Dyson Sphere

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Why bother with the Dyson sphere? Just build a huge dynamo and let the Earth rotate it's rotor to produce electricity

It seems like this question was answered in the game. It was the Dom Kovash that actually built the thing, the nomads were just using it. I am guessing the Dom Kovash built it mainly as the power source of the Hyoergates. The point of activating the hypergates was to pull that power out of the hands of the nomads.
On another note, I beat the satellites by cutting power in a blind spot, opposite the weapon platforms, right up against the satellite. You might take a slight beating from any remaining fighters, but it is nothing compared to the platforms. Your wingmen are usually enough to keep you covered.

I'm guessing that the mass of the dyson sphere itself would provide the gravity. Or something like that.

i destroyed the sats with a simple technique.attack runs using afterburners!back and forth, back and forth, back and forth,...
i had 6 Death's Hands...I just remembered something funny,i had to buy 6 death's hands beacuse i needed the money i got from selling the other guns i was using.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but before i entered the dyson sphere i saw a planet out side it...and i thought i saw a docking ring. Maybe this could be a good planet to go to...now only if u could GET to the system after the SP is complete...

I know this should be in the editing forum but could it not be easily modded to open up these systems in MP?

and as for how to creat spin if you opted for the Type II Dyson... you wouldn't...

just build it spinning...

on the subject of solving world energy needs. all it would take is enough solar panels here on earth, some guy worked it out in the 1930's i think, and basically, back then for a mere cost of 70 billion dollars part of the sahara could have been covered with solar panels capable of producing the WORLDS energy needs. u must ask yourself, wtf were they thinking, we have so much problem with energy production and needs nowadays and here was a simple solution using proven technology not cutting edge stuff. it was low maintainance etc. for a mere 70 bil. thats absolutely nothing to a country, nothing. and this could have been a worldwide debt payed up by all who wanted to use the power.......
who needs to go out to space to di it???? at a staggering cost

If a dyson sphere spins, it would collapse.

Notice how a planet tend to flatten at the poles and bulge out at the equator due to its spin. And that's a solid object. Imagine what would happen to a spinning hollow sphere even just the size of a planet (never mind a sphere the size of a planetary orbit)-- It would implode.

As far as building a Dyson sphere for power generation goes... Did Dyson ever stop to think how much energy is needed to build one in the first place? All the energy that is needed to dismantle a whole planet, then refine the material and move all that matter where they need to go? Somehow I think that would be self-defeating.

I FOUND THE ENRTY TO THE DYSON SPHERE! Go to sector 3A and go levt for ever and it should be there.

NVM. Going in to the jump hole crashes the game.

Another use for a Dyson sphere:

Totally enclosing your home star makes it invisible to other (alien) civilisations.

So long as you can ensure that you keep the outer surface at the same temperature as interstellar space, it would be very difficult to find.

Am I the only person who thinks civilization is spelled with a zed? About the planet outside the sphere I bet that is where The Order will set up shop to watch the Dyson Sphere incase The Nomads somehow come back or something through the Sphere or the the area. They were already thinking about the sequel, infact I bet the expansion pack is already in the works (as in they started it well before the game was released).

Heh heh... A race of super-paranoid aliens who are so deathly afraid of other life in the galaxy that they would go to the trouble, effort and expense of building a solar-system-sized cage to keep themselves in and others out.

And here we are thinking that maybe in our ignorance we humans were the most paranoid creatures around. Don't mind me if I think that this whole dyson sphere thing is a bit ludicrous.

And unless those aliens want to trap all the star's heat inside the dyson sphere and basically bake themselves to a crisp, no, there is no way to hide the star's IR signature.

OK....last I heard, a Dyson sphere wasn't really a complete sphere. It was a series of planet-sized solar panels fit together like a soccer ball. However, there are small gaps between the panels (small being about 50-200 meters). If you built a full sphere, you would cook everything...this allows the solar wind and heat to escape without losing too much surface area.

The first thing I thought was:
A planet on an huge chess board???
No really someone please say something!!!, if it wasn´t because I was running for my life, I´d go straight toward that spheric thing.
But I guess that was the whole thing was about, right?..

Anyway what does the unknown system has to do with the sphere?

Good Luck out there[![!
