Wow, really strange to look back and see what i was into just only a year ago.
I must admit, NIN's The Great Below still screws with my head, but most of the stuff i listened to then is really sorta... outdated. They're still great tracks, but its just strange to think that other songs on that list weren't higher up.
But time has passed, and bands have changed, evolved (or devolved), Concerts and shows have been played, albums released.
The question facing today's musicians is no longer "Whats something so innovative that no one else has heard, because it will just end up being not music. random noise, which snobby critics will call art.
Bands now have the trouble of standing out in a culture which hates innovation or deviation from the norm, but 10-20 years down the track will herald them as 'influential'.
I don't care if my favourite bands dont release new stuff, i just care if they rock the god damn house. If a band has an entertaining show, with decent music, then i'll be happy. Either that or be too screwed up to actually be liked in any way (see Richard D. James, AKA: Polygon Window, AFX, Aphex Twin. god damn that music screws with my head. David Firth isnt helping either)
But yeah, a small list of artists i'm into now:
Queens of the Stone Age - I cant describe why, But Queens have got something about them, something that seems to never get tired. I could listen to it all the time.
Aphex Twin - If you can listen to this and not either go "WTF is this!?" or "This is ****ed up. But in a good way" you need help. David Firth used his song Milkman in one of his animations: *WARNING: This is not for children, the elderly or anyone doing shrooms or acid. It is really 'upside your head' No complaints.*
Milkman By David Firth
(Firth also does Salad Fingers)
Save The Robot - Psychedelic Trance which will make your head explode with awesomeness.
RATM - I'm still into these awesome anti authoritarian rockers, even if they don't exsist anymore.
