Noooooo expansion pack

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

An EXP Pack means lots of additions in a short amount of time and more cool story to go thru.

A sequel means that we wasted $50 on FL and we have to wait another god-knows-how-many-years for FL2 to come out.

BRING ON THE EXP PACKS.

p.s. not all of them are bad. See: Any Blizzard EXP Pack. Brood War made Starcraft quite possibly the best multiplayer game on the market.

I would definately like to see more ships, maybe something closer to a capital ship without hacking, basically a heavily armed freighter.

Shut up and color.

I already posted this in my Random Missions thread, but I thought I'd post it here too. If done right, a never ending string of expansion packs a la the Sims could be great. Observe:

The first one could be called "Freelancer - Livin' Large" and include more ships, more systems, more NPCs, more mission types, etc.
The second one would be "Freelancer - Ready to Rumble", where there are even more mission types of greater complexity, more complex combat controls as an option, wingmen you can hire in SP, pilotable capital ships, more fighter types, customizable fighters, bigger battles, etc.
The third would be "Freelancer - Starship Tycoon", and would incorporate a much more robust galactic economics/business model for you to exploit, with constantly fluctuating commodity prices, a stock market that reacts to YOUR actions, property, ownable businesses (imagine being the largest shareholder in Ageira!) etc.
And finally, "Freelancer - Civilizations", with more factions, more nuanced politics, the ability to join factions yourself, the ability to influence the power levels of various factions, etc.; annoying and worthless advisors included!

Truly, the possibilities are ENDLESS! Once the game gets so old that the graphics look crappy MS can just sell an expansion pack that updates the graphics engine.

And yeah, I'm being sarcastic. Even though I want an expansion pack too.

If EA published Freelancer, you WOULD see all that.

They have that reputation for beating anything remotely successful into the ground. I'd chuckle but it's actually not that funny.....

It'd be great if they combined all those faux expansion packs I mentioned into one overriding pack. I'd pay 30 bucks to get those features.

In my opinion, Freelancer is a great frame of a game, with only some of the features implemented. I say MS and Digital Anvil try to do this great universe/storyline/setting some justice before setting off on a sequel which may take years to make.

Ah, Electronic Arts... while they churn out expansion packs galore, they sit on a cash cow and behave as though it didn't exist... "Wing Commander? Huh? What's a wing commander?"

Post Wed Apr 16, 2003 8:46 pm

Probably trying to give it enough time for the painful memories of Wing Commander: The Movie to pass from the gaming community's collective consciousness.

"Let's make it a comedy with teen-"heartthrob" actors that most gamers who would come to watch this movie detest!"
"OK! Sounds like a plan!"

Well if they make an expansion pack atleast one mission has to be like this:

Juniamn, I just lost weapon-control
King:No! Beta 4 is down! Beta 5! Beta sqaud was just completely destroyed!
Orillion:Looks like this is it..
Quintain:I am picking up strange readings..
Trent:The hell?

**A whole bunch of ships decloak between you and enemies**

Unkown Pilot: Hey boys, I see you could use a litle help.
UP2: Yeehaw! Lets wax dese critters!
UP3: You just sit tight and we'll handle this

**Enemies get aniliated and there is a huge scripted conversation in space**

"It is said that revenge is a dish best served cold, it is very cold in space."

Hehe, that'd be fun.

By the way, I strongly agree with the idea of a more lifely random missions, and not the same again and again, and perhaps... having extra menu/options of; asking for reinforcement (so they'll fly in formation with you), asking for trade with passing transport ships, or even a bit of "Sims" action with people on planets, hehe...

I think these are all feasible add-ons wOOt!

Post Sun Apr 27, 2003 6:36 pm

how about adding a light cruiser class, using the freighters as a base... retrofit each freighter, well, copy, then retrofit, with better weapons/shields and less/no cargo space.. easy enough.... you could even have a new generation of turrets, that will only mount on these LCs... suggestions.... I'm thinking of starting this one....

If it moves, shoot it... If it doesn't, shoot it anyway.

I would say no coalition, their story is done, they won the war, and controll the SOL system, aswell as propably quite a few surounding systems.

What i'd say would be logical for an expansion pack is to finally defeat the nomads (they were beaten not defeated at the end of SP) and get some more info on all the skeletons in all the houses closets, like the accident in the badlands, and why there's a whole friggin' jumpgate there to magellan.

Post Sun Apr 27, 2003 11:45 pm

what about the whole hypergate sistem thing. that leads too all ends of the universe and no one wants access? a good expention would be nice and could fit nicely here. a gazzilion other systems, untold hundreds of new races/ships/items. who knows maybe even access to sol and see what is left of the coalition... massive-intergalctic-war, huh? any takers?

Post Sun Apr 27, 2003 11:57 pm

I dont want an Expansion Pack.

The missions are over.... I dont want more... the storyline was long enough and was too open ended...

I want a sequal... and I want a god damn joystick system.

Post Mon Apr 28, 2003 2:48 am

I doubt there would ever be an expansion pack.

I read the story line on the other freelancer fansite that the nomads came out of nowhere destroying the sol system 800 years ago. There new life started in sirius sector and spreading. I'm pretty sure there was no other life but them and nomads on the sirius sector. The monkey planet on the otherside was just something magical. That doesn't mean theres going to be other anthro-morphic species besides monkeys because thats just an easter egg the developers added... there was a robot planet that you seen in common houe sectors too to probably proove it too.

I don't even remember if they put humans only in the sleeper ships.

I don't know I think DA dropped the whole nomads-nuke-sol idea, cuz hey if all the colonies knew about the nomads in the first place, thanks to the survivng general, I doubt the whole fiasco of freelancer would ever of gotten really started. That and if I wanted star-nukeing aliens, with endless numbers, and incomprehensible power, not to mention beam wapons galore, i'd go play FreeSpace/FreeSpace2. Not to mention if the aliens could of destroyed stars that easily, why the whole point for subtrifuge? Just go around blow up all the stars, problem solved, not like there was anything important on those planets, exept maybey Crete which they could of just as easily glassed over.

I still think that if there's an expansion we get to finally defeat the Nomads.
