Noooooo expansion pack

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Would this be the same intro movie that only shows the Sleeper Ships taking off and barging through the Coalition fleet and nothing else? That's the intro movie I saw.

On the modular cargo packs, how about the more cargo modules you carry, the slower and less maneuverable your ship becomes? That way you can carry LOTS of cargo, but only by sacrificing your fighting ability.

didn't people come to a general consensus that the PRE-RELEASE intro movie is null and void because it was cut?

I seriously doubt there will be an expansion pack or a sequel. Both seem VERY unlikely. Do the math.

FE can you imagoine more Cargo + a Humpy?

Post Sat May 31, 2003 6:10 pm

More cargo AND the HUmpback? Hmm...

How about some stations selling towed cargo pods? Basically, a Towed Cargo Pod is a box on one end of a cable. The other end of the cable is attached to your ship or another Pod. Just don't slow down too fast or you'll take damage from your own pods rear ending you.

Here's a thought:
Was there ever any indication that the Coalition had genocidal intentions? If not, the nations that founded the Sirius Houses could still exist. In 800 years, the Coalition conquers, occupies, and eventually pulls out of the former Alliance once they're sure the war won't pick up again.

Wouldn't that throw a monkeywrench in some posters' plans to "avenge the Alliance"? They show up in "Coalition" space and clast the first ship they see... a freighter with U.S. markings.

Well how about this... The Coalition are under attack because the Nomads attack them because in the first or second mission you kill the Nomads. They flee to Sol... In the mean time you talk with Orrilion about the battle, until SURPRISE SURPRISE, a guy goes "Sir we just got a distress signal from Earth. From the Coalition. They want our help..." or something like that. Then after you arrive in Sol after a long journey, you get ambushed and just about escape in an escape pod to a near planet. Maybe Mars... Then the story writes itself!!

If the Nomads couldn't take Sirius at full power, how are they supposed to take the Coalition who is probably a bigger, more advanced version of Sirius? Especially if they haven't been infiltrating the Coalition.

For that matter, who does the Coalition think it's calling?

I thought that was pretty obvious from the opening cinematics in Starlancer with the Coalition general:

"What should we do with the prisoners, General?"

"Kill them all. We have no time for prisoners."

I dunno. Look, First Evil. Life doesn't need an explantion, its just they probably (if this should happen in the first place) wanted the alliance to help them 'cause they will otherwise get wiped out that they did a distress call to Sirius, and it happened to land by the Osiris. Also, please remember that we did wipe out the Nomads base at the end of SP, so the Nomads thought the people in Sol are human, so lets pick on them for revenge!!

Why not both first the expansion pack then a complete new story there should be alot more interaction on the planets how about some dog fights protecting buildings and stuff and a story for the badguys to (not everyone wants to follow kings bald head halfway across the universe just to move up a level..

I'm still confused as to why people think the Nomads would have anything to do with Earth. The only reason they attacked the Sirians was because they unearthed them, waking them up, and they realised that the interstellar empire they were supposed to be protecting was occupied. Earth has never been occupied by an advanced Alien race - or we would have found artifacts similar to those found in Sirius - so it doesn't fall under the 'care' of the Nomads. They're caretakers, remember? Not an invasion fleet, a defensive one. Even if the Dom Kavosh (or however they like to have their name spelt) wanted to invade Sol, they probably wouldn't use the Nomads to do it. Maybe they have some variant on the Nomads, another specifically bred race, for offensive operations. But I know I wouldn't send an unshielded ship away from the location it was meant to be guarding into enemy territory. You don't have a vast interstellar empire for millions of years by being stupid, y'know.

So I don't think that if the Coalition were to be put in an expansion/sequel, the Nomads would be involved. Possibly some alien that the Coalition themselves had found in their own inevitable expansion would be good. I think its safe to say that the Alliance lost, and judging from their military tactics, assuming the Coalition still existed 800 or 900 years later, they're going to be expansionist, hostile, manipulative and tricky. Perhaps it could start off with an exploring Coalition super-carrier trying to make peace with their age-old nemesis, only to double-cross them? It seems to be their favourite tactic - from the intro movie of Starlancer to the Dark Reign ion cannon they base their tactics on lies and acting. That's only if the Coalition are involved. I'd like to see how they're getting on. I don't want another Nomad storyline, that'd get quite dull. There should still be some 'unknown' jump holes so you can meet up with them though .
Coalition technology would be, say, 50 years ahead of the Sirian houses. Thats giving them 50 years of stagnant development to mop up the remaining Alliance forces and establish their power. As they had those mobile warp hole generators for CARRIERS, and carrier-mounted shield generators, and were dabbling in cloaking technology very early on, I think its fair to say that they may have some advantages in technology terms. Those technologys are pretty advanced compared to the Sirians now, and they are from 900 years ago. They must have some pretty amazing stuff out there. THey already had an industrial base, ravaged by war though it was. The various Sirian houses not only had to spend a few years - a hundred? - traveling to Sirius in the first place, but also had to spend time figuring out ways to survive, then building up some cities, then building up industry, then getting back into space, then colonising some more planets and havesting materials from asteroid and nebula fields, before they could spend any significant time on technology development. I think that saying the Coalition is only 50 years ahead is actually quite generous. If the Coalition, or any enemy from Sol, does get included in any expansion, we could be looking at an amazing leap in tactics.

I don't see that you need to drag in the Coalition or the Dom Kevosh for an expansion pack. There's huge scope for multiple storylines just within the existing factions. Something like the attack of the Coalition would be a sequel not an expansion pack. It would require a LOT more work. Some examples for storylines with the existing factions;

1. The Blood Dragons and Samura
2. The Corsairs invading Rheinland
3. The Corsairs and Red Hessians in some sort of meaningful battle rather than a stalemate

All the basics for the stories are in the existing relationships between the factions, and the rumours already in the game. It would just be a matter of fleshing them out into a campaign or a series of campaigns. What about each of those options being a campaign where you get to start from scratch at a place other than Manhattan? For example staring at a Corsair base, or the Blood Dragon Kyoto base, etc.

You don't need to make massive changes to expand the existing game and storylines. If you are forced to start from scratch, it can still be challenging. Or you could introduce a bunch of new technology and capships etc to make new challenges.

The Osiris needs to reappear, since hte existing story said that they would be in touch. There's a mass of loose ends for followup stories.
