have you ever got to the point where you cleared your eyes out a little and read what people are ACTUALLY TYPING? No one has said that all modern music is crap. That would most certainly be a generalization. I am not narrow minded about music--like DS, I listen to a band's songs before saying anything about it. Before purging my limewire of horrible music, I did download 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Usher, and eminem songs, simply to test out if they were as horrible as my first impression of them all depicted them as. They were worse.

I am a rap lover. Particulary emeniem's raps.

No offence, but Eminem is a sick person. Horribly sexist and homophobic. His lyrics are disgusting.

You've not made halfway NEAR the gross generalisations that Wilde has and have admitted you actively seek out new music before condemming the lot.

Thanks Arc.

I try not to generalize. Furthermore--I haven't seen (err,...rather, heard) any reason why what I said is a generalisation.

And please explain yourself, what is so different between the opinions of DS and myself that you make a vicious snipe at me?

(And yes, much thanks to DSQrn for also building up my music tastes )

Wilde, have you ever wondered that Eminem is basically just deliberately pushing the buttons of certain people. like you.

DSQrn, Eminem is just being like Elvis. and in Elvis' day, swinging of da hips was considered 'immoral and offensive'. Hmm... where have I heard that before?

ALL modern rap without exception

I really should strike you down for that. a generalisation, if you had said 'all gangsta rap' i would agree. but ALL rap? hmm... I call your attention to the Beastie Boys. (License To Ill, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty in particular) there is rap that rocks. and guess what? they're trying to be something they're not! They're white guys rapping! OH MY FREAKIN' GOD! They're bending your tiny view of what accepted! WHITE GUYS RAPPING! And they've been doing it since the 80's.

it's where a bunch or rapping peopel get together and rap their own songs at the same time so it sounds really bad actually, i don't know...i just had to say taht though

rap went downhill when it became artist focused instead of music focused, and the MC became more important.

Love Shark, Elvis was breaking the purity code by swinging his hips. Its not immoral, but according to the societal code of that time, it was uncouth and dirty. Eminem would be pushing the purity code if, say, he tore up a picture of an important political figure on public television. He's not breaking the purity code with his lyrics, he's breaking the moral code--he talks about women, gays, and lesbians as if they are **** and lower than him (a straight white upper class American), degrades and insults them in nearly all of his songs...

If he's pushing the boundaries of people like me, he's going the wrong way about it. All he's doing is writing songs that degrade and insult without grace or subtlety. That's not music.

My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge / That'll stab you in the head whether you're a fag or lez Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest

My life's like kinda what my wife's like/****ed up after I beat her ****ing *** every night, Ike

**** that, take drugs, rape sluts

Case in points.

isnt metal equally as "evil" in some people's eyes? you know, the whole "in league with the DEVIL" thing that the genres got going for it? one man's soundrack is another man's insult.

I suppose one could find Dimmu, say, or the Haunted equally offensive. "Tormentor of Christian souls", etc. But not all metal is satanic or death metal. Iron Maiden, for example, has not a trace of that kind of lyrics.

Aces High, Iron Maiden

Angel's Holocaust, Iced Earth

Ocean Soul, Nightwish

Wait and Bleed, Slipknot

The lyrics are not on the same level as Eminem's. You can't compare the two.

Ok i dont care if he pretends to be a gangster (emineme or however you spell his stupid name), it does annoy me what i dont like is this.

His wife breaks up with him so he publicly humilates her by writting hatful songs calling her offensive and sexist terms.

as for the beastie boys i dont mind white gusy rapping goy ahead, but please dont pretend your black. Emienme does things that being white he just cant, im not being racist but white people shouldnt say the certian word that begins with n.

Now i have found certian rap artists tolerable, and sometimes enjoyable. (of course the 80's stuff i loved) Tup'ac wasnt bad (my bro still thinks he isnt dead, sheesh)

I can understand how Dimmu might offend christians i can see that. Here is a bad argument for it and it isnt mine i just feeling like convaying it. "Well considering the cult of satan is a religoin in a sense, it is the anti-christanity then Dimmu is the equivalint of church gospels" i dont believe that at all, just putting that out there.

But Eneime promotes a hate that furthers the hate and racism between black people and white people, i mean white racists just love this stuff to hit the black community with.
Also Eneime is mind bogglingly sexist and is trying to undo what women spent the last oh 60 years on. And that sort of slander in the public eye isnt good. I know 9 year olds listening to that stuff and all i can see comming from it is bad bad stuff.

for god sake LISTEN to yourselves

I suppose one could find Dimmu, say, or the Haunted equally offensive. "Tormentor of Christian souls", etc. But not all metal is satanic or death metal. Iron Maiden, for example, has not a trace of that kind of lyrics.
But yet you're throwing all rap music in together. You're remaining objective about metal music but just grouping all music that has rapping in it together under one banner, and that is a mainstream "eminem" led banner.

I actually said most rap music was sexist--and it is. It doesn't mean that all rap music is sexist, rascist, or homophobic, but the great majority is.
