could plausibly have Austrians and even Swiss as well as native Germans. Cettainly a sort of pan-German nationalism seems to be rife in FL Rhineland so taking "Germanic" peoples makes sense in a scary racial purity sort of way. I pretty much think the Hispania had Spanish and probably Portuguese and possibly Maltese, if it hadn't had the latter they'd have been pretty cross (Maltese, cross = Maltese Cross, it's a joke..) anyway I think Malta people would have been included in an Italian ship, but then I can't see any Greeks including Cretans getting on that one. dunno about the Kusari, can't see Japanese and Koreans getting on too well. Maybe things are different in the future with the threat from the Coalition etc.

how do you make a Venetian blind? Poke his eyes out.. ok that was bad.

For some more 'evidence', let me quote something from the official website:

"The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo."

Obviously, the Kusari would only carry people from the (small) part of Asia which supported the Alliance.

If the Liberty carried Americans (USA, Canada, the rest was coalition (I think)), the Bretonia the UK and surrounding territory (eg. ireland, etc), the Rheinland germanic people (eg. Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Poland, etc), and the Hispania mediterannean people (Malta, Greece, Spain, etc), you've got representatives of nearly everyone in the Alliance.

All the Kusari names are in Japanese.
Systems are named after the 4 main islands in Japan.
Plus the one named after it's capital.
What is interesting is that Tohoku on earth is the north-eastern part of Honshu, but it's not in the Honshu system in Sirius.
Kyoto is the old capitol of Japan, which would explain why the Blood dragon's base is named Kyoto base, since they fight for the old regime.
Chugoku is the Japanese word for China, that doesn't seem to fit as the system's only base is named after something in Japan.

The last word is mine. Always.

Tawakalna: Malta is not Italian but Greek I think.

Who knows who was on the sleeper ships? The other day I blasted a Red Hessian with the decidedly un-Germanic sounding name of Florian Stschukin. Also, notice that the Mollies don't exactly have very Irish names.

I restarted the game to try another ship and was surprised to find the battleship Yukon in Liberty. Looks like some Canucks slipped aboard that sleeper ship. Maybe nobody noticed their lacrosse sticks and snow shoes in the blackout.

Actually Nick it's neither, although they've both had it at various times throughout history. Ethnographically it's more Italian than anything else 'though. No Greek influence since Byzantine/Norman times.

..you think you're done with the past; but the past isn't done with you..

maybe Florian Schtushkin (whatever) was from some bit of Poland or the Baltic States that had been re-Germanised and was considered a Volksdeutscher or something.. well it does happen from time to time!

Didn't know that, My history knowledge goes only back to about 1981 or so

But Crete isn't all that Greek either, right?
Isn't that the island wich is half Turkish and half Greek?

Btw, you got Amaricans called Van Halen and Vanderberg and such and even Van Pelt ingame! That are all Dutch names, or from around here
just to back up the Florian Schtushkin stuff.
