Not Such Good News for Pirated Copies of XP

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

20, eh? Hmm, but there are hundreds of codes out there. Strange strategy from MS .

War - Try a swapmeet. You can get boxed sets for $40 AUD. Well, either that or download it .

There ilso more than just hole plugs in this SP.

Also included are features that make it easier for users to manage their anti-virus software and firewall. It also forces users to make explicit choices about how secure they want their PC to be.

Other features include a blocker for adverts that pop-up when people browse the web and background utilities that warn when spyware is trying to install itself on their machine

Which I look forward to.

Well between Mozilla/Firefox and ZA, I haven't had an unrequested pop-up in years .

Juno blocks a lot of pop-ups, but time to time, a page will be opened that will let a pop-up through, and sometimes, operamail, and others, require opening in new pages, so I can't block everything.

same here, Opera/PUK/ZA, great mix, get virtually no pop-ups at all, and also very few banner ads. In proof of this, my Mrs uses just IE with no PUK (but ZA still in the bground) and she gets q a few. but then thats IE for you, p.o.s.

Bloody IE! Damn thing's a menace.

Post Sun Jun 06, 2004 3:01 pm

Esq, I would stop using IE except for one major problem. Juno requires it to function. If not for that, I would switch. For info purposes, I did set opera as my default onetime and restarted my computer. Started Juno and it wouldn't run till I reset IE as my defult.

edit - After my last restore, KOTOR was at fault, I can not use IE's address bar for searches anymore. Use to be able to. any help?

If you open IE and leave it as a blank window, you should still be able to use another browser. It works for some things such as MSN Messenger, which requires IE to be open when the program is in use. As for searching from the address bar, double-check the option in the IE configuration settings, and make sure that it is set correctly.

Was not able to find a setting for searches. I have never, at least that I know of, chnged this. I did have a problem as well with Media player, but just got through downloading MP9 again and reinstalling it. Would not play movies, clips or music. All after the restore. A lot of fun.

Sounds like you need a nice fresh Windows installation Final. Regarding IE, go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced, and scroll down to the "Search" section. There should be some options there for you to play with .

The "Just go to the most likely site" option was checked, moved to a differnt one, but no success.

I know I need a clean, just hate the thought of it. Takes me longer now with having to get MP9 and other things downloaded, and getting the win updates again. I wish they would just let you download them. With SP2 due out, I hope all are in it, as I will pay to get it on Disk.

You should reinstall Windows and then keep an image of your setup somewhere. It takes me less than 10 minutes to reimage XP when I need to.

A question on imiging. Is that similar to a backup? And if so/not, what about the problem files that I would want to do away with? I have plenty of space on the second drive.

Windows "backups", backup slected files, and can even backup stuff like the registry. Imaging on the other hand, takes a complete copy of your partition, including all files and folders, etc. The difference is that if you delete your "Windows" dir by mistake, "Backup" will not restore it, but an image will.

Post Sun Jun 06, 2004 4:31 pm

Ok, short of a special program, can I do it with XP? I thought I had seen something of an imaging program, just in passing in a store. What about problem files, how would I get rid of that? And, wouldn't taking and reseting an imiage put the errors back? Just trying to learn, as the backups are a pain anyway.
