Noooooo expansion pack

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

An expansion would be much better than a sequel because you could get it cheaper and not have to play a completely different game.

i say they should make an expansion pack. plain and simple post.

Actually, you'd be surprised how many Germans speak English with an American accent. Something to do with Hollywood, possibly. And yes, I'm English. And I live here. And I've met Germans.

Are you saying that you wont play the expansion even if they do make it?
Why?

How 'bout a expansion with planetary fighting and mission, like outside of the Nomad's Dyson Sphere? That would be cool...

Planet side fights eh, like Starfox. Well mabye Rogue Sqaudron is a better example.

There should be an expansion pack where what you do matters not saying you should be able to destroy bases but for example in omega 5 I destroyed 10 weapons platforms of the red Hessin's and fired sunslayer torpido's at ther ebase but it dosn't made a difference the red Hessian's are still as strong as they used to be! The cosirs have a battle plan against the redhessiin's that is never put into action it's like time stands still.

The thing about attacking the Coalition is...well, there's probably no Coalition anymore. Like the Alliance, the Coalition is a dead political entity even though the constituent parts.

Likewise, post-Coalition Sol and it's colonies are probably more advanced technologically than Sirius, but not TOO advanced. Where else are the new weapons and ships going to come from?

Not only would the former Coalition members have slightly more advanced tech... Their technological advances would've gone in different directions afterwards. For without an enemy left to fight anymore they may have become peaceful, and focused on trading and have HUGE cargo ships, and colony ships and probably jumpgates that link to multiple destinations... Or they may have split into their original constituent nations and poured all their technological powers into developing the ultimate war machines in order to fight each other... Gigantic battleships and enormous battlestation, extremely advanced weaponry, antimatter production for use in weapons (planet-killer bombs comes to mind but it would also be good for antimatter thrusters, give you an enormous boost)
And remember, the Sirius sector is only in one direction, they could have expanded in any other direction they wished... And with an already functioning industrial base, they'd inevitably have many more systems under their control. perhaps 10-20 times the amount in the Sirius sector.
Also, adding in a semi-peaceful alien empire, of approximately the same size as the humans' in the Sirius sector would add in a good element... Maybe incorporate it into the storyline by being the person to make 1st contact with them while on a prospecting mission or something.
Adding both the coalition and aliens would make it too big for just one exp pack so maybe make two of them out of it.

I love expansion packs. I'd buy an expansion pack, but not a FL2. There is so much more that can be done here, without me having to fork out another $120(NZ).

My vision of post-Coalition Sol is that there's a central government that everyone pays lip service to even as they snipe and shoot at each other. The political situation is different enough to feel like a new setting but similar enough that a Freelancer would feel right at home. Like sniper said, they'd be bigger and more technologically advanced, but haven't expanded in the Sirius sector's direction (or just haven't reached Sirius yet).

Here's a scenario:

While scouting the Dom Kovash network, the Order stumbles upon post-Coalition humanity.

Orillion hires Trent to scout the post-Coalition nation to see what it's like. Trent is supposed to go undercover, so he can't take any Sirius sector ships. Likewise, Sirius money is no good in post-Coalition territory.

So Trent arrives in Sol controlled space in a pre-Exodus fighter "liberated" by the Order from a museum. He's also effectively flat broke. The fighter is an obsolete antique in Sirius, and is even more so in Sol space. However, a mysterious buyer takes the antique off Trent's hands for just enough cash to buy the cheapest, least effective fighter still in use by the post-Coalition factions. It's just enough to start Trent freelancing there.

Later in the campaign, Trent learns through a news item or rumor that his antique was in fact worth a million times what he was paid for it and is now in the hands of a museum or private collector or something.

I think that they should do some expansion packs but have a sequel when they reach the limits of the engine.
I think that they should work on having more variation in the random missions (they are incredibly boring), have more ship classes, pilotable transports maybe a class of ship a bit bigger than a VHF (with automated turrets or something) and different top speeds for ships, and ships that dont need trade lanes to go at trade lane speeds or jump gates to jump (as was suggested by a Kishiro tech).
They should have random characters from Trents past appearing in bars, like is ex-girlfriend (and maybe asking favours), secret storylines (after the main story is over) and a less linear main story - so that there are different possible story missions that get offered at different points. They should have more NPCs and more variation in the script and make the planet surfaces bigger with more variation. They could have storylines developing from single missions (like you take a mission for Samura to recruit some Blood Dragons and attack a Kishiro base/convoy/whatever; get ambushed when doing the attack; Dragons get *miffed* + send you to offer services to Kishiro...)
Eventually, i think they should add a single player element and have a home base for the player where you can store stuff - so you can do missions in a combat craft and then swap to a transport for trading, or keep commodities till the prices change (definitely need to have fluctuating market. why does the price of Gate/Trade Lane Parts not change when the people buying it have finished building the gate/lane?) and have new commodities coming on the market as time progresses).
They could also maybe use something like that self-generating narrative engine that someone (cant remember who) is developing (Harvard, or something).

they managed to create this large game with hardly any loading points whatsoever, so perhaps for a sequel they could go for something like Breed - being able to go straight down to a planet from space, some action on planets would be good.
maybe for an expansion, automated turrets (how many rear-firing turrets are there that are pretty cumbersome to use while fighting?), and......pretty much everything everyone else has said....

I love The Evil's idea...its along the same lines as I was thinking.

Definitely there should be an expansion. If not by the original programmers then things like Rebalance are providing a nice alternative.

The Dom Kevash network is definitely a storyline to exploit. Finding the Coalition through the Dom Kevash would be a great way to have a storyline with a built-in conflict, multiple parties and extra systems.

Here's an idea....maybe instead of expanding outwards the Coalition has super-developed the Sol System and maybe 1 or two others.

Each of the planets has multiple ports, and tons of stations. Sol ships don't (and can't) use trade lanes because they use a different faster driver.

MORE customizability on your ship. Homeworld had an easy way to do custom paintjobs. With just a few decals, patterns and color's you could have a pretty distinctive ship.

More components on the ships. We've got shields, weapons, and thrusters. What about engines, coolant packs, computers, scanners, modular holds etc.

It would be great to have a ship where you can BUY cargo packs for it. Without the cargo pack it's a decent (tho not great) fighter, with it, it's a decent freighter with a distinct lack of turrets.

Didn't anybody actually watch the intro movie? There is no Sol, there is no Coalition, as far as Freelancer universe is concerned. They all got wiped out 800 years before Freelancer time.

Expansion Pack would be a great idea, hopefully adding mission variety, all they need to do is look at Wing Commander series, X-Wing/Tie, etc... As it was mentioned here, escort mission, convoys, retrieval of things, etc... Killing Battleships in Rebalance mod is all fine and dandy, but it's still a bit boring.

Palpatine

P.S. Is it just me or did the ending suck.
