my first COMPUTER game was a toosup with B.C. ( were you played the caveman with the wheel and you either jumped over logs or ducked under trees, and king's quest 1, with the batmobile easter egg. I didnt play computer games till I was 16 I did play pong but that was not till I was 14, before that it was board games ( 24hour monopoly sessions) and reading games magazine and makeing up games out of the reviews, I got very close with Car Wars.
e.t, pong, missile command - e.t. is a horrible pointless ugly(even for atari)game, the other two are classics
then we got several commodore computers, and i played text games like Pirate's Cove and Leather Goddesses Of Phobos, and some BASIC programs like snake and gorillas
later we got a full fledged PC - i believe it was a monochrome 286 with a whopping 2 mb of memory and maybe 50 mb of harddrive occupying a FULL BAY - can you believe it was enough!?
finally we got an NES, and played the hell out of duck hunt, mario bros 1&2, castlevania, and olympic sport something or other that used the 'powerpad' acessory
and then we got the Sega genesis - WOOT! gaming had ARRIVED! i played sonic the hedgehog(back when it didn't pretend to be the s&$t because it really was) commandos, road rash, vectorman, comix zone, and robocop vs terminator as well as most of the wrestling and fighting games
so anyways, ET was my first game and is certainly #1 on my hate list - theres a funny documentary on the internet about how some gamers tracked down the dump where all the unsold ET cartridges were buried and recovered thousands of them(why, i ask?)

the Dragon 32, now that brings back memories, I think that was around '82/83 Mace iirc.
Like the rest of the older players here it was pong on a black & white tv back in the early to mid '70's.
Then Space invaders, M.C. & Asteroids on the Atari console in the late '70's.
**shuffles of with a new headache**

...so that's where Typhon came from - you sold your 286 to the Eskwilacks!
My oh my, I'd forgotten all about the ET game. I didn't actually play it, I just heard about it from others. In the mid-80s I was mostly playing BBC Micro turn-based historical games.
BJMac - don't you miss those happy days of an hour or so of Pong, not wanting to turn it off even though your Mum was clattering the tea things and moaning about the bleeping noise and wasn't it time for her soaps to come on?
wait a minute - FD's older than us - what was he doing at this time? c'mon FD, what was your pre-1980 gaming experience?
I did play Pong as well, but pre TV used games era, was arcade games that used a drawn space ship, that grew from the back ground and moved larger on the screen. White lines on a black back ground that you moved a curser over and clicked a button to shoot, then a point level flashed on the screen. I don't remember the name though, it was in the late 70's at OZ records and tapes that had a gaming room and head shop. The local baptist churches at the time got the head shop removed. They sold no drugs, just t-shirts and parfanellia(sp) for *ummm smoking* and such. The game, at the time, was the best thing going, just ahead of pinball machines.

Wow, I didn't know anybody knew about Fury 3... I played that game for hours, until I finally corrupted the cd. (But got it fixed recently!) I also was screwed up because my cousin told me all the cheats... I never actually completed it. I also liked simply going to its directory and watching the movies.
