Battlestar Galactica Returns

Well folks, yesterday saw the season premier of Battlestar Galactica for 2006. I found both episodes to be most enjoyable, and yet frustrating at the same time. Apollo is back with an extra twenty pounds or so The depiction of life on New Caprica had more than a few parallels to modern life (and of course Orwell's "1984", and WWII), which was a bit striking to me. Perhaps the parallels were incidental, but I prefer my science fiction to be just that. Certainly though, the writers have set up a story that will take us on an amazing ride for the next season, and will certainly be full of more wonderful cliffhangers...

Anyone have any thoughts about Starbuck, her Cylon live-in, and child? Perhaps I missed something from last season but this seems a bit... erm, odd to me. Still I rather enjoyed the line "*sigh*. You kill me, I download, I come home. Five times now."

Thoughts anyone?

ha! I'm going to be watching it this afternoon, with a nice cup of tea and a slice of Battenburg

akshuly boys, don't get too miffed; remember that we got Season 1 well before our cousins in the former transatlantic colonies did (because Sky gave Sci-Fi Channel a big wedge of wonga) and if you really want to watch something, do you let a little thing thing like "it's not on our telly yet" stop you?

I'll e-mail you later and tell you what happens, if you like!

Watching a bloddy perversion of what was a good original series.

Give me the original!! or give me Trek

The Birdman has a point. As I have said, the plot is so convoluted that it is hardly recognisable as part of "Battlestar Gallactica" anymore, and the whole religious sub-plot, "mystical powers" and "prophecies" simply serve to further detract from the original. Needless to say, I have stopped watching it. I'm not staying up until 12.30pm on a work day to watch that! And yes, I can (and have) taped it, but it is not worth it any longer. Still, I am open to persuasion. Convince me that it is a good show and makes sense, as it it possible that I may have missed something.

Ahh... MacGuyver SG-1 had its merits, but now its always so repetitive with mixing other universes/dimentions, etc. Atlantis isn't half bad, but again, things get confusing when they mix the two shows.

I do have to agree with the plot of BSG getting a bit convoluted. It is still tough for me to see which cylons are real, and who's inside of who's head. I suppose it'll all work out in the end.

personally, i love the camera work, how it focuses in on specific ships, it gives the camera a more organic feel.

Good old SG-1! How can you go wrong with MacGuyver? True, SG is predictable and generic in parts, but then all science-fiction is. Yes, even the new series of BSG! Anyway, SG-1 may have a few problems, however it also has plots that span multiple seasons (or have their roots back in multiple seasons) as well as a great deal of self-satire and humour at the expense of the writers and producers.

I myself, recently purchased and then watched seasons 4-8 after getting "hooked" by borrowing seasons 1-3 from an associate. I'm not sure about that Ben Browder guy though, which is why I haven't picked up Season 9 (plus it is not on sale yet). That being said, it's probably a good thing that they axed the show after 10 seasons, as It would be unfortunate if they started churning out sub-par episodes years after they should have died (e.g. "The Simpsons" ). Anyway, I should go and look into picking up "Stargate: Atlantis". It has been so long since I have seen it that I can't remember much...

EDIT: *Shakes head* It's always about cameras with you, isn't it ff?

@FF- If by camera, you mean "computer", then I agree with you, given that most of the scenes/events in BSG are rendered by computer rather than actually filmed.

what a superb double-bill start to the new season! can't wait for next Sunday!

should we discuss what happened or not? won't it spoil it for those who won't see it for weeks yet?

I nearly had an apopletic fit over what Ellen Tigh did! I really dislike that woman, I think I preferred her before, and I didn't like her much then.

Won't the Cylon's get Caprica-6's memories now, and find out about her internal-Baltar?

oh so many questions!

Post Mon Oct 09, 2006 6:47 pm

Col. Tigh should have gotten rid of her a long time ago. Taw, I take it you're not referring to what she did with the Cylon? That's a plot 'twist', I suppose, but rather... erm.. .disgusting. Her betrayal (again...) was just foolish.

I can't wait to see what happened after that cliffhanger ending. Who lives? Who dies? Who knows?

I'm all for discussing what happened, provided no one else objects.
