8 sleeper ship?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

In The intro they said the names of the ships...hispania, liberty, rhineland, kusari, and bretonia AND in the intro only 5 launched. Wouldn't microsoft said them all in the intro?

Like I said in my first post here, isn't possible that the other sleeper ships were simply forgotten? 800 years have passed, and there was a flurry of expansion, and wars broke out between the 4 groups that made it. Facts are written by the victors of wars (read: bias).

The French and Italian fleets were destroyed by the Coalition at the beginning of Starlancer. Only a few ships/squads managed to get away, and they were incorperated into the other nations fleets. So no French or Italian sleeper ships, they simply ceased to exist in the Alliance.

Now... why would latin American nations be bunched together with the Spanish Hispania sleeper ship? By that logic, you could merge Liberty and Bretonia. Heck, you might be able to merge Rheinland and Bretonia, damn Saxons...

The Coalition from Starlancer, as near I can make out, consisted of Russia, China, many middle-eastern nations, and I think a large amount of Africa too. The Alliance consisted of Britain, America, Italy (died), France (died), Japan, and Spain. You could probably throw in the other more western nations too. Canada, Australia being the major ones. Maybe India.

The 5 main houses in Freelancer exist because before Starlancer, they already had feck off huge fleets. When Starlancer started, the Coalition practically instantly took control of Earth and the inner planets, up to Jupiter I believe. S0 no chance of another nation getting away, the Coalition just annexed them.

Microsoft scrapped the initial (and I think much cooler) storyline, where Sol gets destroyed. Why? Well if Earths gone, you cant have an expansion pack where you return to Earth. You lose an intrigueing story, and so make it harder for yourself to make sales. Pain in the...
COalition (as far as anyone knows) has no reason to flee Sol. They own the entire system. Emmense resources are at their command. I think they would be pretty happy to just sit back and enjoy their conquests.

So assuming the Alliance DID launch more than 5 national sleeper ships, and assuming no nation launched more than 1 ship each, I would guess at Canada, Australia, India, some Scandinavian culture, or maybe even Greek.

Anyway, just my 50 pence.

Has anyone tried to ask the people who created this game? Is there any talk of an expansion/sequal to this game?

Post Mon Apr 14, 2003 3:20 am

The Coalition would, theoretically, be rather screwed after 800 years...they've got /9/ planets, for chrissakes. Sirius has all of, what, 30 or 40 with people on them, not to mention mining bases and places being terraformed? Sirius has huge nebulae which are being mined, enormous asteroid fields, and so forth. Sol has, what, 3 distinct asteroid patches, 9 planets, and the comet shield. It would be like Magellan alone trying to take over every other system...it's just not possible.

The only wat for the Coalition to be at all a threat to Sirius would be HUGE advancements in technology, or HUGE amounts of expansion (which they would have no real reason to do, unless they were running out of resources).

Who says the Collision stayed? How could they? I thought the system was blown up? Even if it wasn't.. There is talk of 8 sleeper ships. That is what this thread is all about. Even if my WWII theory is totally bogus.. the collision still had something. I'm sure they moved away from SOL. I am almost positive Earth blew up. Thats like the major place for anything, they needed that. There is nothing else like you said in our solar system that they could use for 800 years of tech advancement. I still think that those hypergates will open this game up to new sectors... the Collision sector, or better yet the order

You're thinking of the original intro movie. In that, something happened with the sun (I think they said it went supernova, theoretically as a result of Nomads messing with it) and it destroyed all planets other than Pluto. However, that intro was scrapped in favor of the current one. As far as we can tell, the story that shipped with the game is the "true" one. In that story, it doesn't say anything about Sol's destruction, so my conclusion is: Earth still stands.

y should the coalition stop after conquering the sol system?
humans are curious, greedy and expansionistic (or *whatever* it is called).

remember that the sirius sector is just a part of the galaxy? there are other parts, and the sol systems would just equal new york (though it has more planets than ANY in freelancer ).

as far as i can see we have 2 options for a sequal atm.
1) the coalition manages to find the alliance ("our" ppl) or - reverse - the use of those "hypergates" we've heard about the nomads and their masters were using, allows the coalition a strike on the earth and the coalition (remember they said "but we never forget" in the intro?)
or 2) the nomads or their masters, whatever strike again and there will be a big war and they will be destructed, defeated, conquererd, whatever.

personally i would like to see a combination of those options, like the alliance strikes on the coalition and after a short time the nomads/master "feel" that they used the hypergate and strike on whereever it was used.
yadadadada, big battles, big guns, big losses, big victories an stuff

I think it has to be taken that the intro footageand commentary of the sleepers leaving is what actually happened (in the FL universe), therefore i would have to assume there was originally a plan by the developers to have 8 factions (possibly realating to the SL ones). This spawned the rumour, the game plan changed to 5 sleepers and the rumour was overlooked for update. Either that or the barman is just drunk/stupid/ignorant as has already been suggested.
Whatever the reason is only the developers will be able to tell us. However if i were them i would find it much more entertaining to watch us rack up a 5 page thread (at present) trying to figure out what the hell was going on

One thing I don't understand, if you look at the story page on the official freelancer site, it says there that after the sleeper ships made it to sirius and the people on it settled there the events of the past were forgoten, but in the intro it says "but we will never forget". Seems to me like they forgot coz besides that bartender no one mentions those events.

Anyway, it'd be really cool to have an expansion pack that will let you play a man/woman from the coalition, like opposing force for half life. Maybe then we'll learn the truth about the sleeper ships mystery.

Juni is HOT, peace.

ive had three people tell me that thee where 8 and only one was the bartender.

The intro, while told (apparently) from the perspective of a colonist, wouldn't be distorted by history because Digital Anvil were using it to tell us what happened to the Starlancer universe - the intro and the names of the Houses being the only real links between the two games. A 'rumour' should not convince everyone that the intro is wrong/twisted... it could be there to just set off your imagination. It seems to have worked .

If the rumour were fact, I'd have to go with France, Italy and Australia. Russia would be a BIG NO-NO, as it was the main power in the Coalition therefore one of the winning nations. Just because the French and Italian FLEETS were destroyed, doesn't mean that their cultures were, so they could still be put into colony ships. If I remember rightly, a lot of prisoners you helped rescue in SL were, in fact, prisoners taken from the French and Italian fleets/colonies. Canada would likely be merged with Liberty (proximity), Bretonia (Commonwealth), or even the French ship (hey, a good deal of Canadians are related to the French).

Again, this theory of the Sol system being destroyed by an alien ship should be scrubbed from everyone's mind now that the final game is released. It was an early idea. An early idea which hasn't carried through. If a movie changes its script a lot, altering main events, you don't stick with the original just because it was first. You go with the final version. And I personally would love to see the Coalition attack/invade/meet the Syrius populace. I mean, if they were that close to victory 800 years previous (I doubt the sleeper ships would be launched unless it was the last straw), they've had centuries to advance their war machine.

I guess so. I think it is just all in our hearts that we want to see more of this game. It's like a good movie, and you just want to see more of it and not want it to end. I think this is how this game as felt to most of us. It just kinda ends.. leaving so much open, and so many mysteries.

The 8 sleeper ships, the unknown sectors that house thousands of Nomads that spawn from nowhere, the unfinished sun, this so called "order" the errors on the information of the planets in the unknown sectors, and so on.

It was a great, and still is, game. Very detailed, great graphics, and good story line that we can't seem to figure out. I just love to be able to fly around with my friends, looking at the awesome space **** and killing police and transports. I just wish there was more to it, and I think that everyone on these forms, well just about, wants to see the same. I hope there is an expansion or something. Maybe I should just go and try Starlancer.

I think part of why everyone keeps second-guessing this stuff is that, at least for me, the game had a slightly unfinished feel. The number of major plot changes before release hints at this, and some other things only serve, in my mind, to confirm it. Many rumors and news items have relatively frequent spelling or grammar mistakes (I know no one is perfect, but a team of quality assurance people should have caught this sort of thing). Things like Primus and Gammu, while I KNOW they're easter eggs, feel wrong. Mostly, I think, because the deinzens of those planets address you in the familiar. Since you KNOW you've never met them before, that serves to tell me that the game is recycling code.

There's a lot of little stuff like that which, all told, makes me feel like the game was rushed a little too much. I'd like to see an expansion, with the hopes that it would sort out some of this while really expanding gameplay beynd its current limits.

Alright I got a new angle on this.
In the original intro the story is told from that general's point of view, and according to my understanding he was with the coalition, so how is he supposed to know exactly how many sleeper ships were launched? he just knows which ones made it coz he came to the sirius system and saw them. So the bartender is not drunk/high he's probably right.
Well, he WOULD be right if all those things really happend, but they didn't and Sol still stands, so I think we should end this discussion here and wait for the expansion pack/sequal.
