Battlestar Galactica Returns

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

this isn't good JD, you're missing crucial plot development! The Eye could only be seen by someone stood outside the cave complex looking at the expanding nova through the formation of the peaks, which Tyrol, Apollo, Anders et al were. Thus proving that there are no coincidences, nor randomness in the Glactica plot, everything happens for a reason and has significance. So you'd better not miss another minute or you'll not see imortant cluee and pointers.

I'm also thinking that now Hera is back with mommy-Sharon and Helo, and that if she is as the Cylons believed the future of the Cylon race, then that means that the future of the Cylon race is to be half-human and to live with humans. Cylons who don't endorse this view are (by the same logic) dispossessing themselves of a future. The humans having been plunged into despair and near-extermination still have hope and a purpose, and (this being the point of everything D'anna-3 did) the Cylons don't; other than wiping out humans, they don't seem to be able to do anything constructive at all. All they did with the Colonies after they captured them was try to rebuild them as they were; New Caprica was a disaster; they can't breed between themselves and the only success they've had is to make themselves less Cylon and more Human; and now they're turning on each other. As a race, they're going nowhere.

I know, I know... thankfully some good soul put episode 11 up on YouTube, so now I'm only one behind. Galactica's missile tubes. Genius.

Ok, they finally re-aired last weeks episode so I was able to fill in all the holes. My only questions at this point are:

1. Why haven't they just killed Baltar already??? I know he's an important character, blah blah blah... but I want to see him gone.

2. What happened to the four basestars over the planet after the sun went supernova? Did they escape beforehand, or were they destroyed? They couldn't have left too early, since Athena and Caprica just barely made it aboard before they jumped.

I just thought of something. In all of the comercials it says someone will realize they are a cylon. Maybe it's not baltar, but athena.

Athena already knows herself to be a cylon, remember.

This week's new episode was rung in with torture, hallucinagenic drugs, and coercive methods, suicide and murder attempts, and Baltar's mental problems going to a whole new level. I thought for a while that Gaeta's first visit was going to make good on their relationship that's been implied in the "Gag reels", but it turns out it was just another murder attempt. This episode was very dark and confusing, and leaves a lot of questions to be answered. Thoughts?

well now, that's a very good question! truth is, we really don't know. The writers have deliberately kept this very mysterious, no answers, no "closure" as they call it. We still don't know if she's "real" although her apparent ability to predict events and assistance rendered to Balthar to manipulate situations seems to show that she's more than a figment of his imagination. She says that she's an angel from God sent to help him, although on occasion she seems to use him for ends he doesn't understand.

You will recall that Blathar had himself scanned and x-rayed by Cottle to find anything inside him, a chip maybe, that might have been implanted; this turned up nothing. I suppose with Cylon DNA-manipulation techniques something could have been implanted in him on the genetic or mlecular level, but one assumes that the "real" Caprica-6 who's also now on Galactica as a prisoner would have had knowledge of this (or perhaps not)

Don't forget that Caprica-6 has her own internal Balthar who pushes her towards humanity in a similar way to Internal-6's influencing Balthar to the Cylon way of thinking. This has not been visyted by the writers since the "Downloaded" episode in Season 2. This season, Balthar's internal-6 has been doing more to protect him from the Cylons, and you'll note that she left him to be tortured by the Colonials last week (assuming that your up-to-speed with the latest plot developments, Benj)

Myself I think she is exactly what she says she is, an angel from God, or rather, a mental or spiritual guardian sent as an agency of whatever higher power is guiding events. She is key to certain events happening in particular ways that lead onto other events and so on, using Balthar as her device in the "real" world as she can't actually manipulate the real, concrete world directly herself. This is poor Balthar's fate as being the Chosen One. Chosen for what remains to be seen - chosen to betray his people and to be the most hated man in existence, it would seem..

well, i've not seen bsg on tv since series 1, thankgod for all the seasons being online somewhere, im up to series 2 episode 6 so far.

Post Sat Feb 03, 2007 6:21 pm

Its interesting... Baltar was claimed to be the 'chosen one' by the Hybrid, yet, 3 was the one who actually got to see the final five... so now I'm no longer sure who is chosen, though it wouldn't make for much of a story to have the chosen one killed, now would it? Why does every sci fi series have to have a chosen one anyways?

religious sub plot to make things a bit more complex, thats my assumption.

ok..wait. the blonde cylon has an imaginary gaius now?

get with the programme, effs! that was way back in Season 2. We've moved on an awful lot since then. Discovery and settlement of New Caprica, Blathar's presidency, Cylon occupation, resistance, death of Ellen Tigh, rescue of the Colonials by Galactica, destruction of Pegasus, Cylon-destroying ancient plagues, Kat's heroic death, Blathar's menage a trois with his Cylon girlfriends, the Eye of Jupiter.. to name but a few highlights.

fuming that it got rescheduled this weekend because of frakkin' Superbowl! Sci-fi always gets shunted for sport.

A good soul puts recent episodes on YouTube sometimes, which is nice if you missed them... I can't understand why they shifted from friday nights to sunday nights... most inconvenient.
