This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Don't get me wrong, I've no problems with people enjoying old music. It's just when people ignore everything else that I get all pissy.

Post Sun Mar 20, 2005 4:04 pm

ok, im sure different locales have different names for the dance genres around so i'm running the risk of not making any sense.

The music today if flaming FANTASTIC. whats happened is that genres have sprung up overnight once a band makes it big and a dozen copycat "me too" bands emerge. That "sound" becomes a genre which then produces more bands in that vein. so in essence we've got more music styles. The bristol sound's "Trip Hop" is one of the most awesome genres of music i've ever heard and remains a favorite of mine, i love breakbeat music, which is a derivitive of funk and soul, The Chemical Brothers and their kin are taking the genre in very cool and original directions, maybe the golden age of breakbeat has passed, but the music is consistantly good. Soul music today is doing very well, if main R&B would leave it alone it would do even better. Non-Gangster hip hop is exciting at present. Because of the mainstream interest brought about by a lot of rap stars making it big, while their music is utter drivel, it makes a lot of recording studios more open to sign non-mainstream artists. My bigest love though is the Alternate rock scene, bands like Snow Patrol have leapt to success recently and they deserve it all. Bands like Jimmy Eat World have been going from strength to strength and im not even sure what genre they fall into.

It seems that the ones who cling on to the past, to Iron Maiden and whatever else old school gubbins is with them, are the rock fans, the ones who, in all fairness, are VERY narrow minded. Im yet to find a rock fan who really sleeps around the music genres, they really seem to pigeon hole themselves and then moan that the best stuff is behind them. The best stuff is all around us.

Rock is dead?Nah.*Does the devils horns and starts banging head madly*.If rock is dead, why is AC/DC going on tour this year?

Post Sun Mar 20, 2005 5:37 pm

Eeeew ACDC... there old and annoying. And they dont use any talent they may have....yech

Post Sun Mar 20, 2005 6:33 pm

*Curses post above* Sure Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper lip sucked, but this time Brian Johnson (Since 88) is gonna help writing the songs.(So yes new album too)

Post Mon Mar 21, 2005 7:40 am

ehh...new AC/DC's not great. In fact, its horrible. Now, "With a flick of a switch", on the otherhand (sometime in the 80s) was a DAMN good album.

Code--I'm sorry, but look at all the mainstream stuff--pure and total ****. Outside of the metal industry, there are only a few bands with actual talent, and most of them are making horrible music, e.g. Green Day. Talent is virtually nonexistent, if not in musical ability then in songwriting.

If Tupac did come back from the dead, he would undoubtably have a stroke and die all over again from pure shock and horror at modern rap, r&b, hip-hop, etc. It's not just a matter of aesthetic taste, its just that the music is disgustingly talentless and tasteless--and of course is simply another method of selling sex to a teen and young adult audience. blecch

Wilde:

Im going to ignore this transgression. for now. im not happy with your slagging of everything that isnt metal. For I am a producer of stuff that isn't metal. so according to you, my stuff is crap. Even though I use metal sounds in my tracks, it has to suck cos its not metal. Metal is dying. Remember Nu-Metal? now that was a phase. dead as the dodo. I advise all you metal junkies to get out and listen to something OTHER than metal. you're ideas might be questioned, but hey, they're not my ideas.

I now refer all patron of TLR:OT to Ishkur's Guide to EDM Be enlightened by this awsomw repository of music. just dont take Ishkur too seriously.

well, I didn't actually say that if it's not metal it's crap. I don't judge a band or its music by the genre it falls under, I listen to the band first. I simply said that most modern music is crap, other than for some odd reason the metal industry, into which many talented musicians are being herded and finding originality. It's not a matter of aesthetics--I don't really like listening to Phish, for example, but they are undoubtably a great band--it's a matter of the fact that 90% of the musicians are talentless and unoriginal.

about my music taste...well, the playlist for a burned album I made had Sting, Rush, Pink Floyd, and Kaizer's Orchestra songs...most certianly NOT all metal. The music on my computer is full of different genres (versions of rock, electronica, metal, grunge, classical, and even folk). My taste is not specific only to metal.

Oh yes...my sister is correctly telling me that I should credit her with having built up my music taste. Thank you taryn

(and she's forcing me to let her say something, she's too lazy to register herself.,..grr...)

Taryn: Allrighty, I have no bloody idea what this post business is about, ah, nevermind, he just told me. Allright..seeing as I'm his sister, and older, he is most certainly NOT a metal junkie. if anything, I am. But I am not..so..there..to early in the morning for me to be clear about anything. As mentioned before I made the music that he listens to, because I am awesome that way.*bows* and it was hardest for the prick to like metal...;right..leaving for Cananda soon.I'm sure he'll reply again..just to make sure he isnt embarresed about squat.

so you're not saying that everything is crap that isnt metal, just that most music today is crap and what isnt, seems to be metal?

excuse me, i may have missed the part where you stoped being narrow minded. If i have another look it might be in there, right next to the "did i mention i dont like rap music"

Post Tue Mar 22, 2005 10:01 am

I am a rap lover. Particulary emeniem's raps.

Post Tue Mar 22, 2005 10:19 am

tech! emeniem is a no talent loser who tries to be something he is not!

Im not a metal junkie (See Mike oldfield, kaizers orchestra, rolling stones, scatman john)

But so much modern music is crap. I mean greenday, LP, the entire pop industry, ALL modern rap without exception (my brother went through a rap faze so i heard mroe then enough)

There are nuggets of goodness but so much horriblness

Post Tue Mar 22, 2005 10:36 am

wait a sec, wait a sec. How mainstream is Metal? How mainstream is the rap you're deploring? How mainstream is pop? Pop by freaking definition is POPULAR music, so we're going to say VERY.

Metal isnt mainstream, Rap sure as spit IS mainstream. You see why you might think one is better than the other?? How mainstream is Green Day? How mainstream is Mike Oldfield.

Now do you ACTIVELY go searching in the non-mainstream areas of other genres, or are you solely non-mainstream rock fans and as such, only hear mainstream from OTHER genres and therefore deplore ALL music because its "all rubbish". Occasionally you'll hear something new because someone will bring it to you or you'll discover it by accident, but lets be honest here. You're not exactly trying are you?

Post Tue Mar 22, 2005 10:44 am

I cant go anywere without nams but every time someone has mentioned a band i have downloaded there music, thank god for limewire, i dont judge something without seeing it, err hearing it in this case.

If someone mentioned a new rap artist i wouldnt be thinking "Well he could be good" but i would still listen and see. And actualy i have liked main stream, i do hate to admit but i do like incubus a bit.

I will admit alot of my music has been shown to me by my brother and people at school (Reminding me wilde, who introduced you to iced earth along with your sister who introduced you to Dimmu Borgir and into eterntiy HEM HEM )

But i always try and expand my musical taste's, i have a little game with myself where i see how many good songs can i fill my itunes with.

Post Tue Mar 22, 2005 2:43 pm

i like incubus, i think theyre ok. My point being though, that while it is easy enough to say all music bar metal is bad, that really is a bit presumptuous, and in fact, im not even saying it to you, although it does seem that we could pretty much replace the words DSQ and interchange it with Wilde at any point and the conversation would go on as normal, i think you are a lot more open in your music tastes. You've not made halfway NEAR the gross generalisations that Wilde has and have admitted you actively seek out new music before condemming the lot. The thing is that regardless of genre, i bet you could find one or two music artists that were freaking fantastic. Rap music, for example, doesnt really exist any more, its gangster hip-hop that is being released that gets labeled as "rap", rapping is just a means to convey music. Its like if someone said that guitar music was all crap these days, you're crossing so many lines its just not even smart arguing any more.

In truth, the state of music today is in really good shape, more genres means more diversity, it means that every single nuance and difference in taste is catered for. What if you didnt like rock? 20 years ago your music tastes would be kinda limited and you may not really apreciate ANY of the current music that was out there. just because this new RnB thats about is big at the moment, doesnt mean that the state of music worldwide is just awful, saying that 90% or some other bogus, top of your head estimate of the music industry is rubbish is utterly outrageous. Maybe instead 90% of what you've heard is tripe.

Has it ever gotten to the point where there's no artists currently making music that you apreciate at all? has it ever gotten to the point where you havent heard a good new track in over a year? has it ever gotten to the point where you havent discovered a new band for the first time that WASNT crap?
